Scared about a poll I read where Reform wins outright in First Past the Post????

I guess we are years away from a General Election, but I am scared about the rise in populism and the seemingly popular Reform. I think it would be unthinkable to have Farage as our Prime Minister. I don't want a small state, private NHS, racist far right populist, Trumpist in charge of the country.

I know MN is generally fairly anti Reform, Brexit etc, but where are all these Reform voters. I don't know anyone personally who has admitted they would vote for them? Is it the all the disenfranchised young men?

Yes, I expect so.
By bring illegal immigration down to zero, and not using hotels that costs millions to house people that come here illegally should go someway to help with this.

It wouldn’t even touch the sides.

How many times. Illegal immigrants are not housed in hotels.

You could well be right.
Scrapping net zero would also contribute.

However, if you believe that climate change is real and poses an existential threat to our way of life, scrapping net zero and 'drill baby drill' are batshit policies that will cost us all far more than money.

Our net zero policies will have near to zero effect on the world's climate.

BIossomtoes · 11/05/2025 09:56

So we should just give up then and burn the planet to a crisp? Personally it doesn’t really matter because I’ll die soon anyway but I do care about future generations. And, of course the more uninhabitable regions close to the Equator become, the more migrants there will be to more temporate zones. So there is that.

I think Mumsnet is very right wing now, flooded with extreme right wing opinions compared to 15/20 years ago when it was very much more of a liberal space! I don't know anybody in real life that is going to vote for Reform.

MN is definitely not far right, centre to beginning to lean slightly right of centre, maybe.

Also, why don't you ask yourself why this shift actually happened? You say this happened over the last 15 years to so, so what in your opinion led to this change?

So we shouldn't even try to do the right thing? Do you drop litter in a place where other people have dropped litter because why the hell not?

Boiling frog syndrome. It all started with Cameron’s government.

No, obviously not. I live my life in ways that I hope are good for the environment. Recycle, walk and public transport as much as I can, mend rather than buy new, etc.
But the net zero policies will bankrupt this country for no good reason, because countries such as China, India and America are pumping out far more CO2 that our net zero policies could ever make a dent in.

We need to stop equating reform voters=bad. It's getting old.

But as far as I'm concerned, Reform voters are bad if they actually understand what they're voting for.

A Reform government would be an absolute disaster for this country, and the responsibility would sit squarely with those who voted them in.

I accept that some will vote Reform without having the ability to fully understand the choice that they're making, and I wouldn't hold those people responsible.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 11/05/2025 10:10

Moveoverdarlin · 11/05/2025 09:41

You don’t know anyone who votes for Reform because they won’t admit to it for fear of being called a racist. You will know people. They just won’t tell you.

You're right. Not many racists are willing to open admit to it.

Why are you walking, recycling and using public transport and recycling when it'll make fuck-all difference?

The reason you don’t know anyone who’ll admit to voting Reform is presumably down to what you think and say about them.

You might find this piece today in the Times interesting:

Voters are sick of lectures from the lanyard class

Thank you for sharing this. It’s exactly how I feel, as a silent reform voter.

Are you seriously trying to link Camerons government to far right politics?

I have been on here for a very long time, sadly it is and I think the onslaught from the extreme right is probably working as I can't imagine being on MN much longer, it is too depressing. I contrast it to my real life and I only know one person that voted for Brexit so Reform's old ground and they regret it now and would vote to Remain.

What has changed is the sheer volume of posters - nothing more, nothing less than that.

Simplifying tax. Stopping interest payments on QE overnight payments. Stopping waste. Making work pay.

What do you think about them adding taxes to your amazon purchases so they can give tax breaks to business owners?
