Just seen this and I swear they keep forgetting they won the election and are in power now

The constant gaffes and sixth form debate club politics are very embarrassing. I was ready for change, but fucking hell.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer speaking in front of a small crowd

Labour volunteers in US helping Harris 'in spare time', Keir Starmer says

The prime minister said volunteers from his party travelled to the US for "pretty much every" presidential election.

Labour volunteers is non story,

this however is a story

Several senior Conservative politicians in the UK, including Liz Truss and Boris Johnson are supporting Trump and/or saying he won’t withdraw from NATO/stop supporting Ukraine.

John Bolton, Trump’s own former National Security adviser, disagrees.

“I think it’s very likely Trump will withdraw from Nato. I think this would be a catastrophic mistake for the United States”

Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton says Donald Trump doesn’t understand “how alliances function”

You are the dumb one op, or naive at least. It is not at all uncommon, and many UK politicians of all political colours have done this before.

I don't actually care about the US election, I'm more concerned about our government bungling on the international stage. The Labour party needs to focus on the UK, they are the government now and everything they do and say is under scrutiny. There is no reason or excuse for our government or our government officials to be involved or interfere in the election process of another country. They could get away with it in opposition (not really, but no one cared), but please realise they are the government now and it is not on. The Head of Operations for the Labour Party (currently in government) should not have posted that and it is just one more thing that makes me realise they haven't switched from protest party to government mode. Just be professional and I'll have no issues. Also I reckon the Labour party are paying for their volunteers, there was a "we" in the post.

Just an illustration of how this ‘we’ business can work.
I volunteer for. dogs’Home, walking dogs, fundraising, raising awareness of the home at events, including taking dogs to music gigs. Recently a member of staff at the home sent out a message saying ‘we have 3 places for people to take dogs to meet Beverley Knight before her gig’. Nobidy paid anyone anything. Beverley Knight took the time unpaid. The volunteers weren’t paid. They took dogs in their own cars, and paid parking, with no travel expenses.
That’s what ‘we’ means in the post you are so concerned about. Someone working for the Labour Party - not the Parliamentary Party, the party at large - has organised a trip for any volunteers who want to pay their own expenses and go. It’s perfectly legal. It’s also perfectly normal, and happens at every election, as others have pointed out.

That analogy wouldn't work unless you posted from your Linkedin which had your current job title on it and still used the "we". The assumption would be you were speaking on behalf of your current employment in your title, rather than your dog charity that didn't get a mention. Also the LabourforKamala under your title of Head of Operations for the Labour Party ...

Yes. The woman who works for the dogs’ home did exactly that. Didn’t you read it? She said ‘we’. The dogs’ home paid nobody anything, just facilitated the event.

JRSKSSBH · 24/10/2024 13:59

You only have to look at that dummy Lammy (so ignorant he doesn’t know the process for choosing a new pope and so thick he thought that female sex hormones could enable a man to grow a cervix) to understood the lame, over promoted, chippy, self-serving, dross in government now.

Did you miss the last 14 years? Johnson, Sunak and bloody hell the lettuce that outlasted Truss.

Get a grip, stop posting bollocks as fact and get used to Britain under Labour- there's another four years at least.

So the Labour Party facilitated the "LabourForKamala" campaign? I'm not sure if you're agreeing with me.

Other than the word 'we', do you have any other information that the Labour Party paid for these volunteers?

I don’t think you have any idea what you are talking about. The difference between the government and the wider party and between funding and facilitating have been repeatedly pointed out. As has the fact the campaigners from British parties, both those in government and those in opposition, is entirely usual. You don’t seem capable of reading/understanding/taking on board these points. I’m out. It’s pointless

It could be likened to having a Brexi Secretary who doesn’t understand the importance of the English Channel to trade.

MNISLW · 24/10/2024 19:30

Reeves: Britain cannot afford to pay Commonwealth reparations demands.

What a dumb ass comment - it infers that the UK would pay if we could afford it.
She should have simply reiterated that there’s no discussion to be had.

I dread to think what Lammy is saying behind the scenes….

@MNISLW what’s going on with the debt rules and £50bn do you know?

I’ve been skipping her statement

You're missing the point (shock) The Labour party are the government now "LabourforKamala" is a bad look if Trump wins when we have to go begging for a trade deal soon. The current Head of Operations for the Labour Party (remember now in government ...) organising the interference in the election of one of our closest allies is again bad. Being in government means no mouthing off, more professional and diplomacy etc.

Yes, it's an unwritten rule that other governments do not get involved in the elections of other countries and certainly would never state a preference for a candidate because a) it's very unprofessional and b) itcould have serious ramifications, being very bad for our country.

Reeves said that she would make a technical change to the way debt is measured which will allow it to fund extra investment.
She said this was being done "so that we can grow our economy and bring jobs and growth to Britain".
However, Reeves' first Budget next week is still expected to mean some cuts to public services and tax rises.

Increase debt in order to get debt down…

Comedy gold.

Economic sensibility though. Trying to fix debt by austerity is what ground the U.K. economy to a halt once the Tories took over in 2010. We know that doesn’t work.

The UK economy is strangled by its piss poor infrastructure. You can sit and do nothing and watch while everybody who can get out of the country does or you can borrow to improve the infrastructure and encourage people to invest in the U.K. Granted it might be better to fix the problem with frictionless trade with our biggest and nearest trading partner too but you can’t have everything.
