No questions the Tories were bad, but Labour are on another level.

Are you still happy you voted them in? Be honest now, you are having your doubts aren’t you?

If not, you really should be.

I think posters who start the same threads day after day and say the same things time and again have the potential to be bots , not trolls.
These are paid individuals trying to change other people's minds or create confusion. I meant it in jest but to be honest I am not sure.

Do you mean the op? You may as well say rather than imply as Mnhq can deal with it or your posts

I think a state education system that forces parents of children with any type of issues to have to seek a diagnosis to get a fair education somehow is absolutely BONKERS. And that appears to be where we are at as a society.

Notonthestairs · 14/09/2024 10:07

Now, now Pandora - you must answer questions so that right wing posters can denigrate your chosen reading material.

I've read the Times every day since 1997 (actually a bit earlier as I was given a free subscription at university). It didnt blinker me to the long term impact of austerity on public services and the Lansley reforms. Thank goodness Darzi has shone a light on it.
The idea that those problems will be fixed within a year is for the birds.

“Private schools - this has been done to death, but I am amazed at the number of people who have to use private school because of their SEND children. I am guessing that these children were never diagnosed as otherwise they'd have a ECHP and the local school would have to provide accessible education for them. ( I have no skin in this game as my children are all grown up). I feel that so many posters tie themselves up in knots about whether their children actually have SEND or don't in their efforts to tell everyone else VAT on school fees is wrong because of their children's issues. In my opinion it is a luxury, these are businesses so it makes sense they have VAT on their fees. Schools can and some will mitigate the effect by reducing fees.”

@Summernightsinthe21stcentury - this is very offensive and ableist.

My DS went to a one form entry church state school where they were able to control the environment for him, take him out to calm places and nurture him. He then went to a superselective grammar with a lot of highly able other boys who just want to learn and again they provided safe spaces.

The actual learning environment is absolutely critical for DC with SEND that are autism. The typical bustling huge comp with rigid rules, locked toilets etc and harsh discipline absolutely would not have worked for him. As a parent, I knew this.
We parents know what is best for our DC.
We do NOT NEED DADDY STARMER to tell us what to do!

I find your post quite offensive to be honest and refer back to my previous comments.

Most parents of SEND children don't have the money to send their child to "super selective" private schools to nurture them.

Even when they do, most private schools won't take SEND children with the kind of needs that means academic success is less likely.

Most parents have no choice but to have their SEND child educated in a "bustling huge comp with rigid rules, locked toilets etc and harsh discipline". Regardless of whether that works for their child.

I would rather support a government to invest in improving SEND provision through the state sector that will benefit all the children with SEND, than spend my time fighting for the select very few in the private sector who might have to change schools, and whose parents clearly have the £££ to support the child outside school.

Your posts about your "super gifted" ASD son in a "superselective grammar with a lot of highly able other boys who just want to learn" is completely tone deaf.

Labour has to deal with 14 years of mismanagement and corruption. So no, I don't think a year is too long at all. Probably too soon if anything. The effects of the budget will take a while to kick in, depending what is announced.

Araminta1003 · 14/09/2024 10:22

@CassieMaddox - you are tone deaf. Many parents in my situation if they do not have the grammar are now homeschooling, not sending to Comp!

And if you are forced to homeschool, then tax take will inevitably be lower. That is just a fact.

This is absolute nonsense but I guess if one has a kid in selective/private school one isn't going to fully be up to speed with how most schools work.

Teachers have to support children's educational needs regardless of whether or not they have a statement.

Lovely. Must be great to be financially secure enough to homeschool.

I know exactly how schools work @CassieMaddox - but you can keep trying to gaslight. We are not going away.

Many children are entirely miserable in the current state education system. Many are missing school and unhappy. The statistics back this up. Teachers are leaving in droves due to the working environment. Blaming it on private schools is not going to fix the fundamentals.
We need to start asking the right questions. Why are children miserable? Why are teachers miserable? Why can they not be individuals at school and fulfil themselves all? Why has it become such a problem?

@CassieMaddox - it must be so lovely to live in the UK and not some slum in Mumbai with no free education and healthcare!!!

Notonthestairs · 14/09/2024 10:35

The Conservatives didn't offer the public a general election after Truss so I can only assume you are hoping that Labour follow the Conservative example and shuffle in another leader.
If so I think you'll be hoping in vain.

Don't accuse me of gaslighting, thank you. It's very rude.

If a child is identified as having SEND the school are legally obligated to support them. The definition of SEND in a school context is not tied to a diagnosis/ certificate.

You are factually incorrect. That's not my fault and correcting the facts is not "gaslighting"

If you genuinely want to have a discussion, it is best not to be patronising. Otherwise people just stop engaging with you.
