Into the final lap now after over 1 year of entertainment, education and excitement. Donald J Trump is nearly there against all expectations.

He reminds me a lot of a certain Mr Hitler, who also liked to say shocking things about the corruption of the system, and who used to like to be so outrageous, that no-one seriously thought he'd do any of the stupid shit he said he'd do. But he was for real, just like Trump is. Yes, for real mad.

I daresay Trump would, given half the chance, throw all his political opponents in jail, those that his followers (who all have guns) haven't taken out first, obviously. I daresay he would bar all Muslims from the US and build a great massive wall between the US and Mexico.

But strangely enough, I don't welcome this as 'showing the elite'.

I can't imagine who welcomes this, but I'm pretty sure it's not anyone I'd like to meet.

claig · 07/11/2016 21:10

He is not going to do that. Wait and see, if he wins. He uses bombastic language but everyone knows he is totally inconsistent on lots of issues and no one really knows what he will do except put America First, bring jobs back and end corruption.

OP posts:
flowersandsunshine · 07/11/2016 21:13

I sincerely hope I never get to see what he would do.

Grabbing a lot of p presumably.

flowersandsunshine · 07/11/2016 21:14

Why does it keep removing my asterisks?! Do I have to type it out in full?!!!

flowersandsunshine · 07/11/2016 21:17

He's never shown the slightest inclination in his life to date to bring jobs back or putting America first - he's married to a woman who worked as an illegal immigrant, and has a history of employing whoever's cheapest, so immigrants. He is about as corrupt as they come - numerous examples from both his work and personal life.

Have you been drinking, claig? Started early, maybe?

claig · 07/11/2016 21:20

He's changed

'Have you been drinking, claig? Started early, maybe?'

Not yet and it is getting late, so I need to open a bottle sharpish. Thanks for reminding me.

I can, but I'd rather not, if that's OK with you.

flowersandsunshine · 07/11/2016 21:22

"He's changed".

Says who? (And don't say - he said so.)

claig · 07/11/2016 21:23

'Says who?'

Not much point arguing with someone that invokes a certain Austrian gentleman of historical significance...

Trouble is snowdrop I rather think you have over committed emotionally to something which isn't intrinsically any of our business. I'm constantly amazed by the support from the left that the Democrats receive outside America. Yes the Republicans are further to the right but the Democrats are way way way to the right of our own Conservatives.

I think Trump is going to win and I think he's going to win big. Possibly break records. For several reasons.

Unlike us Americans like a winner. They don't have the tall poppy syndrome and whilst almost ironically narcissistic Trump has been the epitome of American success long before he destroyed the opposition to take the Republican nomination.

Clinton on the other hand isn't a successful and smart woman who has grafted her way to the top. She's there because her husband disgraced the office of President. She has no qualifications other than family ties and uses and abuses her power indiscriminately. When she first entered politics as nothing other than a known name she got the cold shoulder and attributed it to her being a woman. Moaned excessively about it. It never occurred to her that maybe people were skeptical because they knew she didn't deserve to be there. As for smart, she can't even work a printer and seems to have a callous disregard for human life that beggars belief.

If she's a winner then she's never proved it. Obama teabagged her in 2008 and she struggled to beat Bernie Sanders, despite the DNC rigging the election in her favour.

The latter point is another reason I think she'll lose. The anger and resentment caused amongst loyal Democrats by the shameless and undemocratic rigging, which wikileaks has merely confirmed, is palpable. Sanders only became a democrat for this election, he was an independent before yet probably would have won without the DNC's meddling.Despite every advantage he took take after state off her and the emails suggest they had leverage over him which might explain why he flaked at the end.

Lweji · 07/11/2016 21:32

She has no qualifications other than family ties

WTAF?

This statement alone disqualifies anything else you say.

claig · 07/11/2016 21:34

' The anger and resentment caused amongst loyal Democrats by the shameless and undemocratic rigging, which wikileaks has merely confirmed, is palpable'

That is a good point. There must be Bernie supporters who will not be able to support her. They may vote for Jill Stein instead. There are already reports that African Americans are not turning out for her in the way they did for Obama. That is not surprising because Obama was exceptional, has great charm and great speaking abilities and great comic talent too. Obama had just about everything, whereas hillary is struggling to enthuse some of her own base. All her team have is to try and terrify her base about Trump, but that may not be enough.

I started off thinking that this election was all about nationalists vs globalists. I now think that it's actually about MSM vs social media (so, indirectly, elites vs general public). The latter has been an amazingly emancipatory force. It is becoming abundantly clear that ordinary people are simply avoiding the MSM narratives that they used to have to swallow, and are doing their own thing. I love reading reader comments at the end of articles because everyone just goes, "Yeah, yeah, whatever. I've got stuff to be getting on with. Stop scaremongering". It's this that has made this election for me. I've loved every minute of seeing the MSM storylines completely ignored. People are choosing their own path all because of the internet (and Wikileaks!). Amazing.

Lweji · 07/11/2016 21:38

Trump was lent money by his dad. He inherited dad's money. He lost one billion in a year. Most of his "successes" are in his head.

Hillary already had a successful career as a lawyer when her husband got to the White House. She served as senator and as secretary of state.

If anyone is where they are through family ties is Trump. Without a doubt.

Roussette · 07/11/2016 21:45

Nah. TBH if he wins I doubt much will change. I admire your bravado on this claig but I think you are sorely mistaken.

My prediction is ... if he wins... unlikely

it will become very apparent very quickly to those that voted for him that they voted for someone without a plan. The honeymoon will be very short when reality hits.

There will be no wall. Neither side will pay for it. It won't happen.

Obamacare will stay

Taxes won't change much

He'll start a trade war even if that isn't his intention. He adds tariffs on imports because of China... that'll lead to other countries reciprocating with US goods.

He will have to swallow a bitter pill and learn to compromise with the left. He won't be in business and the boss, he will have to realise he can't bully his way to decisions. He will get increasingly frustrated. He has a thin skin, he is inconsistent and he is used to getting his way. That won't happen as he has no interest in boring things like long term planning or slow, balanced growth. He likes get-rich-quick schemes. All this means.. he will hate this job as he will be powerless. He will have to cope with so much legislation, so many staff around him advising him, so much administrative burden, he will be blocked by the Senate and Congress and if he were to get in (unlikely) I doubt he would last a term without impeachment.

The supporters will realise his 'best' is no good, they won't see change

claig · 07/11/2016 21:45

Absolutely right, fourmummy, it is amazing. No one believes the mainstream media any more, WMD, 45 minute dossier, unishment Budgets etc - everyone knows they are spinning us about Cologne and nearly everything else. Wikileaks shows the incestuous links between the media and the servant political class who serve the lobbyists.

This is an amazing clip that shows what is at the heart of this. Trump calls out the media bias and tells Andersen Cooper that

"the people don't trust you and the people don't trust the media"

That is what the silent majority is really thinking and no one stands up for them and calls the entire phoniness out.

Finally someone has told the truth.

' I admire your bravado on this claig but I think you are sorely mistaken.'

Rousette, I admit I may be wrong. He may be taking us all for a ride as he has done other people in the past. But from what I have seen by watching him for over a year and listening to US analysts, I don't think so. He won't do a lot of the things he said because they were always bombast, but I think he will change things big time and that is why markets, the media class and the servant political class are all spooked.

'Obamacare will stay'

Wow. Then he will have to be able to spin better than Tony Blair.

Hillary owes her 'success' to the Clinton Foundation and the greasy lobbying and pay for play schemes set up by her Husband whilst in office.

The Clinton name gives those with cash to burn immediate access to the wheels of power both domestically and abroad. Why do you think the banks pay her millions for a private speech? Why do you think Bill Clinton, as documented in one of the emails, stands to gain $66 million over the next few years and has profited far more than that in the past?

Ever heard Chelsea Clinton speak? Think she's a smart and well educated woman who will rise to the top by dint of her hard work and natural abilities? Well she started on $600,000 a year in her first job and still felt the need to use money supposedly destined for charitable causes from the Clinton Foundation to pay for her wedding.

Don't get me wrong I could make a case against Donald Trump should I so wish, he's no angel though I happen to think he's going to win.

The case against the Clintons however wrote itself well before wikileaks exposed them.

claig · 07/11/2016 21:54

Excellent points. That all could happen. The system may stop him and block him. But he is a can-do billionaire who cuts corners and flies by the seat of his pants and he is tougher than a rhino. He may be a bull in a china shop and shake the system up. It will be fascinating to watch either way.

Roussette · 07/11/2016 21:58

Wow. Then he will have to be able to spin better than Tony Blair.

His flaky "Trumpcare" will cause 21million to lose cover and cost billions of dollars more than obamacare. He has nothing to replace it with, so yes it will stay.

Shiningexample · 07/11/2016 22:02

if he gets in he'll be the American Berlusconi
make a total arse of himself
or ass

Roussette · 07/11/2016 22:04

But claig this isn't a game...

He can't cut corners... look at the picture which shows how much power he actually won't have in the WH, this is to stop some meglomaniac running the US thank god. He may well try and shake the system up but his hands will be tied.

Trump vs Clinton - the final 3 days
claig · 07/11/2016 22:05

Trump doesn't know the details himself. He is a salesman. But under Trump there are a lot of detail wonks and Dr Ben Carson etc who know about the medical system. I think that they will be able to come up with something that lowers the cost for all the people who are now facing increased premiums. Not everyone will probably win out of it, but I think that those who are currently facing huge premium increases will win and that will be popular among those voters.
