so It’s very clear WW3 is coming and tbh I’m a anxious wreck! Part of me wonders do I just max out my credit cards etc and just get stuff and enjoy everythIng with my kids whilst we can before the inevitable happens?

OP posts:
Feelingleftoutagain · 25/06/2025 17:21

It's all just scaremongering, all the goverment parties do this. Honestly as an older person I've heard all this before.

Op was worried about WW3 being imminent last September when.. fuck knows what was going on that day. Some people can’t process news and information without spiralling.

Yes definitely max out your credit cards - very good idea.

Also, I think you may be confusing a war with an apocalypse. Might be good to read up on the differences between the two.

I think she’s thinking nuclear.

ETA or works for a credit card provider …

ParmaVioletTea · 25/06/2025 17:23

People are living through current wars. They are keeping on working, going to school.

If you've got a couple of new credit cards burning a hole in your pocket maybe you're looking for an excuse to push the fuck it button!

Needsleepneedcoffee · 25/06/2025 17:25

As someone who has a few anxiety disorders myself, I'm asking with kindness, but are you OK OP?
These are uncertain times, but I don't think that this is even worth worrying about.
It's not likely to affect the general population here in the UK, but the repercussions of maxing out all of your credit cards may well be something that affects you for a few years!

If you're struggling, please can you try to arrange some therapy to talk through what's beneath these fears?

Dita73 · 25/06/2025 17:26

Yeah sure go for it,if you’re completely stupid

Her comments are as worthwhile as yours.

Or are we just supposed to agree with the op?

Again, you're entitled to your view.

World wars are never declared world wars until afterwards. There won't be some big announcement saying WW3 is here tadah! Which is a shame because if we knew I would take up smoking again. That said I have cancelled a trip to London it was only for a bit of sightseeing but im not taking the risk. I'll leave it till things calm down a bit

This is a good way to look on it .
I think sometimes we can all go down a rabbit hole and if op is already an anxious person you can see why it’s escalated for her.

Your approach is the way i see it . Be cautious and delay things for now .
And get some necessities and cash in .

Jerrypicker · 25/06/2025 17:27

Don’t forget to build an underground bunker and stock it with pickles, conserves and essentials. Gas mask too!

minnienono · 25/06/2025 17:28

its as clear as mud. Anyone who lived through the Cuban missile crisis will tell you that nothing is ever a sure thing. We have multiple people in the military and they aren’t even being readied - if something was that clear they would be cancelling leave and optional training

LondonJax · 25/06/2025 17:29

I agree with @Thepeopleversuswork - I'm 60 years old. WWIII has been 'on it's way' for years.

If it finally arrives (and I agree with others who say we're already in it to some extent), I doubt my uncles who fought in WWII and my grandfathers who fought in WWI will recognise it. It'll be cyber attacks, terrorist attacks and social media trolls inciting attacks on particular sets of people or fuelling protests to change government/regimes. Who wants to risk their own safety, their own people, their own 'rule' in their country by sending in troops when they could just switch off pipelines or cause financial havoc, block access to oil or shipping lanes.

The thing we all need to do is to be alert to threats rather than worrying about 'the big one'.

Plantladylover · 25/06/2025 17:29

Don't be bloody daft :) ME have been at war on and off for centuries.

though if you genuinely think that then best NOT spend if war is coming. My mum was born in 1935 so remembers WW2, the poverty, the rations. Save your money, stockpile food, get out and buy that loo roll. (I jest of course)

WW3 will be primarily digital anyway.

Shetlands · 25/06/2025 17:30

I was born just 8 years after WW2 so its shadow was ever present amongst the adults in my life, the older ones having lived through WW1 too. All my life there has been a threat of WW3, sometimes to the extent of the government sending us all leaflets on how to protect ourselves by putting mattresses against the windows ffs!

You just have to "keep calm and carry on" or you'll go potty with anxiety. I was working in London all through the IRA bomb threats, often having to get off tubes because an unattended package had been found. We just carried on with our day.

Please try and put it out of your mind and just focus on living your best life. Anxiety is toxic and can cause serious damage to you mental and physical health. Don't let it govern you and poison the life you should be living. If it's getting a grip on you then please go to your GP for some help.

Are people really getting in necessities? I’m not criticising just genuinely wondering.

I can see how we’ve had some escalating news but honestly wasn’t thinking “ horde loo roll.”

BMW6 · 25/06/2025 17:31

Lol yeah go on OP, in 6 months you'll be hoping for WW3.....😂

Shhhhitsmagic · 25/06/2025 17:31

No, don't do that. Get yourself a glass of wine and relax!

Uricon2 · 25/06/2025 17:36

A word of warning. During Gulf 1 I delayed handing in (well, actually writing) a 6000 word assessed essay that counted towards my degree because I was watching coverage and, y'know, end of the world as we know it. Possibly.

I got a "friendly" reminder and remembered that the Professor was a great deal scarier than any feasible threat.

BringOle · 25/06/2025 17:37

antsyaardvark · 25/06/2025 15:22

What if it DOES happen soon? Would having some money not be immensely useful to, you know, eat, seek shelter and help if needed and possibly flee?! Why does OP want to her family to be hobos cast out on the streets by the time the war arrives lol

by that logic I’d invest in some gold 😁

BringOle · 25/06/2025 17:37

or livestock so you can barter

Futurehappiness · 25/06/2025 17:40

I am not really into 'stream of consciousness' posts where we are all expected to emphasise with exactly what the OP is feeling right here and right now. I am not sure what we are supposed to do about it other than be made to feel anxious along with her. But I have my DC peace of mind to think about as well as my own.

I agree that what the OP needs is a good glass of wine. And channel WW2: 'Keep calm and carry on'.

Oh and London is fine to visit, one of the safer big cities in the world.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 25/06/2025 17:44

Just stop listening to the news and if you do be more criticaL about it. If you listened to starmer yesterday saying we need to prepare for war he also included in that cyber attacks and energy security all things we have seen happen in the last few years so not nukes. He also used is as a way of defending his welfare cuts. If you actually notice there is a cycle within the media of these war stories, remember they choose what and when to report to stir people
up or hide other stuff that’s going. I mean great deflection over the child sex abuse that he knew about.

SunnyViper · 25/06/2025 17:45

Starrynight999 · 25/06/2025 16:00

It’s just so hard to Ignore what looks like is coming.in my head WW3 is going to be a nuclear apocalypse of course it is.. with big players like Russia, china and US we will get
involved because we are part of nato..

Fucking clueless

I'm generally of your mindset. I can clock a pot-stirrer at twenty paces, and we've had a rash of them lately.

That said, there are times when even I have to concede: the world is full of ninnies. Chock full of them. Blithering about all sorts 😂

Some people love nothing more than a panic.

smallglassbottle · 25/06/2025 17:45

Nah, it's fine, just some extra pasta and toilet rolls in and job's a goodun' 😂
