Do you seriously think we can continue to support and absorb over a million migrants arriving a year?

Edited

I missed the bit where I said that. Probably because nobody said that.

Alexandra2001 · 02/11/2024 18:34

Wow all you like but the vast majority in the current figures, which are still over 650,000, are not Ukrainians or from HK or from Afghanistan, they are Africans, Asians coming here on student visas, care workers etc etc and their families and dependents.

Students go home, as do their families. In any case the idea is to stop illegal trafficking and migrants.

I see what you are saying.
I'll try to explain myself better.

It's a bit like a person in their 60s, who has enjoyed the benefit of free University, a secure job and is now claiming their state pension calling for higher student fees and the scrapping of the state pension for younger people and then calling them entitled and unreasonable when they complain that this is unfair. Even worse, if they have been a part of the government which has actively driven up debt with their policies and helped to make said things unaffordable.
It's not a perfect analogy but hopefully you see what I'm aiming at!

Is it ever ok for any briton of colour to have an opinion on immigration other than “more please”? Genuine question, because the logical conclusion is that I should be in favour of open borders as no-one should be denied entry because I benefited.

It’s a bit upsetting to be told that I should really adhere to a set of principles because the circumstances of my birth and my race means that if I don’t it’s somehow a betrayal of my ancestors. I didn’t choose where or to whom I was born. All I can do is consider whether a given policy is good or bad for my country as things stand today.

I do understand what you are saying but it means that we can never criticise things we have at some point benefited from. You can personally benefit from low taxes but also believe that higher taxation would be better, or be treated by the NHS with a good outcome and still believe it needs reform.

You can benefit from immigration but also believe immigration should be selective and controlled. And as I said no-one is talking about zero immigration and no-one is talking about open borders. There will be differences between the parties on numbers etc but I think the idea of “anti-immigration” is the wrong one, no-one is actually calling for no immigration, it would be impractical.

She's not been selected because of her personal views or intellectual ability - but more despite of these.

She's been selected by Tufton Street because she attracts attention and is willing to parrot whatever nonsense her handlers tell her to. If a boring grey man like Stride, Tugendhat or Cleverly had been chosen, nobody would have commented on MN or anywhere else. Honest Bob is just a piss-poor Farage tribute act, and Tufton Street already saw that his impact on Reform voters would be minimal.

So they've put Badenoch in place. Her job is to shout angry accusations at Starmer every Wednesday lunchtime for the next 4 years and to put her name to articles in the Mail, Express and Telegraph critical of anything and everything that Labour are doing as they try to clear up the shit-show that they've inherited from the Conservatives.

Totally agree

I agree with this. Does Kemi need to say we mustn't have any controls?

It's not practical so clearly not.

As for the current asylum system it's not working as a system and people are dying weekly in the channel.

Make your mind up!

Over 3m HK can come here if they wish (Cons even changed the law to enable them to do so....) , similar numbers from Afghanistan and 44m form Ukraine...... should Russia win, which Badenoch would want as she supports Trump..... who defo wants Russia to win and who wants out of NATO....

what a great PM she'll make!!

Your post is too ridiculous to reply to. 44m Ukrainians coming here?! Please. You are discrediting yourself.

We have to stop economic migration - those arriving illegally should be immediately deported after checks, if we still want to offer refuge to real refugees! We can NOT continue as we are, most people know that.

The Tories and Badenoch has been part of this, have been in for 14 years, they've done absolutely zilch to control numbers, infact in recent years have opened up student, worker and family visas.

No one can accuse KB Sunak Braverman etc of pulling any draw bridge up behind her!!! they went and built a few extra bridges....

Not going well.

No, you said we should welcome fleeing Ukrainians, what number would you stop at?
Very few of the 44m in Ukraine are going to stay there under Putin....

You Tories have actively encouraged economic migration, inc Badenoch.

Deport x channel migrants to where exactly? France wont have them back and neither will most other countries, thats assuming there are even air links to these places..... you re the one discrediting yourself with silly ill thought out comments.

It might be possible to overlook the criminals openly trafficking people and children this month, if Labour had a solid and credible plan to activate to stop this madness but no, They plan to talk to France! Well good luck with that - such a naive and pitiful response. Meanwhile their plan to cut numbers is absolutely non existent!

The housing crisis continues to worsen, the hospital list continues to grow and we are all suffering, and it’s not a good feeling knowing things are going to get even worse under Labour undoubtedly. More deaths, more pressure, no control, it’s infuriating.

Llhaaf · 02/11/2024 18:59

I am wondering what state we’d have to get to, for the left to say that they’ve had enough uncontrolled immigration?

It’s quite insane to allow thousands of people to enter the UK everyday, especially without any checks or tests.

We should have somewhere to deport them to if they’ve ’lost’ their documents. Somewhere like Rwanda perhaps?

Anywhere that would deter them from bothering to come to the UK.

The Rwanda scheme was a very expensive failure. Why are you focusing on 3% of immigrants into the UK?

In fairness Labour did everything in their power to stop the Tories from being able to get Rwanda off the ground and running.
Who knows if it could have been a deterrent? We’ll never know now.

What we do know however, is that Labours plan sucks and the problem is only growing.

I like her but she may end up being a caretaker leader since it will be a long time until the next General Election
