My God I hated Thatcjer and all she stood for .. but at least I think she was honourable in her beliefs even if they were not mine .. but THIS LOT .. from BOJO onwards what a bunch of grifters ..

And before anyone says 'they are all the same ' .. I really don't think so ... At least in the 'lining their own pockets ' agenda .. AIBU to think this ?

I thought Austria should've done better.

Are we talking Eurovision?
If so I thought the UK entry showing people climbing the wall in a dirty public toilet was somehow symbolic of how people feel like their climbing the wall in a dirty public toilet in the UK under the Tories.

Zonder · 12/05/2024 08:03

Their they're

EasternStandard · 12/05/2024 08:30

Going by the Eurovision thread which seems to be more about hashing over the Israel / Palestine conflict it’ll be interesting to see what is being covered on SM in the coming years as things intensify globally

Zonder · 12/05/2024 08:31

You must have been on a different Eurovision thread from me. I followed the two where people were commenting all night on the acts and it was all about the acts.

EasternStandard · 12/05/2024 08:37

Different threads is 🙌

Crikeyalmighty · 12/05/2024 08:38

@Zonder UKs entry said it all about the UK ( I work in music too) - bad production, sleazy delivery , sound guy asleep at the wheel and a performer who was poor live-

Winning song was totally unmemorable dross too - but then its all about 'image' and 'message' these days I feel- not the actual 'so g' and a non binary person in frilly skirt is very 'on trend'

Zonder · 12/05/2024 08:59

Hmm, hard to see why we did so badly then 😂
I think camp / non-binary / LGBTQ might be very Eurovision but it appears cottaging in dirty toilets isn't!

@EasternStandard interesting that your take home message from those threads was that they were more about Israel / Palestine. There were a few pages in the last third of the last of the three threads where a few people are arguing about that subject while other people keep the euro conversation going around them. Very little of it on the first two threads.

I guess sometimes we see what suits our agenda.

I looked at that thread late last night, I’ve linked the one I read. It may be different to yours 🙌

And yes there are political posts on it. If you can’t see them for whatever reason 🤷‍♀️

EasternStandard · 12/05/2024 09:21

The ‘agenda’ thing is an interesting line of come back though

Do people think we are not going into an increased period of strain and volatility globally?

What are people expecting in terms of resources / pressures / climate etc and how people will respond in terms of movement and conflict

I’d say there’s a disconnect in what is likely and what we’re talking about generally. It seems strange to lack the language when projections are as they are

There are a few starting to talk about it, on R4 the other day which is good. Even if people want to deal with it differently at least look at the options realistically

Zonder · 12/05/2024 09:23

The link you sent was the third in the series of threes threads I followed last night.

I literally said There were a few pages in the last third of the last of the three threads where a few people are arguing about that subject while other people keep the euro conversation going around them.

If you read that as me saying I cant see political posts on the one you sent, well I can only think you didn't read my response to you. By far most of the posts on those three connected threads were not political.

And the latest threats of nuclear war if Labour win....I've never known such a bunch of charlatans in my life

Churchview · 15/05/2024 10:03

They are so predictable. They have nothing to offer - literally nothing - so they are going to try to frighten people into voting for them.

Given they absence of any evidence that they've done anything to look after the people of this country in 14 years, how can they portray themselves as 'a pair of safe hands' now?

They, and the media that support them, must think we're as thick as shit with no memories.

verdantverdure · 19/06/2024 20:28

We're literally having a party on election night 😁 and we live somewhere very leafy and until pretty recently it would probably have been considered a Tory safe seat.

Have you forgotten everything since? Blair and Brown are no longer in parliament. We've had a Tory government for the past 14 years.

They wrecked the place.🫣

Pippippip2024 · 19/06/2024 21:03

@TooBigForMyBoots no it’s absolutely awful! I’m just saying that I’m also not happy about Labour getting in. (I’m allowed to detest both you know 😉)

Did Keir Starmer serve in Iraq?

Did Keir Starmer serve in Iraq?

Maybe But Jeremy Corbyn did.

BitOutOfPractice · 20/06/2024 07:53

God Sunak must be absolutely desperate for this to be over now. Every morning there’s more nail-in-the-coffin headlines.

This morning it’s more gambling allegations (sleeze / corruption / shady dealings) and interest rates staying at 5.25% (economy not recovering / COL).

every morning it’s the same.

I noticed in particular that, for the first time I can remember since inflation has been high, that journalists yesterday were routinely and repeatedly explaining that, although the inflation figure had gone down, this doesn’t mean prices have continued to rise, nor will they come down again. I know that’s reasonably obvious to the economically literate / numerate but I have genuinely never heard anyone say it before, let alone repeatedly.

This. Who exactly are they supposed to be starting a nuclear war with and why?

What a load of rubbish. I will feel far safer with Healey in charge.

Grant Shapps, the former photocopier salesman with a dodgy web business. Good grief. Still, an improvement on “Putin should shut up and go away, look at my big, scary tarantula, aren’t I hard?” Williamson. Bloody jokes, both.

Yep. Hilarious. Enjoying every moment.

Crikeyalmighty · 20/06/2024 10:22

@MrsSkylerWhite precisely- I will take the mid sized sensible corporate lawyer business type of Starmer/Reeves anyday over the bloody weirdos we've had in recent years- I actually don't think Sunak is a bad bloke, although I don't agree with him politically on most things- I just think he's out of touch and out of his depth- but the team below him - well- a bunch of oddball fruitcakes - I wouldn't employ any of them

BitOutOfPractice · 20/06/2024 11:31

Oh don't get me wrong @MrsSkylerWhite I'm loving it too!

I'm usually the person who sees a new update alert on my phone and thinks, "Bloody hell, what have this bunch of useless idiots (polite version) been up to now?" Imagine how Sunak's heart must sink when he sees it now. Oh, it's just terrific!
