I would like to hear people's opinion on Trump returning to the White House.

Not someone just spoiling for a fight anyway Wink

beguilingeyes · 28/12/2023 14:48

Bending over and offering Putin your arse isn't getting on with world leaders, it's sucking up to them. See also Kim Jong Un.

BethDuttonsTwin · 28/12/2023 16:05

Agree with you @QuestionsQuestionsAgain but Trump Derangement Syndrome has long engulfed MN. You cannot have a reasonable discussion about him on this forum. Do I want to see him as president again? Sheesh No! But Biden is little better and neither was Obama but people just will not have that discussion. When people bang on about abolishing the monarchy I imagine full political organisation in the UK along the lines of the US and I shudder to the soles of my shoes.

I know I will receive lots of hate messages but let me try anyway:
I think if he stayed for the second term his bold and unorthodox stance in foreign policy might have:
Pushed for a peace in Middle East
Prevented a disaster in Afghanistan
Prevented the war in Ukraine
Made a final peace in Korean peninsula

This is my view. You are welcome to challenge it.

Seriously?

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 06/01/2024 20:00

Melania won’t be at all happy if he gets in again.

Wowzel · 06/01/2024 20:07

I don't understand why the candidates aren't better- surely there are people in the USA who would be good at being president?

Money.

It takes a lot of it to run for President. Also party support. No solid Democrat would get the support from the party to oppose Joe Biden right now. Lots of people are interested, but without party support, they’d struggle to get the nomination and screw themselves for a future run. If Biden stepped down they’d all be in like Flynn!

And the reason we’re likely going to be stuck with Trump again is that there are too many opponents and they’re splitting the vote. They need to consolidate and have one person oppose him but their egos are all too big.

Also the primary system is a ridiculous nightmare.

Zonder · 11/01/2024 08:56

Pro: it would make the political situation in the UK loom slightly less deranged. Hopefully we will have a new government here by then.

borntobequiet · 11/01/2024 09:07

No pros.

No pros.

lol I think ur confusing Trump with Biden who's been a disaster wide open border & wars in Ukraine & Israel due to Biden incompetence & weakness! Even liberal cities like NY are fed up of all the illegals, the hotels are full so are now being housed in a school gymnasiums & students are having to be taught from home. Another 4yrs of dementia Joe will be disastrous for not just USA but for the entire world!

That's a bit like saying that, if he had stayed for a second term, he might have made pigs fly.

What is your evidence for each of the above claims? We can't possibly challenge your views when they appear to have been plucked out of thin air...there is literally nothing of any substance to challenge.

The problem we have now with any body challenging your views is, facts and truth have now become subjective depending on ' who u belive' people can discount clear facts as not true as they don't fit their own narrative. And excuse them away. The fact trump incited a violent Insurrection on January 6ty and could potentially go to prison. Is enough to not even consider this question, the fact you feel the need to present any pros, makes me think you do not consider the actual facts about trump.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 11/01/2024 19:44

I… right. You could sit there and tell me that the countries of giraffe and crocodile don’t like America and are targeting it due on this. This would be easier to latch on to than Ukraine and Israel not only having borders with each other but some with America too? My one year old unutterably stupid cat and I both think you are silly. For good measure so does my blanket.

Unicornsunited123 · 11/01/2024 19:44

Trump has always been a con man he just happened to con his way into the white house. 🙄

You do realise that expressing disagreement isn't 'hate', right?

AgnesX · 11/01/2024 19:48

The man is an egotistical, self serving, trouble making liar.

America deserves so much more - be careful of what you wish for.

No. America is doing well under Biden.

If Trump becomes President, he will cosy up to every authoritarian thug in power and shit on America’s traditional allies. He loves Putin. And he’ll find more scapegoats for his followers to hate and blame. If you want the US to turn into an authoritarian hellhole though, sure - vote that pos in.

Crikeyalmighty · 11/01/2024 20:02

I see no pros- the man's a self important egomaniac- and thick with it!

I don't understand this.

Nobody has mentioned the "countries of giraffe and crocodile" which is quite an interesting term in itself.

Ukraine and Israel have borders with each other and with America?

Do you want to try writing this again now it's morning?

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 12/01/2024 09:21

Do you want to maybe reflect on why this is insulting when I was clearly making a point with a clear use of reductio ad absurdum.
The point I was making was that nobody is going to run with Israel having borders with the US ffs. Thanks for destroying some of the few self esteem points I had left. Ffs.

DarkAcademia · 12/01/2024 09:52

I don't believe Trump has many personal policies or beliefs of his own, which makes him risky - much like Boris Johnson, I think.

He twiddled with some tax brackets, which temporarily reduced how much some his core working lower middle class voters pay, and permanently reduced corporation tax, so overall, reduced federal income, which will hurt poor voters in the long term, but pleased some of his base in the short term.

I get the impression he is anti-war, in general. Sometimes though (like in Ukraine), military force is necessary to preserve, well, a country's existence, so I struggle to be fully anti-war there. He would have fully left Ukraine to sink beneath the waves.

Because I don't believe he has investments in weapons manufacture, he has no interest in war as being pro-business (which many others in the US government do), so he doesn't promote it. He runs hotels and builds apartment blocks, and wars are bad for tourism and the property market. But you can't ALWAYS run a country like a business (as the Tories here are seeing).

He is personally anti-gun, and pro gun control (I believe) but the one go he had at living up to his "renegade" presidential identity, and following his own beliefs went out the window when he bowed to the NRA after an initial tweet that expressed horror after one of the worst mass shootings (it could have been the Route 91 one?) was deleted, and replaced with a "thoughts and prayers" one, and a complete silence from the White House about gun control. It's the ONE THING he had the power to use his "maverick" identity to do, and change thinking among his own base (which is very pro gun), and he failed.

I don't know why that action (or inaction) is the failure of his that bothers me the most, but it really is.

He has also been accused of rape by a substantial number of women, including his own ex wife and someone who was 13 at the time but was threatened until she dropped her lawsuit, and (like Biden, yes) is getting very old and regularly shows signs of getting confused and tangled in his words, like most of us would at that age.

His children are neither here nor there. I'm not sure people can mock Hunter Biden with Trump children and their spouses (I mean Kushner) running around though?

MyopicBunny · 15/01/2024 11:32

Trump is pure evil. He almost brought civil war to America. Absolutely awful man.
