No questions the Tories were bad, but Labour are on another level.

Are you still happy you voted them in? Be honest now, you are having your doubts aren’t you?

If not, you really should be.

Goodness. How could you tell the number of people in there who were alcohol dependent and not just drunk?

@soccermum41
’At the end of the day you are advocating for damaging education for some children when there are other ways of raising tax receipts. I contend that this is more about wanting to see people wealthier than you (including children) feel some pain/suffering/struggle/difficulty than it is about the wisdom of the economics of the decision or the value of the tax it will raise’

💯 Well said.

Agree. It's a pity we seem uniquely likely to vote this kind of policy in when looking at other countries.

I have just read through this thread this morning.

I see 3 main issues:-

  1. Private schools - this has been done to death, but I am amazed at the number of people who have to use private school because of their SEND children. I am guessing that these children were never diagnosed as otherwise they'd have a ECHP and the local school would have to provide accessible education for them. ( I have no skin in this game as my children are all grown up). I feel that so many posters tie themselves up in knots about whether their children actually have SEND or don't in their efforts to tell everyone else VAT on school fees is wrong because of their children's issues. In my opinion it is a luxury, these are businesses so it makes sense they have VAT on their fees. Schools can and some will mitigate the effect by reducing fees.
  2. NHS - This was also done to death before the election about how we just can't fling money at it without reform. Now he is saying no more money without reform and Starmer is now being hailed as the man to have broken the NHS. Interesting
  3. Prisoner release - this was already being done under the tories, and I recall around the week before the GE was called headlines about how our prisons were full. Then of course we had these horrible riots where people were bringing their children to participate and being egged on by SM nonsense. The hardline taken with these was absolutely justified, but it came with a consequence - the prisons were already full.

Maybe a fourth - WFA but now as pensions are to increase by more than the WFA amount due to the triple lock, and pensioners are being actively encouraged to find out if they are eligible and apply fro pension credit, this should mean it is not the issue people thought it would be.

Oh yes and the 34% voting labour at the last election - how many times does it have to be said that there was a huge push to GTTO, meaning the lib dems got a big benefit in many normally true blue seats in the South East, which is a reflection on just how badly the tory government have done over the past 14 years.

Let's give the new government a chance, stop reacting to traditional tory headlines in the newspapers, and see what the budget actually proposes before judging them on issues that have not happened yet.

Where did I say I am not a labour supporter?

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 12/09/2024 09:31

They are heaping bad policy decision on top of each other.

Just wait until the first old folk start perishing this winter. Truly appalling.

You know how many old and disabled people died from cold and hunger during the conservative era surely.
Saying that I do think the level needs to be much higher. I am happy for people on an average pension income not to need fuel payments but poorer people do need it.

Tbf it's not just the mn motto right wing press but The Guardian and probably others are taking aim at Labour

It's really mn that has 'don't bash Labour' theme going on still.

Resorting to calling those that don't agree with you bots, how expected

Who is a bot?

On every thread a Labour poster posts about 'bots' this that's for sure. Probably the same posters piping up with that one.

They must just stick to those pro Labour threads though as if they actually read anywhere else they'd see their beloved party has loads of people saying the same or more.

Are you saying all these anti labour posts popping up (when he same didn't happen with Al the Tory dross that was going on) are genuine people wondering what is going on? So many of the posts popping up aren't even trying to keep to facts.

I think people are a little insulated if they think these posts are problematic and the only way to respond is with 'bot'

Perhaps they really don't read anywhere else. Don't worry about it, look at some other press and see outside mn and see what people are saying without the bot accusers

CreateUserNames · 14/09/2024 09:04

This labour government wants to show they are strong party by not listening. He’s mimicking Thartcher style, but doesn’t have her wits. Stammer sounds super irritable, standing there in his comfort, telling people what should and shouldn’t be. He’s there to serve, not to parent. Are there anyone benefit from labour so far? No one.

So funny. You told me I should read other threads than just labour ones, even though I post on all sorts of threads and the one I guess you're talking about isn't even a pro labour thread it's more of an anti corruption in government thread and now you're suggesting more posters don't read anywhere else.

I think your crystal ball is broken.

You're not going to respond to @Summernightsinthe21stcentury 's points?

The WFA decision is a disaster and needs re-thinking.

The prisoner release is a situation not of Labour's making, it is the result of 14 years of neglect of the prison system.

VAT on school fees seems fair enough to me.

I am dubious about reforming the NHS yet again, but on the other had if Starmer announced a big injection of cash with no strings attached he would be attacked for that too.

Labour has been in charge for two and a half months. It is far too soon to judge them.

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 14/09/2024 09:09

It was meant as a little joke, hence the crossing out. No sense of humour it would seem. And yes I have read many things from different sources thanks. Quite well educated actually, in fact a higher rate tax payer as well.
