Why America voted for Trump, a simple, sane summary

Bippy2024 · 08/11/2024 10:30

This is why Trump won so resoundingly - this is why 72 million Americans voted for him - in one of his voter's own words.

If you choose to monster and slur 72 million people, that's saying a lot about you. Every accusation is a confession.

"I know a lot of people who voted for Trump. Let me tell you their reasons.
They wanted a return to normalcy. Gender ideology is just too out there. They want to protect women and children.

The economy has been disastrous for them. They didn’t have a cushion to absorb the inflation. They are cutting out everything in their lives just to afford food. And some are cutting that out.

Their lives have gotten very small. When they tried to tell you, they were told they shouldn’t splurge on things like a frozen pizza.

They see people coming illegally into this country and being handed stuff. Their stuff. Their money is being handed over. They have nothing. They watch as others are just handed more than they have.

They can’t afford rent and don’t know what to do. More people fighting for the same housing units makes prices rise.

They see a frightening turn towards censorship. They value the first amendment. Remember, it’s very important. They are so tired of being lied to and called terrible names.

Every time the mainstream media made up a story to make people hysterical they rolled their eyes. This pushed more and more people away. They stopped having any faith in the media. A firing squad? Really?

They feel the hysteria is toxic and frightening. Again they want this all to calm down.

They watch as political protests are punished for only one side. They see crime running rampant.

They see the people who try to protect us from crime being punished. The criminals go free to re-offend.

Essentially, they want their children to be healthy, they want their family to be fed, they don’t want endless war, they want things to be fair, they want the bad guys punished and the good guys appreciated, they want to protect women and children.

I hope if you are frightened today you will hear me. I hope I can help you see that things are not dire. I hope I can help you see that these were regular everyday folks who want regular everyday things. Food, clothing, shelter, privacy, respect for boundaries.

That’s it. Just those things. Peace."

Thanks, but I don't need a 'simple' explanation, it's rather patronising and I'm more than capable of understanding exactly what is going on in the US.

Eyesopenwideawake · 08/11/2024 12:23

Sounds very like the reasons that were given for leaving the EU. That worked out well, didn’t it.

ParaParaParaphrase · 08/11/2024 12:34

Sounds simple indeed. Very simple…

Oh and thank you in advance to the sneery hysterics who have no actual argument for the 72 million people who chose Trump, except to try to mock and denigrate people they do not know and have no understanding of, and no actual ability to even try to understand.

Remember - and this is a fact - every accusation is a confession. Every single slur, insult and sneer you aim at this woman and the other 72 million people who chose this path is a reflection only, and solely, of you.

I just posted this because a few of you aren't as thick as fuck and actually might be curious. I don't care how much spewing you do. This is why they voted Trump, take it or take it, you can't leave it.

It doesn't matter whether you like it, or whether you froth, foam and screech about it. He's in. Get used to it.

@Bippy2024 you are absolutely spot on. That is exactly why they voted for Trump.

TeaMistress · 08/11/2024 12:56

He was voted in because the American people were sick of their leaders and politicians not listening to them and dismissing their concerns as bigoted or racist or thick . I don't like Trump. I think he's a misogynist rapist felon. But I get why people voted for him and I think Labour should be looking at this as a wake up call

potoftea · 08/11/2024 13:00

I find it crazy how the people on this side of the world are so critical of Trump winning.
Whatever we think of him....the majority of Americans chose him out of the 2 candidates, and I think its really rude for us as outsiders to dismiss them as wrong.
I'm sure lots are not very nice people, but he would not have won if those were the only people voting for him.
If we are really hoping to avoid people like him being elected anywhere, then we really need to respectfully listen to those who voted for him, and learn.

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 08/11/2024 13:03

None of those reasons is good enough to vote for a convicted felon awaiting sentencing that now will not happen

I don't like him either, he's such a wanker, those squirmy caterpillar lips and that endless waffling - but yep he listened to them and didn't just scream "RACIST HATEFUL BIGOT!" every time they said "We're scared of this please help us".

And let's not forget the Democrats are hardly in the clear when it comes to men abusing women and children. So maybe they just thought they'd vote for the one who aligned the most closely with their concerns.

Labor in Aus did the same thing they just kept shouting RACISTS DUMB BOGANS ARSEHOLES for 6 months leading up to the referendum about giving Indigenous people more power - and then were shocked and devastated when they voted an overwhelming no. Same with Brexit in the UK, screaming abuse at people didn't change the outcome.

Maybe the left just cannot learn that monstering your fellow citizens doesn't, ever win votes.

But his re election and subsequent presidency, is going to have far reaching, effects on the global stage. And I am not just talking about a few trade deals. Goodness knows what it will mean now for Ukraine, and Europe’s wider security, for example. And lot now will change on that front. People outside of America are definitely allowed to comment on this election in which ever they want, as their lives will be in some affected by his re election. It’s not just in American society - the world climate is about to change, drastically. And non Americans have every right to comment.

Labour currently aren't doing themselves any favours and the people of this country will remember how they have acted to quell any voice that dares to argue with them. If they won't confront these issues then the next election will see a landslide for either reform or reform plus Tories as a coalition. .I'm sorry. I know that's an awful prospect but that's what is going to happen if Labour don't address the real issues that people are worried about.

Two main pillars of his policy proposals, tariffs and mass deportations, are likely to cause prices to rise as they will make it more difficult for businesses to produce goods," Jacob Channel, chief economist at LendingTree, told CBS MoneyWatch.

Trump's plan to levy a 10% tariff on all imports and 60% or more on Chinese goods shipped to the U.S. could add $1,700 a year in additional costs for a typical middle-class household, according to the non-partisan Peterson Institute for International Economics.

Trump's plans could boost the inflation rate by as much 1 percentage point, bringing it to an annual rate of about 3.4% — above the Fed's 2% goal — according to Andrzej Skiba of RBC Global Asset Management.

If the Tories hadn't been so detested and so absolutely god awful, he'd never have got in, he got a tiny number of votes really, and Reform got nearly half what he got, which is frankly astonishing and a bit scary.

And yep, if Labour won't learn, they'll learn the hard way - like the Democrats just did and like I suspect Australia will in a few months time.

@Bippy2024 I'm centre left and I actually agree on many of these things- however unfortunately I also think they put the bad guy in power- I think both were lousy candidates.Trump on a personal level and the Democrats on not understanding that maybe 70% of population are purely self interested and want to know practicalities and not ideologies - oh and I don't think inflationary costs will rocket downsides either - I just think Trump is way better at bullshitting.

SimpleThings101 · 08/11/2024 13:23

I wonder- do those currently raging against the result not believe in democracy?
Because the demos / the people have spoken and it is up to everyone now to settle down and accept the choice of the people.

I don't know what to expect, he did ok the last time re the economy, but I know there are lots of reasons behind that.

I know that they're saying that grocery prices under Biden were three times what they were under Trump and they couldn't afford rent. I know that they really were allowing people to just walk over the border, in their hundreds of thousands, I've seen the videos.

I don't know what to think, but I hope it works out ok for them, that is a country that needs some stability,

I hope they settle down and remember that they're ALL Americans and they all have the right to disagree with each other without being screamed at, threatened or slurred (and though the left are winners in the game of slurs, the right are armed and that's a worry too).

Well, he's in now, all we can do is hope.

Voters did not move towards him.

He got 72 million votes, she got less than 68 million, he got all the swing states and both the popular and electoral votes. 295 electoral votes to 226. That's a big win.

But anyway, per my post - I am saying that they have their own good reasons for voting for him, and people screaming abuse about it won't change that.

Now just interchange the word America for UK and cut and paste it, as this is how many of us feel. Except we don’t have a Trump or anyone else to advocate for us. We have Farage but he doesn’t have the clout like Trump to change things.

I feel we as a nation are finished, but good luck to the Americans and I really mean that. I hope they can turn it around. It’s too late for us, we don’t have the deep cultural patriotism that Americans have. That’s what will save them, their ability to put their own country and citizens first, the belief in the American dream.

Good luck to them.

The champagne socialists need to listen, and maybe even learn, from the 'average Joe' who feels their lives are being made less good by issues such as illegal immigration. I can see the UK going the same way as the US.
At least our party leaders are not criminals...what a low bar though.

2020 : Joe Biden 81.3m votes ~ Donald Trump 74.2m votes
2024 : Kamala Harris 69.0m votes ~ Donald Trump 73.4m votes

Why did 12 million Democrats stay home ?
They DID NOT switch to Trump
they stayed home.
