Is Angela Raynor a liar or is it all anti Labour media bias?

1000 replies

CormorantStrikesBack · 10/03/2024 12:33

I’m well aware how anti Labour a lot of the main stream media seem to be so I wasn’t paying much attention previously to all the stuff about how she should have paid capital gains tax on her house, etc. she was adamant that she didn’t need to.

So it seems like she said it was her main residence so not liable for capital gains tax. But her husband and kids lived in a house a short distance away apparently for the first five years of their marriage which is unusual. A neighbour who lived next to her “husband’s” house said it was the main family home and Angela definitely lived there.

I’ll be sad if she has lied. Always thought she was on the side of the ordinary person. I guess the police/tax man might have a hard time proving anything though regardless of the neighbour’s statement. If all bills, etc were in the individual names there’s no evidence.

@ThePeppyFawn I know plenty the UK's past, I've lived here for a long time. @ForPeachWriter doesn't live here and is clearly unaware of how much damage the Tories have done to our country in the past 14 years.

Fortunately they'll be out of office this year and will be for a long time. The Tories are a mess.

pointythings · 05/04/2024 07:31

It really isn't disingenuous. Labour MPs rebelled against their own government. Tory MPs did not rebel. That is fact. Of course Blair is largely responsible, but this pp is whitewashing the Tories, which is a pack of lies.

This 2003 Guardian article is a bit odd then;

An added factor was the increase in Tory rebels, which weakened the government's majority of 194 last time round.

The first vote of the night was on the rebel amendment - stating that a case for war now was "not yet established" - was won by the government by 396 votes to 217, a majority of 179.

In the end, despite a total of total of seven resignation from the government, and three from the Tory shadow cabinet, a defeat for the prime minister was never in question...

Assuming that Guardian article is accurate - and I accept that the press does get things wrong, not least the Guardian - it does really torpedo any argument that the Iraq war and aftermath isn’t Labour’s alone.

pointythings · 05/04/2024 18:56

@Clavinova interesting that you focus on the vote on the amendment rather than on the final vote without the amendment, where only (granted, not none) 2 Conservative MPs voted No.

Zonder · 05/04/2024 19:12

Good point there @pointythings

Not really - you posted;
Tory MPs did not rebel and the Guardian article says Tory rebels

There's another article here;

I’ve never regretted being one of 16 Tory MPs who voted against the Iraq War

I thought Tony Blair lied to his cabinet and parliament? He certainly misled them.

Yes. I’m interested in tax and public understanding of tax.

In that case, do you know anything about lettings relief? I see that the rules were changed in 2020, but if Angela Rayner's brother was a tenant at Vicarage Road how much relief could she have claimed? Of course, that doesn't help her with the electoral register if she was living at Lowndes Lane, or the fact that she should have informed her mortgage provider. Also, how would rental income have affected tax credits if she was claiming them at the time?

Angela Rayner tweeted that she had never been a 'landlady' but I'm wondering if she took exception to the term 'landlady' and would have tweeted differently if she had been described as a 'landlord'.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/04/2024 20:22

Boris Johnson lied to parliament, his cabinet, his party, the country and the Queen. And his employers. And the people who voted for him.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/04/2024 20:24

Ooh, and his wives.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/04/2024 20:24

And the press.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/04/2024 20:27

And the police.

Zonder · 05/04/2024 20:29

Was there anyone he didn't lie to, @TooBigForMyBoots ? His dog, maybe?

It's so amusing how some Tory fans just find one little thing to harp on about and ignore the gazillion bigger things in their own party. Something about a speck and a log?

Edited

Didn't Keir Starmer spout some guff about his Labour government being different - something about honesty and accountability etc? Has Starmer U-turned again?

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 05/04/2024 20:32

Blair spent over ten years lying in as many ways as he could think of. But that got re-labelled ‘spin’, and was acceptable to the left.

Clavinova · 05/04/2024 20:41

It's a bit odd that Keir Starmer says he has “full confidence" in Angela Rayner when he hasn't even seen the tax/legal advice himself.

According to Sir Keir;
“Angela has answered I don’t know how many questions about this" - doesn't he think her answers sound dodgy and evasive? Everyone else does.

DuncinToffee · 05/04/2024 20:49

If Rayner is found gulty, surely all she has to do next is apologising so a line can be drawn under.

Works for Tory MP's

CurlewKate · 05/04/2024 20:51

"Boris Johnson lied to parliament, his cabinet, his party, the country and the Queen. And his employers. And the people who voted for him"

But her emails......

Clavinova · 05/04/2024 20:52

Oh, here we go - never fear, Keir is here;

Jan 2023
Sir Keir Starmer has committed a Labour government to publishing the tax returns of the prime minister, chancellor and deputy prime minister.

In a sign of his determination to “clean up” Westminster, the Labour leader has also said that the party will make public the register of ministerial interests in the same way as the register of MPs interests’ is published.

The policies, jointly agreed by Starmer, Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor, and Angela Rayner, Labour’s deputy leader, are a response to the scandals gripping the government.

I don't think so @Zonder. He even lied to little kids who couldn't have a birthday party.Sad He's a total, utter, lying cunt.

And I can't say Sunak is much better. I mean I think he's a bit better. But not much. I don't think he's lied to his wife, daughters or the king. But all that stuff about integrity, not having Cummings in the fold etc. That's all a load of bollocks and lies.

One of my (little) nieces had a birthday party the same week as Boris Johnson in June 2020 - albeit outside in the garden as per the rules at the time (the children were able to use the toilet inside). My niece's birthday party lasted two or three hours - Johnson's so-called party lasted about 15 minutes. I know which party my niece would have preferred.

Well, we haven't got a Labour government yet, have we? Of course the Tories could very easily say 'Great, we'll do the same thing, nothing to see here.'. I wonder why they haven't?

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/04/2024 22:24

I'm guessing not the Tory Party?Grin

Why is that odd? It's what Sunak and c-Hunt do all the time.
