No questions the Tories were bad, but Labour are on another level.

Are you still happy you voted them in? Be honest now, you are having your doubts aren’t you?

If not, you really should be.

I disagree.

One only has to read the BBC, Guardian and FT to see that the tide might be turning. Please heed the comments.

This was always going to happen - barely 24 hours grace after the election before the carping and complaining started

It was always inevitable

Efacsen · 19/09/2024 10:43

I do not understand how anyone can possible deny, regardless of politics, that we have an issue with retention?

Sorry who is denying that there is a problem with retention?

Or that there are early attempts to address it

'Carping'

Well it's your party people are criticising not even solely the right wing press.

But good to see you do recognise many do have an issue with Labour, not a 'few voices'

DejaTu · 19/09/2024 10:46

Zonder · 19/09/2024 10:38

Do the comments say the ship hadn't sunk under the Tories?

Of course there will be comments against labour - all the headlines are fluffing up adding a load of rubbish to stories

The comments address the current government and the current challenges - as you would expect.

They do but there is a lot of commentary by the BBC and MSM that adds a lot of their bias to the facts. You just had to listen to how the Sue Gray salary was presented on radio 4 Today this morning.

You've said this a few times now - about 'your party' - still thought it was a secret ballot and I'll never be telling anyone how I voted - not you, no Mumsnet, not even close family

Araminta1003 · 19/09/2024 10:52

@Zonder - I think the main stream media did exactly the same to the Tories. The underlying issues facing the country have not changed just because we have had a change of party in charge. As much as some people would like to think there is a magic wand. There is not.

Is the ‘carping’ valid in your opinion?

Bear in mind that much is from the left.

Fine by me if you didn't I can't say to interests me that much but going by your posts you do seem pro Labour

My point was on the 'few voices' which was incorrect

Some of is - a lot of it IMO isn't and distracts from more pressing/important issues

Such as a politician using a card at a petrol station?

If Labour use those stories to get into power they can't complain when dresses, glasses and freebies comes back at them in spades

The public is very happy to do as they wanted, just at them

Araminta1003 · 19/09/2024 11:02

The public is fickle. The MSM have convinced the public that the Tories did austerity when actually the Tories spent shedloads on the NHS and during Covid. So now Labour has to do austerity and there is a mismatch of expectations. People just have to accept that they need to get back to work and work more across the board and put more back into the system. There is no magic money tree.

Here's another recent headline he might not like

'Sharp dip in public backing for Starmer and Reeves, poll shows'

It'll be good to come back to it after the October budget and the freebie stuff

It doesn’t matter what the polls say now. We’re four years away from another general election. That’s an eternity in politics.

mumda · 19/09/2024 11:05

When will their petitions page be open again?

Araminta1003 · 19/09/2024 11:05

Yes but we are also only 4 years away from turning the ship around. There is no point spending months and months wasting time blaming the Tories. When the real big risk at the next election isn’t even the incompetent Tories but the prospect of worse than that.

It really does.

You cannot always rely on the party whips, and the markets can be brutal (look at Truss).

Do you know the CBI and IoD have said Starmer is too negative?

He really is getting criticism from all angles.

No idea what you're asking for

Araminta1003 · 19/09/2024 11:10

Yes I agree we absolutely need confidence in the market and Government.

There is no point going on about broadest shoulders when the broadest shoulders piss off so easily. The fact is, the Tories bled the country dry already and the highest tax payers already have the highest burden in 70 plus years and anymore will just result in people leaving. Sure you can go for pensioners and their inheritances because they generally cost and do not produce, but it is not a good look. It is probably also why there is such a huge storm over the WFA - it is the fear of worse to come.
I really hope the Budget is very business friendly. Most of us just want them to crack on and produce economic growth and stop getting bogged down in pointless crap like WFA and tax on education and freebies.
