Is Angela Raynor a liar or is it all anti Labour media bias?

CormorantStrikesBack · 10/03/2024 12:33

I’m well aware how anti Labour a lot of the main stream media seem to be so I wasn’t paying much attention previously to all the stuff about how she should have paid capital gains tax on her house, etc. she was adamant that she didn’t need to.

So it seems like she said it was her main residence so not liable for capital gains tax. But her husband and kids lived in a house a short distance away apparently for the first five years of their marriage which is unusual. A neighbour who lived next to her “husband’s” house said it was the main family home and Angela definitely lived there.

I’ll be sad if she has lied. Always thought she was on the side of the ordinary person. I guess the police/tax man might have a hard time proving anything though regardless of the neighbour’s statement. If all bills, etc were in the individual names there’s no evidence.

There was all the dodgy BP contracts with Sunak as well wasn’t there? His family firm gets given a contract worth millions by BP and then a very short time afterwards Sunak announces the granting of licenses for more drilling in the North Sea. Very much gives a vibe of “if you do what we want we will give you a load of money”. But I’m sure legally it’s all allowed. Stinks though.

There isn’t a shred of evidence that Sunak’s father in law’s deal (Infosys with BP) has anything to do with drilling licensing. Yet another smear.

VanCleefArpels · 29/03/2024 08:19

Those saying the police have ruled there was no offence committed: they have been asked to look again re electoral law breaches.

Those relying on the tax advice she was given and now relies on: any professional advice is only as good as the instructions given by the client. If the client tells the accountant X was my main residence then of course they will advise no CGT was payable. It doesn’t necessarily mean that statement was in fact true.

Those saying “well the Tories are worse” should give their heads a wobble. All elected officials should be held to exactly the same standards. You know that if this was any Tory MP they would have been hounded out by now.

AR has painted herself into an easily disprovable corner here. Neighbour evidence is compelling in my view. And the implausibility that a husband and wife with small children would live at separate addresses.

pointythings · 29/03/2024 08:43

@VanCleefArpels they've been asked by a Tory MP. Politicians shouldn't be able to tell the police what to investigate and what not to investigate. That in itself is corrupt. It's Keir's Beer all over again - second investigation at the behest of the Tories - nothing found. I get that you aren't happy at how much trouble the Tories are in, but they're going too far.

Tel12 · 29/03/2024 08:47

I think that it's all media hype. Look at at what Johnson's done and that is ok. Tory donors with knighthoods today and there's no uproar. It's all about the spin.

BloodyHellKenAgain · 29/03/2024 08:55

I really don't know what to think. Of course the Torys will try and make something out of it, its their job to. Hopefully, the truth will come out eventually if she has actually done anything illegal. I hope she hasn't.

I heard her being interviewed yesterday morning on Radio 4 and she was amazing. She really stood her ground and got her message across.
I have a huge amount of respect for AR, but I couldn't vote for her as I've lost all faith in the Labour Party.

And all the posters saying if she has done anything wrong then it pales into insignificance compared to the Torys etc etc....well in the words of my dad, two wrongs don't make a right.

Itsonlymashadow · 29/03/2024 08:55

I don’t understand why people are going down the ‘maybe she got bad advice’

I have never had 2 homes and know CGT is a an issue selling a home that isn’t a main residence. She knew whether she did or didn’t live there. If she didn’t live there why was she pretending she did? And who actually lived there? If she rented it out there has to be a trace of that. Or was she renting it out without the proper contracts for the tenant? So there’s potential problems there.

If she didn’t live there and no one lived there, why would she keep it so long? And why pretend to live there? Non of that is ‘listening to bad advice’. It’s making choices to get the desired outcome.

If she didn’t live there and was pretending she did she knew what she was doing was wrong. Not sure anyone will believe she didn’t live with her husband or children.

But I do also think this is only an issue now because of the GE. And I bet someone knew this for quite a while and sat on it.

I also don’t think the Tories are any better. However, that doesn’t make this ok.

How much tax should Rishis wife pay? How many goodies made millions from Covid? Is that Boris’s sister or (illegitimate) daughter who he made a peer and now has a job for life - the world renowned liar.

This is a non issue.

TizerorFizz · 29/03/2024 09:00

Labour donors don’t get knighthoods then? They absolutely do!

Most married couples are allowed one marital house for tax purposes. Another house, for any reason is a second house. It might be rented out, a holiday home or a work flat. When it’s sold it attracts CGT. Therefore any owners of such properties should pay CGT when they sell and not cover up and lie where they are living. AR appears to have lied. As a married woman, she and DH were allowed a single tax free marital home. Like everyone else. She’s squirming and deflecting but she just needs to pay up and shut up. If she had paid up initially, then she would not have attracted comment.

Angela Rayner uses her working class roots and tragic sob story to connect with the working class yet she is as fake as they come and would throw her own Grandmother under the bus for power and status. She has zero qualifications and has grifted her way to the top with her working class rhetoric of solidarity. She is the pot calling the kettle black and as her neighbour said a "f*ING liar". Exploiting working class people with her vain "look at me, I am so hard done to like you" bs is just despicable. She is worse than any Tory because she is the great pretender, they don't fake it to make it rich and powerful.

Right which is it?

Either she has zero qualifications and has working class roots (well documented) and yet has truthfully got where she is while saying look at me, I'm just like you (which seems to be true?)

Or she's the great pretender, is fake and has lied her way.

Which is it?

None of these has anything to do with wrongdoing, and the Boris’s daughter rumour is about as substantial as any other wild conspiracy theory.

I am in awe at the organised falsehoods so successfully pushed by Labour.

anniegun · 29/03/2024 09:07

It is a witch hunt by a rabid Tory press. If there was a liability it was a tiny amount and could easily have been nothing. In her circumstances at that time there is no way she would have understood the rules but it was such a small potential amount to pay who cares. The focus on this rather than Zahawi, Hunt and all the Tory tax dodgers is so wrong

CurlewKate · 29/03/2024 09:07

Your final sentence is so far from the truth it’s risible, but you crack in with making assumptions about strangers eh?

And for the record, anyone can report a crime. If you think that reporters of crime don’t sometimes have an agenda against the individual reported then you are at best naive. If your argument is that only uninterested parties have the right to report criminal
conduct then I can’t help you.

Rishi Sunaks father in laws company has just received a 3 billion NHS contract

Rachel Reeves got her parliamentary credit card removed because of so many dodgy expenses and they want to make her chancellor 😂

theyre all shit

Here you go @CurlewKate here's an example. Oh wait...

If the truth has definitely come out then why was she being interviewed about it on the Radio yesterday and why is it still being investigated?

I'd like to see some concrete evidence either way.

Teentaxidriver · 29/03/2024 09:16

She is a hypocrite. Not content with 25% discount, she thought she’d help herself to paying zero CHT. Greedy and lying. Just like Michelle Mone.

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 29/03/2024 09:18

I wasn’t aware that Sunak’s father-in-law’s massive international IT company, which has contracts with many huge organisations, had an NHS contract. Do tell us all the details about the tendering, oversight, track record and viable competitors.

Otherwise it looks like you’re both suggesting that NHS procurement officials are corrupt and that Infosys is some sham outfit.

Teentaxidriver · 29/03/2024 09:18

She has got where she is by working the trade unions.

LanahLane · 29/03/2024 09:19

Tory slur and desperate.

BBC talked about one of her ‘crimes’ being that she was registered to vote from her old address….

Come on, the Tories have deprived the police of so much funding, that the police are unable to investigate burglary, sex offences, anti social behaviour, knife crime, car theft…etc etc, yet the local Tory MP has asked the police to reopen the investigation into AR’s erroneous vote….

My DC is dealing with the attempted and frustrated theft and burning out of his new car, likely, given the car, stolen to order. The police haven't the resources to even attempt to find those responsible and make them accountable.

And just think of the crimes some Tory MP’s are being investigated for….
They are a disgrace.
