No questions the Tories were bad, but Labour are on another level.

Are you still happy you voted them in? Be honest now, you are having your doubts aren’t you?

If not, you really should be.

I wonder why @EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime has abandoned their thread? 🤔

Maybe report it if you think it is a troll instead of just making suggestions of it

I think 4th July 2025 would be an appropriate time to take stock.

I am not suggesting that, but please do report my post to MNHQ if you think it is troll hunting.

I wondered if they have been banned as they haven't posted on this thread since their deleted posts.

dontcryformeargentina · 14/09/2024 09:18

I haven't voted for them but expected them to be better than tories. I'm extremely disappointed at the moment with the way things are going. No wonder new PM performance opinion polls dropped to the lowest recently. If it continues like that, Labour won't be around after the next election.

They are doing the nasty stuff first. There will be some sweetners later on I expect. I doubt the Tories will be in any fit shape to win the next GE.

Pretty sure @PandoraSox is the same as me and wouldn't dream of reading anything other than the Morning Star and the Socialist Worker because obviously we can't be reading anything more broad than that if we don't totally agree with you. What do you read?

I read The Guardian (obviously!), The Times and at the moment also subscribe to the The New York Times as interested in the election. Listen to various radio stations. Don't watch the TV news much.

Why do you ask? What do you read?

EasternStandard · 14/09/2024 09:37

Zonder · 14/09/2024 09:06

So funny. You told me I should read other threads than just labour ones, even though I post on all sorts of threads and the one I guess you're talking about isn't even a pro labour thread it's more of an anti corruption in government thread and now you're suggesting more posters don't read anywhere else.

I think your crystal ball is broken.

Yep. I look at other media then come on here and its the same posters going on about 'bots' on nearly every thread.

Posters must be filtering out a huge chunk of what's going on given the level of criticism going on just generally

Zonder · 14/09/2024 09:39

Except you know that's not true because those same posters are also giving informed responses to the posts on here.

I'd suggest they read commentary from people not just pro Labour posts on mn

Not sure what the point is if they are going to charge VAT on Purcell/Chetham etc. There is no joined up thinking.

Would you? Cheers.

You know that many of the posters who disagree with you are very well informed. Easier to pretend otherwise as an explanation for why they don't agree with you, I guess.

It is odd how you are painting a picture of those of us on the left all being uncritical of Labour. It is simply not true. Read my posts.

My posts are referring to the number of times pro Labour posters call anyone who disagrees with their take a 'bot'

If they think that is the case I'd say they are avoiding large chunks of commentary out there

Can you explain how
"Disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND to receive support to progress their musical talent and interests"
will be affected by taxing those schools/businesses you mentioned?

You are misunderstanding.

I'm sure you feel informed but if you think any post not Labour enough for you is a bot then you must be missing what's being said more widely than mn

Araminta1003 · 14/09/2024 09:48

“Private schools - this has been done to death, but I am amazed at the number of people who have to use private school because of their SEND children. I am guessing that these children were never diagnosed as otherwise they'd have a ECHP and the local school would have to provide accessible education for them. ( I have no skin in this game as my children are all grown up). I feel that so many posters tie themselves up in knots about whether their children actually have SEND or don't in their efforts to tell everyone else VAT on school fees is wrong because of their children's issues. In my opinion it is a luxury, these are businesses so it makes sense they have VAT on their fees. Schools can and some will mitigate the effect by reducing fees.”

@Summernightsinthe21stcentury - this is very offensive and ableist.

My DS went to a one form entry church state school where they were able to control the environment for him, take him out to calm places and nurture him. He then went to a superselective grammar with a lot of highly able other boys who just want to learn and again they provided safe spaces.

The actual learning environment is absolutely critical for DC with SEND that are autism. The typical bustling huge comp with rigid rules, locked toilets etc and harsh discipline absolutely would not have worked for him. As a parent, I knew this.
We parents know what is best for our DC.
We do NOT NEED DADDY STARMER to tell us what to do!

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 14/09/2024 09:49

I think posters who start the same threads day after day and say the same things time and again have the potential to be bots , not trolls.
These are paid individuals trying to change other people's minds or create confusion. I meant it in jest but to be honest I am not sure.

Araminta1003 · 14/09/2024 09:50

@Zonder - specialist music schools are not businesses! You can gaslight all you like, they already have bursaries in place. They now have to charge VAT on previously assessed bursaries! Highly talented kids in ballet and music schools literally are going to have to be moved! It will only be for the very poor and very rich.
Now explain to me how that is socially mobile?

I'm very glad I voted Labour. It seems like boring grown-up politics has returned. I far prefer this.

The Conservatives were corrupt and venal. They should not be returned to power until they recognise this.

Araminta1003 · 14/09/2024 09:53

I am not too worried about the budget. They literally cannot do anything too drastic because it will kill economic growth.
They have instead chosen to stoke culture wars and target pensioners and school children instead, to make them look like they are sticking it to the rich. Their hands are entirely tied and the vulnerable in those categories are the victims! It is more right wing than left wing!

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 14/09/2024 09:54

@Araminta1003
It is certainly not ableist.
It is a comment on the huge number of people who have children with special educational needs on these private school threads, who appear to be the most vociferous on the adding VAT to private school fees issue.
There are I am sure many whose children have SEND who cannot afford the fees either with or without VAT. What about them?
