I think the tories will lose

I actually thought they would win, and there was nothing anyone could do. Now I think they will lose.

OP posts:

Labour on 40% . They won on 43% in 2001.

alltouchedout · 02/06/2017 14:23

I don't think the Tories are competent to take on the Brexit negotiations. I think they're starting off with totally the wrong approach, one almost guaranteed to make the whole thing as fractious and difficult and unpleasant as possible. I understand why that plays well with a certain element of the electorate, but the fact that they think it's the best way to make Brexit as much of a success as it can be tells me that they are not to be trusted with it at all.

citroenpresse · 02/06/2017 14:51

alltouchedout totally agree. The confrontational approach might speak to the Ukippers or disaffected Labour supporters whose votes she wants but where is the message for remainers? Is refusing to stand alongside the other G7 leaders over climate control a sign of things to come? We stand with Trump but not with Europe? Yuk.

christinarossetti · 02/06/2017 16:41

They've played such a poor campaign. Why would anyone trust them to negotiate anything?

Yes, and a very weak statement re Trump pulling out of the Paris agreement. Further alienating the UK from Europe.

Her tough negotiating Brexit fantasy is just that. Utterly delusional.

Fanciedachange17 · 02/06/2017 17:02

Anyone hear the Jeremy Corbyn interview on Woman's hour? It started badly with him not knowing the exact financial figures the journalist was demanding. However he remained calm and I thought he was dignified and respectful. He grew in my estimation. I became increasingly annoyed by the aggressive journalist who was clearly partisan and looking to make some brownie points for her own career. I'm not a Labour supporter but this time they can have a cross from me.

I agree too.

I don't understand how so many think the Tories will negotiate the best deal, at all. Maybe the endless repetition of 'strong and stable' has sunk in to some. I don't get it though.

Oneiroi · 02/06/2017 17:22

None of the parties deserve to win this election, they are all a disaster. The best outcome may be a hung parliament, divided to the extent that none of them can do anything much for the next few years. That would likely be less damaging than any of them being able to follow their proposals (not that any government ever does anyway).

CaptainBrickbeard · 02/06/2017 17:24

To be honest, I think the Tories will get their landslide. I don't think this campaign has been great for May's career, but I think it will pay off for them.

Corbyn has done a much better campaign than I think anyone expected but that could cause more rifts and division within the Labour Party and an unopposed Tory majority is a bleak prospect for us all.

I can't understand how people can be so convinced that there is no money, it just isn't there - but accept without flinching that we can afford tens of billions to pay for Brexit, we can afford tax breaks for the wealthy and we can afford a ton of new grammar schools. However, it's naive and deluded to believe in the 'fantasy' of a society that provides healthcare to all regardless of income, looks after the vulnerable, delivers a fair and high quality education and abhors poverty.

citroenpresse · 02/06/2017 17:25

If you don't vote at all, don't shove the blame onto someone else. It's all you have. If you vote and still get a liar, well at least you tried your best and participated in the democratic process.. Isn't this what we say to our kids?

uglyflowers · 02/06/2017 17:25

Labour winning is the only hope ordinary people, the type on zero hours who can't afford private healthcare or education, have got. I am praying for a Labour win. Evil May, funding war and bombings abroad, must not be allowed to prevail.

Gottagetmoving · 02/06/2017 17:51

Gottagetmoving, you are a nurse now??? incredible, I have saw begging posts fromdoctors and nurses, we have had begging letters sent home from school because the education system has been sut to thebone, its utterly bloody disgusting. howon earth can you say anything like that

Like what???! The first part of my post was a quote from another poster!!

Gottagetmoving · 02/06/2017 17:58

I find your posts rude gotra

What is rude about saying none of the nurses I know would agree with what you said? It's a bloody fact! Sorry if you think facts are rude Headofthehive

hackmum · 02/06/2017 18:02

Most of the polls show the Tories well ahead. And historically, the polls tend to overestimate Labour support, so it would be really surprising if Labour won. And don't forget there is practically zero chance of Labour gaining back all the seats it lost to the SNP in Scotland.

Don't get your hopes up, OP.

ShoesHaveSouls · 02/06/2017 18:04

Headofthehive - you are a very lucky nurse indeed if what you say is true. I hear the opposite all the time - both from people I know who work on the front line, and from experiencing the services myself.

The Red Cross declared a Humanitarian Crisis in the NHS earlier this year - it doesn't get much more critical than that, surely? We are a rich nation - and yet we have people actually starving on wards because they are not provided with the most basic care.

Headofthehive55 · 02/06/2017 18:42

gotta Yes I am a nurse now, and have had cause to use the NHS as a patient this year. I felt you were rude as you were implying that I was lying about being a nurse.
I can't help it if my experiences don't match your friends. I never said they did. I am speaking from my experience first hand.

Gottagetmoving · 03/06/2017 15:33

I didnt imply anything! I said none of the nurses I know would agree with you.
It's not rude to be surprised at something you said, neither is it rude to say why I was surprised. It's the exact opposite of what I hear all the time.
I think it's very rude to accuse me of implying anything.

bruffian · 03/06/2017 15:37

Tories will win. Seats will stay roughly the same. It will have all been a big waste of time.

roarfeckingroar · 03/06/2017 15:48

I've been out canvassing for the Tories in marginal seats. The reaction has been noticeably more positive than in 2015.

The vocal left

roarfeckingroar · 03/06/2017 15:48

*wont win

ExplodedCloud · 03/06/2017 15:58

I think it'll be a Tory win :(
I don't trust the polls.
If they win but lose seats TM will be dispatched with.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 03/06/2017 16:00

Hello everyone, sorry to interrupt. We're just moving this thread over to Politics. Thanks.

Chchchchangeabout · 03/06/2017 16:01

The polls still say the Tories will win by a considerable amount.

WrongTrouser · 03/06/2017 16:06

Would anyone who is hoping for a Labour win care to give their prediction for how the Labour infighting (understatement) would play out once they are in government? Will the 80% of MPs who wanted to get rid of Corbyn support him? Will the Guardian who have lobbied against Corbyn almost as much as against the Tories suddenly back him? What do people think would happen?

Elendon · 03/06/2017 16:08

Of course May will win. Thankfully I own my own house, and due to a long term health condition, will die young. I have dual nationality as do my children plus strong connections with family and friends.

The coming years are really going to be a car crash. But you get what you vote for. The people have spoken etc. I really do pity those living in the south east of this country.
