Sorry GOVE

If I was Boris right now I would take the vote to the people, what does he have to lose I ask you ?

I hope I’m wrong, but I really can’t see Boris resigning. The man has no shame and no concern for anything other than himself, so he gives not a shit if he finishes off the Tories in the next election. Plus he has the cockroach-like ability to survive and thrive that only privileged oiks like him enjoy.

Yes
I tend to see most politicians as sociopaths but him more so than most

that's quite something.

Firstly Boris can call an election whenever he wants to, and the MPs know that.

Secondly it’s not obvious who will be leader of the Labour Party by then of Starmer has to resign

I am not sure a leadership contest can happen now as Boris won the confidence vote.

The Conservative MPs made the rules. They can change them at any time for any reason

Runnerbeansflower · 05/07/2022 19:04

I might be wrong, willing to be corrected, but if the PM recommends to the Queen there's a GE then that happens?

Although that may be from before the fixed term Parliament laws.

So if the Conservatives have a leadership election and the new leader gets enough MPs on board they can continue.

I don't know

Yes, that's how we ended up with a hung parliament under Teresa May when she inherited a healthy majority.

midsomermurderess · 05/07/2022 19:10

Boris will be nest? Ya think? What, exactly, do you think they resigned for? Christ this place!

Runnerbeansflower · 05/07/2022 19:11

Sorry GOVE

😆 of course. He has no future without BJ.

Labour Mp's are drinking Champagne in the parliament bar

Well they ought to be working on what they do next! This isn't good news for them IMO. A change of leadership will soon put the Conservatives back in front. Split will be forgiven and the fear mongering about rising taxes etc will make Labour unelectable again unless they get their act together.

Labour's best hope currently is that Johnson hangs on until it's too late for his party.

Eddiesferret · 05/07/2022 19:13

Please please please 🙏🙏🙏 make Nadine chancellor !!

The last thing this committed socialist wants is a competent Tory government... not until about half an hour before a GE

Bollindger · 05/07/2022 19:13

I like Boris, but I really do think he should resign, and say it is on the grounds of ill health, as he was down with something last month as well.
This would allow who ever takes over 2 years of settling in, I want Liz Truss.
If he was offered a place in the Lords I think he might go. and then he would still be around but out of harms way.

Zone2NorthLondon · 05/07/2022 19:13

Boris will absolutely NOT resign. He will call and win a snap election
hes too bullish and vain to resign, he has the BBC cowed they never challenge him no right wing press will go after Labour Party. Unfortunately BJ bluster and confidence seem to appeal to a large amount of electorate. He will campaign by casting aspersions of the unions, stoking an anti public sector feeling and whip up hysteria about public sector strikes

Oldwomansweddingdress · 05/07/2022 19:15

God I love a political drama.

OK, so BJ's threat to those who don't back him is that he calls a GE.

All the MPs then have to decide whether they will

a) oppose him based on probably surviving a GE if they now come out against him, or

b) support him to stay in power because they would lose their seat now or in 2024, or

c) oppose him out of principle, some MPs have to be fair

LadyWithLapdog · 05/07/2022 19:17

The fucking nerve of that Johnson sleaze bag

Labour should be dusting down their tattered manifesto.

Why do you like him?

This is not a dig, I genuinely can't understand, but he obviously has mass appeal so I want to understand

SnowyLamb · 05/07/2022 19:05

No Conservative is going to call a GE now. Surely they wouldn't be that stupid.

Given all the shit which is happening in the country/world, actually now might be a canny (if reprehensible) time to dump it on Labour.

Provenceinthesummer · 05/07/2022 19:19

runner Johnson doesn’t need anyone else to call a GE - he may already have done so for all we know. He simply needs to inform the Queen.

He can't call a snap election can he? We have the fixed term parliament act....

SisyphusDad · 05/07/2022 19:21

I suspect that the only ones resigning will be those with some hope of a new job in a future government. That cuts out most of the current lot, from Patel, Truss and Raab down. Their only attribute for government is no-brain loyalty to Johnson.

The only problem with your idea is that Labour almost certainly will not and cannot win! They aren’t going to inherit anything.

Johnson will win, and he will have a fresh mandate from the people and the BS in the party will be stilled once again.
