Considering you think conservatives are conservative, me or anyone explaining to you what a socialist is will be a colossal waste of time.

I haven't used the word 'conservative'.

You have used the word 'socialist' so why not explain what that word means to you, and how the manifesto of any of the major political parties is 'socialist'.

PlanetNormal · 05/07/2022 18:38

I genuinely do not believe Johnson will ever resign & leave Number 10 voluntarily. If the Tory party wants to get rid of him before the next election they will have to force him from office by defeating him in a leadership election.

Themidnightcat · 05/07/2022 18:38

Please can someone explain what this means in a TLDR - is it possible the tories won't be in government anymore or do we not know?

I know you didn't. I did. Again, waste of time.

Provenceinthesummer · 05/07/2022 18:39

I hear there are rumblings in both parties

Jenasaurus · 05/07/2022 18:39

Ian Dales described the cabinet as having a whiff of decay and once the stench hits there is no turning back

Can't see how he can continue having lost his chancellor and health minister - the fat lady is singing for Boris surely?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/07/2022 18:41

According to this BBC article "There is no place for anyone in this government who abuses power," Mr Johnson said.

Boris Johnson said that, Boris Fucking Johnson. If ever there was a right time for someone to be struck by lighting out of the blue, that was the time. He has no self awareness whatsoever.

Runnerbeansflower · 05/07/2022 18:42

Tbh, I don't think BJ is 'conservative', just 'self interested' and 'out for what I can get'.

Though willing to be corrected. Please feel free to define 'conservative' and point out to ignorant people like me how the current government got conservative principles. Hell, why not just explain what the current government's principles are, as I can't see any

Provenceinthesummer · 05/07/2022 18:42

Boris isn’t going anywhere
Rishi was always manoeuvring and always had the support of Sajid. They both have their eye on the top job!
If it was Raab or Patel that would be different but we always knew what Sunak was up to.

AmaryIlis · 05/07/2022 18:42

BlanketsBanned · 05/07/2022 18:25

They are saying Raab is loyal to bojo

He did seem to be distancing himself a bit this morning when the McDonald letter was thrown at him.

Spudina · 05/07/2022 18:43

I can’t see him going. Or dragging Carrie away from her expensive wallpaper. He’s gonna fight till the bitter end whilst doing fuck all about the nations problems.

Oh he absolutely isn't. I agree with you there.

Please educate me. I am willing to listen. I may not agree, but then it is my responsibility to come up with a rational argument to counter your rational argument. Be the better person.

Provenceinthesummer · 05/07/2022 18:44

Sunak and Sajid will be replaced by the morning. I’m sure Sunak was planning this all along, no surprise to anyone,

Jenasaurus · 05/07/2022 18:44

What do you think this means for the conservative party long term

OP posts:
custardbear · 05/07/2022 18:44

They're both rich - no
Money worries or 'need of a job' so I'd guess it's tactical that they'd do better stepping away from frankly fucking outrageous behaviours if the government and they'll
Land on their feet ... when if they don't they can still feed
Their family,
Unlike the rest of the nation 🤬

The tories will remain in government unless they're removed at a general election.

If Boris resigns, then he'll remain in post until the tories chose their new leader and he/she - a leader of the largest party in Parliament- will become PM. They could ask Parliament to vote for an election but they're not obliged to do so.

Would rather not. I'm in the wrong part of Mumsnet. Sorry. Have a nice evening.

Who by? Surely Johnson is running out of blindly loyal people with reasonable competence to take over these posts? It would hardly be a good look to bring Hancock back.

Provenceinthesummer · 05/07/2022 18:48

Nothing will happen and the bbc will be even more disappointed than usual is my bet. I am sorry to tell you but the loss of two backstabbers is hardly a great loss to Johnson.

Ilikewinter · 05/07/2022 18:48

So who on earth is he going to replace them with?

3amAndImStillAwake · 05/07/2022 18:49

Ilikewinter · 05/07/2022 18:48

Chancellor Nadine Dorries??

I.e. threw a 'scary' word into the conversation and can't defend (or define) what I said.

Thanks for the clarification, and have a good evening!

QuebecBagnet · 05/07/2022 18:49

I’m also hoping others will follow like rats leaving a sinking ship and then Boris goes too. The alternative is he stays surrounded by people like JRM, Nadine and Priti Patel…..doesn’t bear thinking about.
