Is Angela Raynor a liar or is it all anti Labour media bias?

1000 replies

CormorantStrikesBack · 10/03/2024 12:33

I’m well aware how anti Labour a lot of the main stream media seem to be so I wasn’t paying much attention previously to all the stuff about how she should have paid capital gains tax on her house, etc. she was adamant that she didn’t need to.

So it seems like she said it was her main residence so not liable for capital gains tax. But her husband and kids lived in a house a short distance away apparently for the first five years of their marriage which is unusual. A neighbour who lived next to her “husband’s” house said it was the main family home and Angela definitely lived there.

I’ll be sad if she has lied. Always thought she was on the side of the ordinary person. I guess the police/tax man might have a hard time proving anything though regardless of the neighbour’s statement. If all bills, etc were in the individual names there’s no evidence.

@WhatsTheUseOfWorrying

Theresa May: xenophobic 'Citizens of Nowhere' rhetoric and 'Go Home'/ hostile environment campaign.

Priti Patel: Known for bullying staff, illicit dealings with Israel while in post.

Suella Braverman: Vile anti immigrant rhetoric. Responsible for the Bibby Stockholm policy, supports the Rwanda policy.

Liz Truss: Completely incompetent in running the economy, spooked the market with uncosted tax cuts and cost mortgage holders a fortune.

Margaret Thatcher: Implemented Right to Buy policy in the first place and permanently distorted the housing market. Anti union legislation. Rabid free marketeer.

Angela Rayner hasn't been in government. Your examples all have. It is valid and reasonable to criticise their policies, and most people on these threads who oppose the Tories would have said the same thing had they been enacted by men.

Completely misses the point.

If you disagree with their policies and actions, knock yourself out.

The issue was misogyny.

Media bias.

Yup. Not nearly enough attention paid to the bad stuff of the incoming government.

Jesus christ. They are ALL as bad as each other - just because she sounds like she is about to have a scrap in the local pub doesn't mean she is immune from taking the piss. Her and Lee Anderson are both sides of the same coin.. trotted out to be the 'voice' of the common plebs.

She is embarrassing and her conduct on twitter is awful.

This. It actually scares me that she could be deputy PM. Awful, awful woman.

Shes typical Labour, a do as i say not as i do hypocrite! At least we all know that we are voting in selfish, money grabbing liars if we vote Tory 🤷‍♀️. Labour are wolves in sheep's clothing!

Probably another Kier Starmer's takeaway curry non crime.

Indeed it was, and you are assuming that May et al are criticised by misogynists. They probably are, in part, but they are also rightfully and heavily criticised because of the things they have done while actually in power. Their sex does not exempt them from scrutiny of their actions.

Angela Rayner may or may not have done something wrong - the jury is still very much out. But she isn't in government, and context is everything: the things Boris Johnson said to her about crossing her legs, the things said on this thread disparaging her background and her rise to power, the things said more widely on Mumsnet criticising her for not being typical female politics fodder because she's loud, outspoken and not a typical middle class female - all of that is misogyny. Let's not forget that the police have already investigated her and found nothing, and if you're saying that this current affair is not politically motivated then you're either very naive or hypocritical.

Just another example of politicians and their 'don't do as I do, do as I say' approach to us. All parties are the same and none impress, with the only way to rate them being a scale of less awful!

Not more of this "they are all the same" sh*te.
They are not.

crowgift · 29/03/2024 17:36

It seems that we hold the Labour party to higher standards, assuming that of course Conservatives will give contracts to friends, diddle their taxes on a grand scale etc. to the extent that it just slides off them.

CurlewKate · 29/03/2024 17:36

I think we agree. Whether or not Rayner has lied, she should be free of misogynistic attacks. If she has lied, well….

That is what the previous poster said…..that whether or not she had lied she should be free of misogynistic attacks. Which I fully agree with.

As do I, but the fact remains that the attack on Angela Rayner over this is purely politically motivated, and that should be acknowledged.

You are right, I read it as a 'but' that wasn't there

CormorantStrikesBack · 29/03/2024 19:19

I’m sure it is politically motivated. But if she’s done something wrong that doesn’t mean it should be ignored just because it’s Tories who have clamoured for it to be brought to light. I’m sure Boris said the Partygate investigation was politically motivated.

So the attacks on Tory women aren’t politically motivated?

God give me strength.

Criticising policies does not equate to a politically motivated attack. Nobody is setting the police on the Tory women after all, especially not politicians. That is where the political motivation lies - it's an attempt by a terrified ruling party to smear a prominent member of the opposition. I'm a little surprised that you do not understand this distinction.

As I've said before, if I were to say that Suella Braverman supported the Rwanda policy because she's just a stupid woman then that would be misogyny. I wouldn't dream of saying that. I criticise Braverman for supporting that policy because it is immoral and will be ineffective. Get it now?

I agree, but this is not the Tories caring about law and justice. If they did, they would be taking steps to act against the two married MPs who are claiming a flat each, to the tune of £250,000 a year of taxpayers' money. This is a party about to lose power doing everything possible to smear the opposition.

If it turns out Rayner broke the rules, she should absolutely pay back CGT. I have no problem with that. But it should not be the case that an MP or a national paper can just tell the police what to investigate and what not to investigate.

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 29/03/2024 22:38

It’s all gone silent from the Labour shills.

Annettekurtin · 29/03/2024 22:43

TooBigForMyBoots · 29/03/2024 15:19

No, I don't think they would.

That AR is a woman is a big part of the misogynist hate campaign she has faced from the Tory Party. She was investigated and cleared. Now she is being investigated again at the request of the Deputy of the Conservatives.

It's nasty, it's desperate and it's a witch hunt but they get away with it because she's a woman and it appeals to part of their electorate.

I don’t think it’s anything to do with her being a woman. Plenty of male MPs have been investigated for wrongdoing including tax evasion such as sajid javid. It’s neither “nasty” nor “desperate” to investigate serious documented wrongdoing by a senior politician.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 29/03/2024 22:46

Not true at all. Dan Neidle who exposed Angela Rayner previously exposed Sajid Javid. It’s not ok for any politician to cheat the system.
