Is Angela Raynor a liar or is it all anti Labour media bias?

CormorantStrikesBack · 10/03/2024 12:33

I’m well aware how anti Labour a lot of the main stream media seem to be so I wasn’t paying much attention previously to all the stuff about how she should have paid capital gains tax on her house, etc. she was adamant that she didn’t need to.

So it seems like she said it was her main residence so not liable for capital gains tax. But her husband and kids lived in a house a short distance away apparently for the first five years of their marriage which is unusual. A neighbour who lived next to her “husband’s” house said it was the main family home and Angela definitely lived there.

I’ll be sad if she has lied. Always thought she was on the side of the ordinary person. I guess the police/tax man might have a hard time proving anything though regardless of the neighbour’s statement. If all bills, etc were in the individual names there’s no evidence.

Look even at this list from the Lib Dem's last year. It's full of fraud:

We know that the police are not relevant to the CGT.

as far as electoral law goes:

the Crown Prosecution Service say.

“The principal purpose of the relevant legislation is to maintain not only the integrity and probity of the electoral process but public confidence in it. Proceedings for major infringements will normally be in the public interest.
Proceedings for other infringements may not be in the public interest in situations where:

  • the offence is of a ‘technical’ nature which does not infringe the spirit of the legislation;
  • the offence was committed as a result of a genuine mistake or misunderstanding;
  • the offence could not have influenced the result of the election process”

Her statement

Angela Rayner says she will "do the right thing and step down" if she has committed a criminal offence over council house claims

Is Angela Raynor a liar or is it all anti Labour media bias?
Merrymouse · 12/04/2024 19:18

Anyway BBC now says Rayner has promised to resign if found guilty of tax evasion, as people should have leaders who believe that the rules apply to them.

At this point I think she knows the Tories look ridiculous.

DuncinToffee · 12/04/2024 19:19

She shows she understands integrity and takes that very serious

Zonder · 12/04/2024 16:34

Ah yes of course.

If in doubt resort to Whataboutery.

OP: what do you think of Rayner’s troubles?

Labour posters: But, but, but Johnson, Sunak’s family, Covid contracts, Donelan.

Tory posters: Well, um, if you look at Labour’s record…

Labour posters: NO WHATABOUTERY!

Zonder · 12/04/2024 20:10

Actually @WhatsTheUseOfWorrying a lot of the non Tories on here have posted sensible posts pointing out facts about why AR isn't necessarily a corrupt criminal. Did you miss all those?

What if she’s charged with a different offence?

On ridiculous, Rayner demanded that the Tory candidate in Hartlepool publish her full tax details, because she’d lived in the Cayman Islands. With her ex-husband. Who is a barrister. Who was in the Cayman Islands as head of banking supervision combatting money laundering.

But Rayner won’t disclose her own tax details. No hypocrisy to see here, oh no.

DuncinToffee · 12/04/2024 20:42

She has disclosed her tax details to the relevant offices, no need to show them to the DM

They already published her son's birth certificate

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 12/04/2024 20:53

Alexandra2001 · 12/04/2024 19:10

Are witches CGT exempt? Are they also exempt from electoral law? Are they incapable of telling lies?

The Police were asked to investigate AR & Electoral fraud, following a complaint, they said nothing to see BUT a Tory Deputy chair has ordered the Police to reconsider & investigate.

That is what i find most worrying, you or i, if say burgled, would not be able to tell the Police what to do, yet a tory MP can, why is that?

Its all very wrong, the Police should do their job without fear nor favour, yet the incumbent Govt can dictate which allegations they investigate or not.... put it another way, would you be happy if the Police wanted to investigate a Tory MP for electoral fraud but this Daly character stepped in and told the Police not too?

Rayner has said she'll stand down if found guilty, if only you Tories were so honourable.

Edited

That’s nonsense. The MP asked the police to look further. The police haven’t been ordered to do anything.

Honourable? Labour? You’re heading for a fall there I think.

What do you mean “the relevant offices”? Rayner wanted public disclosure by others. Why does that not apply to her?

DuncinToffee · 12/04/2024 21:03

And did anyone publicly publish their tax records on Rayner's request?

Not as far as I know. But that’s a novel way to deny AR’s hypocrisy.

DuncinToffee · 12/04/2024 21:16

Hypocrisy is not a crime

IClaudine · 12/04/2024 22:01

This is a win win situation for non-Tory supporters.

If AR is found to have done nothing wrong, Tories will spit blood. Cry foul, etc. Fun to watch.

If she is found to have broken the law and steps down, it will not reflect well on all the corrupt Tories that have hung on to their posts and /or seats. The squirming will be fun to watch.

Happy days!

ETA: I se the ground is already being laid for crying foul with But Andy Burnham. Idiots.

Houseplanter · 12/04/2024 22:04

Can't stand her and this just goes to show they are all as corrupt as one another.

I won't be voting at this rate.

Good oh. Everyone who doesn't vote helps kick the Tories out.

I think we need to be really careful spreading this message.

Every GE people start talking about how non voters help kick the tories out. Or go on about how we should tactile vote, because that will definitely get the Tories out. And yet, it never does.

It's a really sad state of affairs when you are glad people feel all options are so shit, they can't vote. Instead of being actually decent another GE won by someone who isn't good enough to get in. Just gets in by technicality. Brilliant 🙄

newnamethanks · 12/04/2024 22:35

Bloody Angela Rayner. Strutting around taking up a space that properly belongs to a person like Wragge or Pincher or Bozza, people who know how to behave in the Tory Way. She's getting above herself. How dare she? How much was the bung from the Dianne Abbot insulter? £5million? Proper money not petty cash. She just doesn't get it. Stone her.

Well I wasn't being entirely serious.

I agree that it is not good that people feel so disheartened that they won't vote. I disagree with you about tactical voting, though. It will get the Tories out and until we have proportional representation, tactical voting is a must.

It would be a win-win for Starmer, certainly. He would get rid of a liability who’s generally regarded within Labour as talentless and good only as a Tory-baiter when in opposition. He can’t sack her because the position is voted on by party members - who put her in because she’s on the Labour left.

Plus Starmer would get the benefit of a Labour left winger biting the dust (though probably temporarily).

Rayner is fab, I personally love it that she's on his front bench. She's the opposite of a liability. If she was a liability the Tories wouldn't be trying so hard to get rid of her.
