Labour Supporters - Do you think it would help if KS was replaced?

I am a life long labour voter. Like many I am incredibly disappointed, in fact I’m devastated by the direction of the current government.

Something needs to change in a pretty radical way or we are opening the door to Deform.

I’m torn between thinking the last thing we need is another revolving door at no 10 but I have lost any confidence that KS is able to lead us out of the mess the tories left us in.

Would it be a good thing to change leaders if this was possible and if so who should it be?

I will vote Reform - I am educated and never thought I would say this but the establishment needs a kick in the arse. Of course Reform won’t last but it will kick existing parties in shape. Sorry but nothing can stop them now. I am desperately hoping for a new general election next year

I don’t understand how someone educated could vote for Reform. What are their actual policies? What is Farage’s track record? That kick in the arse could devastate the country further.

As I am currently non-aligned with any political party, and in view of the shocking attack on the Manchester synagogue today, on Yom Kippur FFS, my only point is that the sooner we take race and religion out of politics the better. The polarisation is driving extremist factional hatreds. Which runs counter to every gradual step towards tolerance that was painfully achieved during the 20th century.

I agree. Labour need to dial down the rhetoric and start governing for everyone not just for certain factions. Then hopefully things will calm down. But I don't think they can now that so much of their party is more interested in what is going on in Gaza than home. Split loyalties. It's very scary.

I know plenty of intelligent and educated people who are voting Reform. Not me. They are not my bag but to dismiss everyone who votes for them as uneducated is lazy politics.

Debate the issues rather than throw insults.

I would like a practical centrist party with answers to our economic woes. If they could understand SMEs all the better. Still waiting!!

Well the conference and Starmer's speech seems to have no impact on voters.
Reform have taken 3 out of 4 bi-elections this week. They achieved nearly 50% of the vote in Wigan. They lost 1 to Labour but only by 3%.

Looks like an impact probably not the one he and those saying ‘good speech’ were after.

Yes well in the echo chamber of conference I'm sure it felt good however back in the real world.....

Have you watched her interviews? I’m thinking not if you’re questioning this. Her bias is blatant and the way she fawns over NF is sickening.

Buzyizzy217 · 03/10/2025 08:41

We are 15 months into a new government. I don’t remember the media being critical of the last rabble at this time, or any time actually. There is a mahoosive list of their achievements on the net, but because they aren’t making a song and dance about every single tiny task, some people assume they aren’t doing anything. The media is hell bent on bringing them down and because the average Brit isn’t that bright, look where the EU referendum got us, they are hoodwinking the gullible into believing more lies.

What "mahoosive list"? Fairy tale bedtime stories?

And on here loads of good speech posts. Surely it’s meant to get more support to be considered that.

They are keeping the “mahoosive list” very quiet.

The media wasn't as critical of the "last rabble" as this rabble is so much worse.

I'm actually thinking rather wistfully of the previous government and I never thought I'd be saying that!

There's no point arguing with ideologues. If you cannot see things clearly we can leave it there.

By that logic there is point discussing much political on these board. Of course people see things differently, through their own lens of experience, that doesn't mean they don't see things clearly.

Is this a joke? The ‘mahoosive’ list is of Labour’s hypocrisy, u-turns, resignations and sackings, in-fighting and, most of all, economic mismanagement.

The argument was just going round in circles, ,neither of us was going to see each others POV, I felt the PP was being brutal so it was pointless trying to persuade and and it was a way out of the tedium. I also feel that preservation of life is important and if you can't see that you can't see the world clearly.

No need to police my reply to her though.

The media was highly critical of the last government even early on. They still bring up the lib-dems u turn on tuition fees - they were hounded for it. Austerity was heavily criticised. Is it just possible to you didn't see it as being critical because you agreed with the criticism. But there was more stability at the start despite the conservatives not having a majority, the first home secretary had 6 years in post, the first chancellor was in post for 6 years and the first foreign secretary was in post for 4 years. If it wasn't for the madness of the decision to allow a Brexit referendum Cameroon might still be in power now. Remember they actually increased their vote share after the first term.

I'm not policing but surely none of us actually expect people with the other view to change it because of a post on mumsnet.

No of course not. But it just wasn't an enjoyable argument when it's about someone potentially being harmed. Farage is obviously a high risk target.

After partygate it was knives out anyway. Sunak, his wife, the media dined out on partygate for what, a year. Managed to get a PM out. Labour moan about the media but it’s an excuse really.

To be honest I supported the Tories at the time. I was pretty outraged by Party Gate. I imagine many Tories felt uncomfortable having to defend it, so we know a little about how the Labour MPs feel having to come out justify their parties shift on Family Reunification, and the "interpretation" of the ECHR. The generally feeling of WTF.

Still nothing on the asylum change from anyone? Looks like they want a headline and no scrutiny. Labour MPs have no standing if they just let it through.

On partygate, I thought it was manufactured by Cummings, but I someone posted he’s helping again which will probably be effective, not for Labour obviously.

I still not heard anything from Labour MPs. I think their strategy is to ignore it and hope that they had dreamt Keir announcement after a late night of conference drinking. They seem on safer ground today of being back to the party of "were not anti semetic, but"

Partygate was Sue Gray who as we found out, wasn't exactly a neutral judge.

There's no way Boris went to parties. I just can't see it. Not because he wouldn't want to, just because he had just come out of intensive care where he nearly died and he had a new born baby. And he wasn't 21 and he wasnt exactly fit!! How people thought he'd be PM in a pandemic on top of that and still have time for parties is beyond me.
