Is it clear WW3 is coming, do I just spend?

so It’s very clear WW3 is coming and tbh I’m a anxious wreck! Part of me wonders do I just max out my credit cards etc and just get stuff and enjoy everythIng with my kids whilst we can before the inevitable happens?

Yes definitely max out your credit cards - very good idea.

Also, I think you may be confusing a war with an apocalypse. Might be good to read up on the differences between the two.

NortieTortie · 25/06/2025 16:00

Unfortunately, you still have to work, purchase necessities and pay off debts during a war.

Morgenrot25 · 25/06/2025 16:00

Every time the US politicians stick their beak in somewhere unwanted people think WW3 is starting. Nobody knows the future but it's also not a reason to max out credit cards. It is a reason to live and enjoy life as much as we can though.

Starrynight999 · 25/06/2025 16:00

It’s just so hard to Ignore what looks like is coming.in my head WW3 is going to be a nuclear apocalypse of course it is.. with big players like Russia, china and US we will get
involved because we are part of nato..

Calm down! Things really aren’t that bad, there are always conflicts going on.

Holluschickie · 25/06/2025 16:03

Ok, if you say so. It's true that after a nuclear apocalypse you won't need a credit card because we will all be ashes. Go buy that Porsche!

bestcatlife · 25/06/2025 16:03

The last thing I'd be doing in the event of a world war is getting into debt. These countries have been at war for many years already. They're not interested in bringing the UK into it

Personally I'd rather go by a massive nuke than the way some folk died in the past!
I also watch a lot of WW2 stuff, and think quick death was probably favourable to what some German women endured at the hands of Russian and Allied Troops in 1945.😔

BunfightBetty · 25/06/2025 16:04

I don’t know if you’re genuinely over-anxious, or trying to stir up fear in others.

But either way - chill your boots.

If you’re genuinely really scared, then please see a therapist, as this kind of thinking isn’t healthy.

Never2many · 25/06/2025 16:04

God these threads are tiresome.

And 24 hour news and social media are the work of the devil.

TwoFastHorses · 25/06/2025 16:05

I’m 61 and I can’t think of a time during my life when there hasn’t been some sort of conflict going on in the Middle East. It doesn’t make WW3 ‘inevitable’!

Puddlewoman · 25/06/2025 16:07

World wars are never declared world wars until afterwards. There won't be some big announcement saying WW3 is here tadah! Which is a shame because if we knew I would take up smoking again. That said I have cancelled a trip to London it was only for a bit of sightseeing but im not taking the risk. I'll leave it till things calm down a bit

You'll have lived through (some of), the Cold War too then, the nuclear threat was always there then as well, even though there wasn't active fighting.

No, it really isn’t. Deep deep breaths OP. Kindly, you are catastrophising, likely based on the news/media you are consuming.

I’ve seen some horrific scaremongering online since the weekend and if you’re already anxious, I can see why it would be scary.

IF, and that’s a huge if, WW3 does happen (which it won’t), it won’t be nuclear. IMO it’ll be tech and cyber. The most you should be doing rn is having a bit of cash on hand just in case online payments etc are affected. And I don’t say this to scare you as the likelihood of that happening is still slim to none.

But nuclear apocalypse. No. Not happening.

Cuppa tea and a choccy biccie for you. Chill.

Some folk are genuinely scared, sadly.

Well then they need to get a bloody grip.

There’s been talk of ww3 since ww2 ended. You know, in the 1940’s?

We grew up in the 80’s with talk about Russia and china and nuclear war, the Cold War was then, they used to have siren drills in the 80’s to test whether the sirens worked - I remember them vividly.

There has been war in the Middle East since time began.

Interestingly enough there are less wars now than there have ever been, it’s just that they’re being more publicised due to 24 hour news coverage.

The government have to have a war strategy, that’s always been the case. But the likes of sky news and other tabloid TV like to whip up a bit of scaremongering by way of something to broadcast on their 24 hour platform.

We shouldn’t be placating these people, they need to get over it, or seek professional help.

You entitled to your view, obviously.
Compassion and explaining also works well imho.

Holluschickie · 25/06/2025 16:11

I am old and remember my dad stockpiling cans in the 80s.
I also remember listening to Nena's ' 99 Red Balloons' and watching 'The Day After'.

KurtShirty · 25/06/2025 16:12

BlueandPinkSwan · 25/06/2025 15:36

There have been wars in the middle east since the start of human civilization. They will still be slugging it out in some shape or form for many years to come.

The Middle East has seen its fair share of conflict, but it’s frankly racist to suggest that “they are always fighting each other” and to understate the massive impact of colonialisation and western interference which has led to the current instability in the region

I agree and I think it's deliberate. People want others to be scared for some reason.

Yes. once. But how many more of these threads are there going to be?

If you’re reading all the scaremongering news, then presumably you’re reading the “let’s all panic about ww3” threads where someone will have compassionately explained. At which point, if you choose to not listen and to continue to panic then you need to be told to get a grip.

If my children came home with that kind of panic about ww3 they would be banned from the internet and I would ban all screens because I refuse to have them exposed to that kind of crap if they can’t deal with it.

MyQuirkyTraybake · 25/06/2025 16:16

How did you come to this conclusion? Genuinely. Write down your thought process and consider where the big leaps were.

The Cold War, the Falklands, Ukraine, various invasions, coups etc all over the world. There is always a conflict somewhere. I don’t remember at any point feeling like the next world war would break out.
