Labour Supporters - Do you think it would help if KS was replaced?

I am a life long labour voter. Like many I am incredibly disappointed, in fact I’m devastated by the direction of the current government.

Something needs to change in a pretty radical way or we are opening the door to Deform.

I’m torn between thinking the last thing we need is another revolving door at no 10 but I have lost any confidence that KS is able to lead us out of the mess the tories left us in.

Would it be a good thing to change leaders if this was possible and if so who should it be?

Tbf these days loads of young people are more keen on Reform and that will probably increase. Labour aren't exactly acting in the interests of young people. Shafting their employment prospects and piling on debt for many generations to come sadly.

It seems to be predominantly young men being drawn to Reform…quite a lot to unpack there.

I expect quite a few young women will want to be employed too and aren't obsessed with Gaza, so might not vote Labour. Even young people vote in their own interests sometimes.

I know plenty of intelligent and educated people who are voting Reform. Not me. They are not my bag but to dismiss everyone who votes for them as uneducated is lazy politics.

Debate the issues rather than throw insults.

I would like a practical centrist party with answers to our economic woes. If they could understand SMEs all the better. Still waiting!!

It wasn’t an insult; it was a genuine question because I don’t understand how someone who is educated could fall for Nigel Farage’s lies again, after Brexit.

I asked what policies attracted the poster to Reform. What am I missing? There must be a reason.

Lack of options. Both Tories & Labour have been given turns and look at the absolute shit state they’ve created. Democracy is what we have and there are limited options within that system. Pure desperation is driving the Reform vote.

I have posted once to call out a poster who was quoting what I was writing on the LIW thread. That breaches MN rules. Apart from that no I haven't because I believe in safe spaces.

A ‘safe space’ to do what exactly?

Who might do the job?

Obvious candidate is Wes Streeting who is itching for it.

I'd prefer Andy Burnham but he's not an MP.

I used to think that Wes Streeting would be a good candidate but he now feels too pro Angela Rayner for my taste

Wallaw1 · 04/10/2025 16:40

I haven't read the entire thread, so apologies if I'm repeating something that's already been said, but they need to stop pandering to Reform and tell the truth - finding a way back into Europe would alleviate a whole lot of problems.

They're making the same mistake as the Democrats in the US, trying to govern by polling rather than just taking a stand on the issues they believe in, whether they seem popular or not, and sticking with it.

twistyizzy · 04/10/2025 18:23

For both sides to discuss politics without constant attacks from the other side.
It works for both sides.
Neither is going to change their pov

Iamfree · 05/10/2025 07:00

I can’t see who mentioned me (I said I would vote Reform). I also said I’m going to leave the UK for a lovely place where I’ll pay very little tax. 5 years to go, counting the days now. Super civilised, mountains and beautiful beaches, obviously in Europe (I don’t subscribe to the Middle East Way way of life). You please keep paying taxes to support the lazy Brits, I’ll keep my considerable money to myself sorry sorry. Other countries are desperately trying to attract the wealthy Brits and are succeeding

I don't know whether he's said something that implies he favours her rehabilitation but politically they're on opposite sides of the broad church.

It was at the Labour Party conference when referencing a new pay deal for care workers- “she understands their needs as she was one - and we want her back. We need her back”.
I doubt she has very much in common with care workers these days.

There was a referendum a.few years ago on the EU?

Either you believe in democracy or you don't.

Belief in democracy doesn’t mean because something has been voted for once it’s set in stone for ever. We wouldn’t bother with general elections if that was the case. I think if another referendum were to be held now the result would be very different - and more decisive. That’s democracy.

And why would Rayner have little in common with care workers now @Eviebeans? She’s still the same person with the same experiences. I want her back too, she’s a huge loss.

That doesn't stop them from telling the truth, which is that it's playing a large part in the position in which we find ourselves now and we'd be much better off if we found a way back in.

They don't need to pretend the elephant's not in the room.

All those arguments were made at the time.by Remain. They were bad arguments then and they are.bad arguments now. If you have a referendum you have to stick with the choice made. Unless you are Ireland obviously.

The UK needs a party that will actually take advantage of Brexit. Perhaps in 2029 we will have such a party.

She sold son's trust a share of a house that was grossly over.valued in order to raise enough money for a deposit on her new house; a breach of trust.

She fiddled the council tax.by claiming her houses were each her primary residence.

Just.because she's a laugh doesn't make.her fit for high office. I thought we were supposed to be against politicians who.were on the make, or is it OK if its Labour?

And now that we're living with the results of some people's foolishness, perhaps it's time to have an honest conversation about it. Or maybe better to keep re-rolling the same dishonesty and blame all the problems on immigrants? Sure. That will make it all go away.

You run an electoral campaign on figuring out how to get us back in, the people vote for it. An electoral result is as binding than a referendum, if not more so. Unfortunately, I doubt Europe will just let us waltz back in, but there's probably a halfway measure that's better than nothing.

Starmer should be honest about it.

Do you? I voted to be part of Europe in 1975, we didn’t stick with that choice, did we?

The only time politicians have actually listened to the electorate.and done what they promised is, ironically, after the.Brexit referendum.

Allegedly. She’s not fit for high office because she’s a laugh, she’s the Labour politician the opposition fears most which tells me everything I need to know. They might get my vote back if there were more politicians like Rayner at the top of the party.

Well, the standards of probity in the left are clearly a lot lower than on the right.

OK. Well if we are going by your rules, lets compromise and have the next referendum in 2056.
