Will Reform win any votes at the local elections?

How on earth did Australia manage to do it without becoming a pariah?

I don't think Australia's treatment of refugees is widely lauded around the world. Except by certain subsets of people.

I would deport everyone who enters the country illegally to Rwanda . Straight from the small boats to the airport. Or, naval ships in the channel turning the boats around and forbid the border force from picking them up. We need to tighten our borders
And I'd be happy to give up whatever rights are attached to membership of the ECHR. I am content with UK law.

Reform are many things, but they are indisputably a limited company, not a party.

Aren't the Lib Dems a limited company as well?

There is no obligation on refugees to seek asylum in the first safe country. That is a myth. Neighbouring countries take 70%+ of all refugees. You're basically saying that if you're living in a nice country far away from any conflict, you shouldn't have to take any refugees, because they could have stopped travelling earlier.

I'm not saying that at all. Why totally make something up and say that is what I am saying?

I'm saying it is a liberty to travel through many safe countries to come to the UK.

Splitting hairs. You're still saying they should stop in one of those safe countries and never come to the UK. Sadly, international law does not back you up - they are free to do so. Liberty - ah, I do love it.

The law doesn't change the fact that it is mick take for someone to travel through many safe countries.

So you're basically still saying that the UK shouldn't have to take any asylum seekers. You can deny it until you're blue in the face, but it's what you're saying.

BTW the reason asylum seekers from Afghanistan come to the UK is 1) they tend to speak English as a second language, and 2) they have collaborated with UK forces during the war, putting themselves at risk, and now hope the UK will have the decency to support them in return. Obviously a lot of people on this thread have no such decency.

I agree we can take a certain percentage, but it is still a joke people travelling through many different safe countries. They should be grateful in the first one they arrive in. They shouldn't get to pick and choose.

I was hardly being serious. Anyone with a braincell could recognise that. You are just deflecting. So you don't think it is a bit of a liberty to go from safe country to safe country to safe country then claim asylum?

It's like being homeless and not eaten for a few days, someone offering you a sandwich but saying no and demanding a Toby Carvery.

You were being completely serious in your response. It’s all there in black and white.

1 sentence with 1 word naming a country that's been on the news every day for an extended period of time. Yeah ok I was being serious it is a safe country.

It would be interesting to move the discussion on. What is your local Reform candidate going to do locally that appeals to you?

Ok, well it is still a one liner. There are plenty of adequate countries nearby instead of being greedy and travelling unnecesarily further.
