Is dh right when he says he can't vote for Labour simply because of this?

Just had a discussion with DH as our postal votes are in soon. His sole reasoning as to why he can't vote for JC is that he's an extremist, he's a communist and because previously he has aligned himself with extremists and seemed to sympathise with them. He thinks there will be more attacks under GC as he won't be taken seriously and he will 'try to make friends with them if anything happens' rather than using a hard line.

He sent me this article when I asked him to back his views up.

I was thinking I would vote for labour but now rethinking. Is he right?

Corbyn is a socialist not a communist.

Lonely planet- thanks for your list. Shocking. I wish it was on more threads to help people make a more informed decision.

I am not letting DH rule my decision or asking his permission. There is lots of DH says because I am outlining why he says he is choosing to vote conservatives.

I am interested in how he votes because it feels like he doesn't care, I can't quite believe he wants to vote for more of this misery. I don't think he's thinking of how it effects our family, he's in his own bubble, or how it effects our future and our children's future. Plus it irritates me that he is so ill informed and makes sweeping generalisations about something so important.

OP posts:
Mintjulia · 01/12/2019 07:51

OP, that is HIS view, and his vote. He can do as he pleases.

How you vote is up to you.

mummyrocks1 · 01/12/2019 07:52

Plus- annoying as if he votes conservatives if immediately cancels out my labour vote anyway. So what's the point?

Husband is correct Corbyn is an nasty, dangerous, idiot. Controlled by some very nasty individuals.

In your OP you said you're thinking of changing your vote so it's nothing to do with cancelling your vote out (which it doesn't).

YouJustDoYou · 01/12/2019 08:08

When you vote in a leader who has certain views, you'll find an alarming rise is those members of society who see it as a goahead to openly support/spout the same held views. So saying "you're voting for the party, not the leader" is utterly irresponsible.

Cyberworrier · 01/12/2019 08:10

Votes cancelling each other out is an odd way of looking at it, but sounds like you do want to cancel his vote for austerity out, so if that makes sense to you go for it.
Honestly, you seem to have more of a grasp of current affairs than your husband, so vote with your conscience.
As others say, if you are worried about security, both in terms of financial/public services/terror threats, voting for getting Brexit done, at all costs, come what may, is like a Turkey voting for Christmas. As PP have said, Brexit is already creating tensions in NI. Think about the NHS and please research what people on the ground are saying and how they feel about current govt.

lonelyplanetmum · 01/12/2019 08:15

mummyrocks I got much more into reading about politics since 2016 so I now read loads of different news from different sources to form a view.

If it's any consolation my DH says he doesn't vote Tory... but I'm not so sure! It's also irritates me that he is sometimes ill informed and he also copies his colleague who makes sweeping generalisations about Labour that are in correct. Plus FiL a UKIP/Brexit party voter so although DH says he agrees with me I'm not always convinced!

lonelyplanetmum · 01/12/2019 08:19

Oh and where I said used trucks to close Parliament in my original post I meant tricks!

Cyberworrier · 01/12/2019 08:21

As for Corbyn being a nasty, dangerous idiot. The mind boggles. Ok, I’m not Jezza’s biggest fan, but if you offer me a choice between a long-standing campaigner for peace and social justice and a philandering, out of touch journo who has denigrated (without apology) single mothers, Muslims, black people, gay people, Liverpudlians etc without a thought... I know who I would rather have as PM.

Also shows, some people must have a very different understanding of the word nasty to call the anti apartheid campaigner nasty, not the elitist, sexist philanderer. 🤷‍♀️

Oh and as for unseen influences... excuse me, Russian involvement in Brexit!

I agree with this. Which is why I don’t want a party leader who uses girl as an insult and who has lied to parliament, the Queen and the people. (And other reprehensible views stated above).

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 01/12/2019 08:28

Prime Ministers don't get to do exactly what they want, as Boris is finding out. I laughed at his petulant face when he sat in parliament as he realised that he couldn't actually just "get Brexit done!" Prime Ministers are figure heads they don't actually get final say on anything.

ivykaty44 · 01/12/2019 08:34

1700 people killed and thousands injured by motorists this year, they all need treatment from NHS. Your more likely to be involved in a car crash, unfortunately and need medical treatment

You’ll say goodbye to free at source NHS, it’ll still be there but not as we know it

Ragwort · 01/12/2019 09:32

I wouldn't want my DH to try and persuade me to vote differently, everyone is entitled to their own political view (whether we agree with it or not), my DH & I don't vote the same, our votes probably do cancel each other's vote, but that is our right, to have a free vote.

KenDodd · 01/12/2019 12:57

As for Corbyn being a nasty, dangerous idiot.
Well I don't know about nasty but he certainly is a dangerous idiot. His refusal to step down is going to let in the most right wing government this country has seen followed by their disastrous no deal Brexit at the end of 2020, a return to violence in NI and renewed momentum for the break up of the UK. I swear sometimes I think Corbyn is a Tory mole, he's certainly the Tories greatest asset.

Letter from 163 economists to the Financial Times, backing Labour's policies as vital to get the economy working again.

Signatories include Danny Blanchflower, who is a former member of the Bank of England's interest rate-setting Monetary Policy Committee. The letter is quite long so I have included only some parts of it. The Full letter is on the Link and well worth reading.

Letter: 'As economists we believe the Labour party deserves to form the next UK government'

From David G Blanchflower and others

'The UK economy needs reform. For too long it has prioritised consumption over investment, short-term financial returns over long-term innovation, rising asset values over rising wages, and deficit reduction over the quality of public services.

The results are now plain. We have had 10 years of near zero productivity growth. Corporate investment has stagnated. Average earnings are still lower than in 2008. A gulf has arisen between London and the South East and the rest of the country. And public services are under intolerable strain — which the economic costs of a hard Brexit would only make worse. We now moreover face the urgent imperative of acting on the climate and environmental crisis.

Given private sector reluctance, what the UK economy needs is a serious injection of public investment, which can in turn leverage private finance attracted by the expectation of higher demand. Such investment needs to be directed into the large-scale and rapid decarbonisation of energy, transport, housing, industry and farming; the support of innovation- and export-oriented businesses; and public services. It is clear that this will require an active and green industrial strategy, aimed at improving productivity and spreading investment across the country....

..... As economists, and people who work in various fields of economic policy, we have looked closely at the economic prospectuses of the political parties. It seems clear to us that the Labour party has not only understood the deep problems we face, but has devised serious proposals for dealing with them. We believe it deserves to form the next government.'

David G Blanchflower
Bruce V Rauner Professor of Economics, Dartmouth College; Professor of Economics. University of Stirling; former member, Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee

Plus 162 other signatures.

I'm sure cocaine enthusiast Michael Gove will dismiss the economists, saying the country doesn't need experts.

'Private firms given £9.2bn of NHS budget despite Hancock promise'

'Record 2018 total comes after health secretary pledged no privatisation on his watch'

.
"The Department of Health and Social Care handed a record total of £9.2bn last year to private providers such as Virgin Care and the Priory mental health group, its annual report shows.

That is an increase of 14% from the £8.1bn that went to profit-driven healthcare companies in 2014-15 and £410m more than the £8.77bn they received in 2017-18."

The PM's despicable attempt to not only politicise the London Bridge terror attack but to actually lie about root causes and pass the buck is a new low even for him.

However no one should be surprised this is a man who has made a career from lying and deceit, not only has he been sacked from two previous jobs for lying, but virtually everyone who has worked with him describes him as being a serial abuser of the truth.

In this campaign alone both he and his party have been caught doctoring videos to make political opponents look bad, caught impersonating independent twitter account factcheck in order to spread Tory propaganda during leaders' debate. They have also been warned by BBC to stop altering video footage on FB which looks as though BBC political journalist support .

The PM has repeatedly refused to be scrutinised by voters and political journalists wherever possible and is running scared from Andrew Neil, as he knows he will rip his lies to shreds. He even get caught during Andrew Marr interview in repeated lies, including somehow saying that austerity was not their fault and that the last 9 years of Tory Govt are nothing to do with him, yet time and time again he voted for their policies.

The Tories even started to threaten CH4 saying they "would look seriously into their licensing",after they quite rightly replaced the PM with a melting ice statue, as he refused to attend leaders' debate on climate change. These kind of threats against media are what we would expect in a country like Russia and from Putin, not in UK.

I am no big fan of Jeremy Corbyn or Labour but i would rather they led a minority Govt than Boris Johnson and his right wing cronies got another 5 years in power.

* David Blanchflower* ... Not Danny Blanchflower... Duh. x

DoctorTwo · 02/12/2019 23:49

@ColourMagic he is universally known as Danny Blanchflower.

OP, I too cannot vote for Jeremy Corbyn because I don't live in Islington North. I will be voting Labour, because their policies might benefit the majority of the population of this country.

caringcarer · 03/12/2019 00:00

JC counts Hezbollah, Hamas and IRA among his friends. When Conservative party were bombed and some in hospital very ill JC invited IRA to Westminster to talk to him over drinks. Sickening. Do not forget he also supports antisemitism. We have good Jewish friends who are so worried about JC running the country they have actually made plans to leave if he comes into power; taking their children out of schools, selling house and moving to another country. They are really frightened. Unemployment always goes up sharply under a Labour government.

www.thelondoneconomic.com/opinion/boris-johnson-approved-1-2-billion-arms-sales-to-saudi-arabia-as-bombs-rained-down-on-yemen/26/07/

As I’ve said on another thread, very recently. Corbyn talks to terrorists. But the conservative government approves the sale of arms to Saudi Arabia who fund and supply terrorist groups. Boris Johnson agreed the sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia knowing that they were being used to bomb civilians.
If you can hate corbyn but support johnson knowing that, there must be some serious delusions going on.

'The UK’s main press regulator has reprimanded The Jewish Chronicle for “significantly misleading” claims in reports about supposed anti-Semitism in the Labour Party.

The Independent Press Standards Organization also called the newspaper’s obstruction of the investigation into a series of articles published this year “unacceptable.”

Four articles by the pro-Israel paper were ruled misleading by the UK press regulator.

.
Audrey White is a trade unionist from Liverpool and a supporter of Jeremy Corbyn – a veteran Palestine solidarity campaigner.

The paper smeared her as being behind a “hard-left plot” and of being at “the center of bullying claims against Jewish MP Dame Louise Ellman” – then the member of Parliament for White’s Liverpool Riverside constituency.

White told The Electronic Intifada that the [IPSO] ruling was a damning indictment of the paper. It “reveals the origins of the false narrative that Louise Ellman was forced out of Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party because she was bullied in our constituency meetings,” she said.

Labour members had no disagreement with Ellman “because of her religion, but we had real differences regarding her political views. These vile attempts to discredit party members should be exposed.”

White said that The Jewish Chronicle’s “falsified account of our constituency meeting fed into the narrative that Riverside CLP was anti-Semitic and that we drove a Jewish MP out of the Labour Party.”

She said that “this lie was repeated over and over again by all the mainstream media. If anyone had any decency they would admit they were wrong.”
