Is Angela Raynor a liar or is it all anti Labour media bias?

1000 replies

CormorantStrikesBack · 10/03/2024 12:33

I’m well aware how anti Labour a lot of the main stream media seem to be so I wasn’t paying much attention previously to all the stuff about how she should have paid capital gains tax on her house, etc. she was adamant that she didn’t need to.

So it seems like she said it was her main residence so not liable for capital gains tax. But her husband and kids lived in a house a short distance away apparently for the first five years of their marriage which is unusual. A neighbour who lived next to her “husband’s” house said it was the main family home and Angela definitely lived there.

I’ll be sad if she has lied. Always thought she was on the side of the ordinary person. I guess the police/tax man might have a hard time proving anything though regardless of the neighbour’s statement. If all bills, etc were in the individual names there’s no evidence.

What's odd is the sheer number of Tories who have not paid tax eg by dozens sending money to Panama to hide it and claiming family non dom status, plus the paying contracts to their mates fiasco (eg Covid) versus Angela Rayner "might" not have paid £1500. It's pathetic and it's aimed to distract and smear. They really are desperate.

That’s all true, so far as tax avoidance goes. But it is a bit pathetic that a Tory can’t sneeze without being called corrupt, lying etc, but when a Labour politician’s conduct gets called into question it’s all ok, unimportant, whatever.

Reminds me of Blair’s sycophantic fans swallowing the “I’m a pretty straight sort of guy” excuse.

And it does all depend on whether not paying tax is lawful or unlawful.

There’s no evidence of corrupt government Covid contracts.

Clavinova · 07/04/2024 19:39

Zonder
Why is that odd? It's what Sunak and Hunt do all the time

Silly me - I thought Keir Starmer had portrayed himself as some sort of moral crusader:

Starmer said that if he was Prime Minister he would “make it a priority to clean up Westminster,” and that he knows “what tough decisions to clean up public life look like” as a result of his time as director of public prosecutions when he had to decide whether to prosecute MPs over expenses claims.

"We'll need to clean up politics" - "nobody will be above the law in a Britain that I lead"

Zonder · 07/04/2024 19:43

Oh Clav, bless you. Here you go clutching at straws again. Surely even you can't deny the lies of soooo many Tory MPs? It's a different order of magnitude from practically any other government of any party in my living memory. But you just keep going with that whataboutery eh?

@WhatsTheUseOfWorrying "That’s all true, so far as tax avoidance goes. But it is a bit pathetic that a Tory can’t sneeze without being called corrupt, lying etc,"

That's probably because most of them-particularly those in the Cabinet-cannot sneeze without.... etc etc

You must have a very poor memory - at least five Labour MPs from the last Labour government were convicted of fraud/false accounting and sent to prison. A sixth Labour MP only escaped a prison sentence because she suffered a severe mental health breakdown when her crime was discovered (she claimed £53,000 in false expenses).

you just keep going with that whataboutery eh?

Why are you posting about Sunak, Hunt and the Tories? The topic of this thread is Angela Rayner and therefore Labour. You are the one posting whataboutery.

DuncinToffee · 07/04/2024 20:19

Those 5 were found guilty of fraud and punished accordingly, nobody is arguing about that?

I honestly think all politicians have their hands in the pot. They can’t help it. It’s too easy.

pointythings · 07/04/2024 20:42

@Clavinova what we also remember about those 5 Labour MPs is that this was 14 years ago. And of course we remember that you are unable to condemn a Tory for any wrongdoing at all, ever.

There I beg to differ. Mine was a fact-based, finely crafted submission. Yours was a yobbish insult shouted by an unruly heckler.

Well actually, the 5th Labour MP was convicted in November 2013 (the fraud was committed during the Labour government) and it was Zonder who made the comparison with "any other government of any party in [her] living memory" -

but never mind, former Labour MP Jared O'Mara was jailed for expenses fraud last year if you want a more recent example;

Angela Rayner keeps going on about '15 years ago' when we all know she sold her property in 2015.

Oh dear Clav, you seem to have missed the bit where I said it was a different order of magnitude. So you have managed to come up with 5 - that's FIVE - labour MPs who were duly punished. There are somewhat more than 5 Tory MPs guilty of worse and most have received no punishment. Young Wragg actually got a congratulations from Hunt for a semi apology.

Perhaps you could look up what different order of magnitude means.

Please list the present Tories who have been proven to have engaged in massive fraud or theft. Extra points for proven Covid contract fraud by ministers.

If you want some Labour venality and dishonesty on a grand scale you could always look at cash for influence, which dates from 2010, i.e. the final year of Labour’s last term in office.

Zonder · 07/04/2024 22:54

Oh I really don't have time to make that list for you. Google is your friend. It's bedtime here.

Zonder · 07/04/2024 22:55

And frankly @WhatsTheUseOfWorrying I'm laughing at the thought of you pointing the finger at Labour for cash for influence when Michelle Money is the tip of the recent Tory iceberg!

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 07/04/2024 23:19

I’ll take that as a ‘can’t’ then

Be a bit careful re Mone, contempt of court and all that.

IClaudine · 07/04/2024 23:40

The Tories (a.k.a Dead Party Walking) will set plenty of 🐿 🐿 🐿 running between now and when ever Sunak finds his balls and calls a GE.

Until then, best to ignore.

The Dead Party Walking is very true.

Pointing out Labour falsehoods and misconduct is still worthwhile though. I’m waiting for the first big scandal of many in the inevitable three terms of Labour. When “but Boris…” comes out again and again and again I’ll have a right old laugh at the ‘moral’ party.

Good point - I'll take your advice. It's all a bit desperate on the Tory front.
