The Middle East has seen its fair share of conflict, but it’s frankly racist to suggest that “they are always fighting each other” and to understate the massive impact of colonialisation and western interference which has led to the current instability in the region

Hardly, when it happens to be true. Religion, oil, land you name it. Man and it is men will always find something to fight over. Hold on, is that sexist to say that? Not bothered one way or the other tbh.
Just happens that there is a lot of wealth tied up in the middle east. Everyone wants their share of the pie in some shape or form.

Yes. once. But how many more of these threads are there going to be?

If you’re reading all the scaremongering news, then presumably you’re reading the “let’s all panic about ww3” threads where someone will have compassionately explained. At which point, if you choose to not listen and to continue to panic then you need to be told to get a grip.

If my children came home with that kind of panic about ww3 they would be banned from the internet and I would ban all screens because I refuse to have them exposed to that kind of crap if they can’t deal with it.

Scroll on by if you've nothing worthwhile to add? 🤔

The Cold War, the Falklands, Ukraine, various invasions, coups etc all over the world. There is always a conflict somewhere. I don’t remember at any point feeling like the next world war would break out.

Me neither tbh, though I do remember a lot of my friends getting anxious regarding Kuwait, in the early 1990s.

US, UK, Russia etc involvement doesn't help. 🤔

There are a lot of a' I am so anxious' threads these days.

Because so many people are. It is a disease.

GameOfJones · 25/06/2025 16:29

If a nuclear apocalypse is coming then I wouldn't want to live through it. Haven't you watched Fallout? 😉

Seriously OP, if your thread is serious and you really are anxious can I suggest seeking some professional help and stepping away from the news?

I stopped watching the news during Covid and just scan the headlines once a day or catch them on the radio when I'm driving. I consume the minimum possible to know vaguely what is going on without sinking into anxiety. It's been the best thing I've ever done for my mental health.

I am not so sure because there have been a rash of threads by posters who post once and then never come back. Like the woman anxious about going to..... Brussels!

So, you come onto threads that don't interest you, and have nothing to offer the OP? Ok then. 🫣
Alternatively, report it if you feel the need.

World wars are never declared world wars until afterwards. There won't be some big announcement saying WW3 is here tadah! Which is a shame because if we knew I would take up smoking again. That said I have cancelled a trip to London it was only for a bit of sightseeing but im not taking the risk. I'll leave it till things calm down a bit

What do you think was going to happen, if you had gone to London??

mummymeister · 25/06/2025 16:32

I am an old person. I have been here many many times before and probably will be here again in the future. WW3 is not coming. but please dont be deluded enough to think that there has been peace at any point in the past 100 years because there hasnt. just because we in the uk arent actively at war with another country doesnt mean that all over the world at any given minute someone isnt bombing the shit out of someone else.

greencartbluecart · 25/06/2025 16:33

If you think this daftness shoukd be stopped report to MN and give your reasoning

ThatCyanCat · 25/06/2025 16:34

Iran doesn't have nukes, and if Israel was ever going to use its own, it would have done so by now. If October 7 didn't prompt it, nothing will.

I do wonder how different the world would be if we didn't depend so much on oil and instead made full use of wind and solar power.

Runlikesomeoneleftgateopen · 25/06/2025 16:35

Turn off the news, best cure for anxiety.
Get outside and walk in fresh air, grow some flowers for the bees, get a pet.

I think that a lot of people are unfortunately suffering from anxiety, and being on SM is doing them no good whatsoever. I think that years ago, people just did not speak about it, and suffered in silence, or worse. But yes, no doubt some of the threads on here are started by people, trolls, bot, AI, who knows nowadays!

KurtShirty · 25/06/2025 16:36

It’s not just hyperbole

thebulletin.org/doomsday-clock/

2025 Doomsday Clock Announcement
January 28, 2025
In setting the Clock one second closer to midnight, the Science and Security Board sends a stark signal: Because the world is already perilously close to the precipice, a move of even a single second should be taken as an indication of extreme danger and an unmistakable warning that every second of delay in reversing course increases the probability of global disaster.

JaneJeffer · 25/06/2025 16:38

If you’re doing that can you get me a few things please? I’ll pay you back when Armageddon is over.

ThisCantBeRightCanIt · 25/06/2025 16:41

If you genuinly think war is coming (doubt it is but perhaps some low level temp distruption in some way or another) rather than wasting money you should be focusing on being financially secure to get you through the hard times ahead!?

reinforcementz · 25/06/2025 16:44

Looking at it globally I think future historians will see the current period as we're already in WW3. This is horrible and, compounded by the climate crisis, will massively affect lots of people in the middle east and global south. The biggest impact it will have on European civilans is likely to be financial. Oil will go mental, pension pots will be volatile, etc. Having loads of credit card debt will not help you. Having small outgoings and diversified income streams probably will.

Never2many · 25/06/2025 16:47

If people don’t like what other people are posting on the thread then they’re also welcome to scroll on by.

Don’t like it when people call it out as fake? Scroll by.

But only an idiot would believe that this is anything but fake. This isn’t a thread to discuss anxiety over the potential for ww3, this is a frivolous thread to discuss whether to max out the credit cards because sky news said that WW3 is coming, which has descended into a load of there-there bollocks. There is nothing genuine about that.

And yes, I have reported.

Roselilly36 · 25/06/2025 16:52

That would be a daft thing to do, that will have repercussions for years. Don’t let the press reporting wind you up, it’s just not worth it.

VaddaABeetch · 25/06/2025 16:53

WW3 has been coming for all my 56 years.
