Will Reform win any votes at the local elections?

These local elections do not include London and several counties where the Labour or Lib Dem vote is higher than average. Reform will gain seats, and it will look a greater gain as a result.

Votes against the government of the day are quite normal in local elections (or previous supporters not voting). In many cases local issues will be secondary.

Then why such hatred for people to whom these routes are not available which is why they have to resort to crossing the Channel in a small boat?

I don't have hatred for these people, I just disagree they should be crossing as they are potentially dangerous people and it causes a lot of expense to the UK. They should be put off from travelling as they are coming from a safe country.

Hopefully these overseas hubs proposed by the UN will reduce the boats. I'm more annoyed with the incompetence of MPs.

Yet bond yields have fallen back and growth is up quite a bit......unemployment rates have stayed stable, inflation down...oh and business confidence has increased too...

Which kind of blows a hole in your right wing rhetoric that Reeves has wrecked the UKs economy...

We were last in recession in Q4 2023, just 6 months before the general election...under the Tories....

And you have highlighted one massive problem right there, people are not aware of this because MSM in the main are anti Labour.

They include Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire which have a high level of LibDem voters. I can’t see Reform having much impact there.

Oh yes totally agree.

I could have added in improvements in the NHS too, its not reported and if it is, its tacked on the end of a news bulletin or on page 14.

When the MSM had the chance to write about improved GDP figures, the SUN ran a story on their polling that "Britain is Broken" i saw no headline on these figures from the Mail, Express etc etc.

Had the Tories been in charge, the headlines would have been "Brexit Britain Booming" or similar...

Change the law to be able to send people back to where they came from.

Pre Brexit you could do exactly that under the Dublin Convention.

We don’t have elections next month but if e did I’d vote LibDem. We have an outstanding councillor who responded to an email within 5 minutes and sorted an issue with the council. Really impressive on local issues generally.

I do not think Reform are a serious party (or business). They are promising the earth and people appear to believe them. It’s interesting the number of candidates who turn out to be wrong uns.

Alexandra2001 · 20/04/2025 08:20

We don't need any law changes... i cannot believe people still come out with this nonsense.
Labour are sending back many more people than the Tories ever did, almost 30k now...but.....

....Send back to where? do people still lack the intelligence to realise that countries also have their own border controls and do not have to accept back anyone, just as we refuse to accept back many of our own citizens too.

Edited

If the hubs are for failed asylum seekers they will cost a huge amount, and not really be possible. And won’t reduce crossings.

Not sure if Labour are serious about doing it or it’s for headlines pre local elections and trying to quell Reform. It will be tough if they do badly, Runcorn too.

It may not reduce crossings but at least they will not stay in the UK, so next best thing.

Do you mean all asylum seekers will be in hubs?

Or would you expect those who are granted asylum to stay in the Uk? So about 60% will stay.

Failed ones at the moment, but the law should be changed to tighten the criteria or stop them being accepted.

Entering the country unlawfully is or should be made to be.

Why would you start a thread when you don’t actually know the basics of what you’re talking about?

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/04/2025 09:01

TalkToTheHand123 · 19/04/2025 22:27

My second sentence states I do not think they can currently apply outside the UK. I agree they should be allowed and able to apply outside the UK, but the boats will still come as most won't apply as they won't be genuine or accepted.

Just have to hope they can be processed as quickly as possible and be sent to places they wouldn't risk going on a boat for.

Red carpet as in a nice hotel, free meals and free money. They should be put in refugee camps.

Well aren’t you delightful?

Refugee camps? These are human beings, like you.

dubsie · 20/04/2025 09:05

Please look at the policies of Farage.

  1. Wants to make it easier to fire workers
  2. Wants to strip things like paid holidays and sick pay in line with America
  3. Wants to lower food standards by allowing stuff like chlorinated chicken into the UK.... America has a high incidence of food poisoning compared to Europe which has more people.

4.Wants private insurance to cover healthcare, have youve ever tried getting holiday insurance if your got a serious health condition. There was a time when British people didn't need health insurance in Europe...but then people voted to leave the EU and now you need it. Guess what that was Farages idea...leave the EU

  1. Will cut taxes but will also cut public spending

So you will vote for a party that says it will stop the boats...but hasn't said how , It's a crowd pleaser aimed at getting people to vote for them....then you'll get all of the above.

Don't vote for someone who has proved himself wrong many times before. Leaving the EU has been a disaster and voting for Farage will make you poorer, less secure and destroy all this good work this government has done rebuilding our relationship with Europe.

BobbyBiscuits · 20/04/2025 09:15

I'd imagine they'd take more votes from the Tories than labour. But labour had to go tory-lite to win the election so maybe those people who voted for them once last time could be swayed towards reform?
They'd never get in round my area. There's not enough racists. I hope!

Not round here. It's a very traditionally labour area. Very mixed, high property prices but lots of social housing. I hope not anyway, lol. They did have a candidate here but they were one of those ones that seemingly didn't actually exist.

Not much sea there for a shark. A neighbouring country should be made to take them at least.
