Nope.

He can refuse to resign, stay put in Number 10 and defy his party’s MPs to force him from office. And that is exactly what I expect him to do.

^^ This.

I can't see him going anywhere either.

He feels he was born to be PM and he'll cling on as long as he possibly can regardless of what's happening around him.

@LillyDeValley - I do apologise fellow Mumsnetters I dont know which way is up!

panachronic · 05/07/2022 20:18

Leaving Johnson with a diminishing pool of possible replacements. Sunak has done one so that he does not have to face the pile of steaming shit of an economy for which he is responsible for and Jabbit is an opportunist who wants a go at being PM. Sadly, IMO, nothing will change. Johnson ain't going nowhere but will simply limp on to the next GE.

ElbowGreaseLightning · 05/07/2022 20:26

Boris is toast. If Raab, Truss and Dorres want careers post Boris they will resign tonight too.

EmmaH2022 · 05/07/2022 20:28

People have funny ideas

mum just said to me "haven't they wrecked their careers doing that?"

maybe BJ has even more dictatorial power than I thought!

I.e. threw a 'scary' word into the conversation and can't defend (or define) what I said.

Thanks for the clarification, and have a good evening!

There were no scary words at all. You're just just bloody rude. There is a lot to unpack and anything I say will just get torn to pieces anyway. Why should I bother? I'm going to avoid this part of Mumsnet from now on.

theworldhas · 05/07/2022 20:40

The public gave Johnson and his government of dumb sycophants a huge majority just a couple of years ago. It should be respected and he should be given the time to deliver on the country’s wishes.

GG1986 · 05/07/2022 20:41

Good, he is a total arsehole!

theworldhas · 05/07/2022 20:43

I want Liz Truss

As a Labour voter so do I. She comes across as at once thick as shit and slightly unhinged. Quite the combination. Can’t think of anyone better to usher in a period of sensible majority Labour government.

Rabbitholedigger · 05/07/2022 20:45

"Leaving Johnson with a diminishing pool of possible replacements. Sunak has done one so that he does not have to face the pile of steaming shit of an economy for which he is responsible for and Jabbit is an opportunist who wants a go at being PM."

And this annoys me. There is a war in Europe, we are heading towards recession, we are just scraping through a pandemic, strikes, cost of living crisis and now this.

Fuck them and them doing this for self serving reasons.

FourTeaFallOut · 05/07/2022 20:46

I wonder how many jobs ND and DR will have in the morning?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/07/2022 20:47

Firstly I'm by a billion miles no Tory lover voter or defender. However it's all well and good cheering and doing a merry dance and hoping Boris will be next but who replaces them. Do you think they'll do a superior job and miraculously solve everyone's problems and worries.
We have another Election for what ? The Tories to just get back in.
Even if Labour does get in I doubt anything will change. All parties are pretty much of muchness.

Provenceinthesummer · 05/07/2022 20:51

Starmer announced LP ready for a snap election

Vegansausageroll · 05/07/2022 20:52

Steven Barclay as new health secretary Shock

Provenceinthesummer · 05/07/2022 20:53

Let’s hope Labour is ready as I can see Boris winning again

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 05/07/2022 20:54

I don’t reckon a Tory majority is a dead cert, certainly come winter when the full magnitude of the shitness of Brexit, price rises and fuel prices kick in.

I cant remember a chancellor ever resigning so this is bad news for Boris. It is rats leaving a sinking ship.

Like that tory backbencher said months ago "for God's sake just go".

Javid also resigned when he was chancellor didn't he?

Livelovebehappy · 05/07/2022 21:01

Boris will definitely go now. Two senior Tories have gone, which sounds the death nell on his leadership now. Laughing though to hear Starmer demanding a snap general election. He has absolutely no chance of getting into power yet. Maybe in a few years, but I still think labour are unelectable in their current format. Bless him though for trying……

theworldhas · 05/07/2022 21:02

Yeah it’s all a show. Not a fan of Boris Johnson at all. But he is Their Man! They all voted him in. They all knew what he was like. In the context of the shit that’s striking the country now - Covid, cost of living, Ukraine, housing, global warming, Brexit etc. this corruption stuff is all small small fry. The Tories would rather have this silly civil war shit than face up to the job of governing.

Spaghag · 05/07/2022 21:03

GCAcademic · 05/07/2022 18:58

Nah, that will be Michael Fabricant, I reckon. The cabinet of the clowns.

Yes. Those of us in South Staffordshire are so proud of our MPs. Fabricant & Pincher in neighbouring constituencies. Fabulous.

I think they'll pull it off if they get a new leader now. They'll all distance themselves from Boris the buffoon/philanderer/liar. They'll convince their public they were just as conned by him as they were and the electorate's right leanings will win out.

Rabbitholedigger · 05/07/2022 21:04

@theworldhas yep!

There is bigger fish to fry right now!

runner Johnson doesn’t need anyone else to call a GE - he may already have done so for all we know. He simply needs to inform the Queen.

I’d like to be a fly on that wall. With a bit of luck she can pretend to have a moment of I’m-old-enough-to-do-what-i-like-and-not-what-i-ought and poke him with her stick.

Yes. He won’t go. Why would he? He doesn’t have to, and he genuinely believes it’s his birthright. He’s awesome at it and he’s doing a great job. He always has believed that. And he doesn’t give a flying fuck what anyone else thinks.

Jetstream · 05/07/2022 21:11

Damn, very good TV for those of us not living in thevUK.
