How dumb are Labour

Just seen this and I swear they keep forgetting they won the election and are in power now
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c62m2pde4p6o

The constant gaffes and sixth form debate club politics are very embarrassing. I was ready for change, but fucking hell.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer speaking in front of a small crowd

Labour volunteers in US helping Harris 'in spare time', Keir Starmer says

The prime minister said volunteers from his party travelled to the US for "pretty much every" presidential election.

Both main parties engaged in a conspiracy of silence over the state of the public finances. The Conservatives decision to cut NI, which they quite reasonably put up to pay for Social Care, flew in the face of logic.

If Sunak had won there would have had to be either tax increases, cuts or both.

Spot on. And Sunak was promising tax cuts knowing full well that no government would be able to do that.

Rishi Sunak

Rishi Sunak pledges further tax cuts in Tory election manifesto

The prime minister puts further cuts to National Insurance at the heart of his offer to voters.

I feel utterly betrayed by Labour - I voted for them and now bitterly regret it. I was simply disenfranchised with the Tories, as I suspect many voters were.

So as a genuine question if you had your time again who would you have voted for?

The main argument for people voting Labour was "well they can't be any worse than the current Conservative Government " - well the jury is still out on that one imo.

The Conservatives had a series of car crashes from Brexit, to Johnson then a bit of normality under Theresa May, then Liz Truss who was not only the shortest time as PM but probably the worst and finishing up with Sunak who meant well but too much damage had been caused, too much confidence lost and had too little time to fix it.

The Lib Dems only policy seemed to be we are not the Tories or Labour and have been completely silent since.

Reform is a protest group and not a serious political party.

Ditto for the Greens.

I would have voted for the LibDems for local reasons.

Voting Labour was a massive mistake.

Pure spéculation.

Whilst we won’t need to wait long for Labours true
intentions.

At the moment it’s speculation about Labour too…
Ive pointed you to this on another thread, but some posters here might be interested.

From a Starmer press release:
“If people want to criticise the path we choose, that’s their prerogative. But let them then spell out a different direction. If they think the state has grown too big, let them tell working people which public services they would cut. If they don’t see our long-term investment in infrastructure as necessary, let them explain to working people how they would grow the economy for them."

PM: Government's first Budget will invest in Britain's future

Prime Minister Keir Starmer will pledge that his government’s first Budget will put Britain on a new path, one that chooses long-term growth to put more money in working people’s pockets and rebuild public services instead of a return to austerity.

RichTea90 · 31/10/2024 07:24

Do you think the Greens would offer better than Labour currently?

1dayatatime · 31/10/2024 09:12

@AlbionLass

"I would have voted for the LibDems for local reasons.

Voting for local reasons or based on the candidate rather than a national party is a sensible approach.

That way you have a greater electoral impact on local issues or local MP that has the most political impact on your day to day life.

Also if the new Government doesn't turn out as hoped for then at least you still have a good local MP focusing on local issues.

So, as predicted looking kind of dumb. Anyone think "LabourforKamala" have learnt their lesson on picking favourites in another country's election or are they more likely chirpily preparing for their 2028 campaign.

I also wondered if Labour just do this for the US or do they lend their know how and virtue to political campaigns all round the world. Did they travel for the French election as well?

There was also a direct tiff with Elon Musk who seems to be quite powerful and directly endorsed by Trump. Anyone else wondering what if any future roles Musk might have in the future?

1dayatatime · 06/11/2024 08:36

LabourforKamala is now looking even dumber.

After Brexit the UK needs trading partners more than ever, Trump is about to put in trade tariffs and Labour Party members are seen to be getting involved in the US election.

I just wish Labour would realise that this is not the Student Union and there are actual people's jobs, homes and families at risk here

I wish the electorate would get that too, well the ones who voted for them

We'll have to hope Trump won't hit us with trade tariffs

Araminta1003 · 06/11/2024 11:36

OK well I am neither camp Labour nor camp Torie. But one thing I have learnt from Starmer, is that he is perfectly capable and master at playing both sides. He will just sleaze up to Trump and it will be fine. How he deals with his spat with Musk is another matter. However, note that Philipson has been happily using Twitter to spew hate against private schools so clearly they are going to slime up to Musk too.

Araminta1003 · 06/11/2024 11:38

The silver lining in all of this despite Trump etc, is that we can all keep saying whatever we want on MN and Twitter etc and nobody will be able to lock us up. So at least that. Moaning is still allowed!

ohdelay · 07/11/2024 21:10

Make it make sense, how can these two tweets exist on the same account

Don't they have a work experience child to delete all the embarrassing stuff. There needs to be a no personal social media rule for politicians.

It’s called diplomacy. It’s perfectly possible to consider Trump a dangerous racist (and misogynist as it happens) but also recognise the role he is now in. The second tweet congratulates him on the win and then says positive things about America - as is convention (and necessity) for a politician who has to work with American interests. What it doesn’t do is say that Trump isn’t racist, or is a nice person.

Really? Diplomacy would be not making the tweet in the first place. Looks more like hypocrisy. Here's some more "diplomacy"

I could probably trawl through Labour twitter over the past 7 years and find more of the same.

Is the first tweet incorrect in some way?
Is the second?
I’m sure you could find more of Labour politicians being honest. It’s one of the reasons people wanted them in power rather than the lying Tories.

Edit: I’m ignoring the second ‘examples’ in your reply as they aren’t really relevant, what with not being on Lammy’s twitter.

Diplomacy means not emoting every thought in your head on a public forum when you might have to negotiate with the subject of your emoting later. Rightness is not the point, professionalism is more the goal

Every thought in your head? Give over. This was Lammy, as an opposition politician, objecting to an official visit by someone who had just said extreme racists were ‘good people’. Totally valid. I agree with him.
If I were in his position now I would really not want to give Trump the time of day, but I would do so because it would be my job. That’s what’s happened here.

"but I would do so because it would be my job"
which is now possibly untenable because of his previous actions.

Not at all. That’s not how politics works.
Do you think Trump believes everyone likes him? Or really cares? As long as he has power and can get people to do what he wants he’s happy. Nobody (regardless of their opinion of him) will be able to count on friendliness. He’ll deal if he gets what he wants, and not otherwise.

DuncinToffee · 08/11/2024 13:50

Is this about the special relationship?
