I would have thought they would be showing more compassion for a repressed minority but the opposite is happening

and Netanyahu saying they told the Palestinians to leave because they were going to be fired on...where the bloody hell would they go to?? IF THEY COULD GO AT ALL

We occasionally get people who support Israel's bombing and shelling saying "what do you expect us to do?"

Since Israel is incapable of using any method other than oppression, killing and maiming, which has consistently failed to bring peace, then I suppose I expect them to carry on until they have killed everybody.

The alternative, of not using violence, appears not to exist.

is it true that Israel only lets so much food go into Gaza, keeping the Gaza people on a strict diet of so many calories a day..effectively keeping the people starving?

I know someone who works in aid and development. I don't remember the exact details. He said Israel controls the items going in. They let it through eventually. However, they may hold on to it so long before it goes through that it goes off. I don't remember if he was referring to food or medicines.

I do remember the implication was that it was being done deliberately.

ssd · 28/07/2014 15:52

that confirms it, more or less

absolutely awful

Now, I must admit I don't know on what scale it is done. I haven't spoken to him in a while. But your comment reminded me of a previous conversation with him.

ssd · 28/07/2014 16:01

I read this somewhere and thought surely not, thats evil. But it wouldnt surprise me now.

DogCalledRudis · 28/07/2014 17:57

SSD, they are not allowed jam, fruit juice, textiles, plastic toys, wood for making furniture...

PigletJohn · 28/07/2014 18:07

there is more about Israel's illegal blockade of Gaza

The practice of delaying even authorised shipments so that the rot before delivery, is like the cruel and arbitrary treatment of Arabs wishing to pass through Israel's control points. Depending on the whim of the Army officer, or the varying mood of the Israeli government, passage may be delayed or prevented capriciously, or as a collective punishments or all Arabs by an act thought or suspected to have been carried out by another. This is of course illegal under international law, which is of no concern to Israel.

DogCalledRudis · 28/07/2014 18:19

Israel is clearly taking a piss of international law

Just returning to this thread after the weekend and would like to correct something up thread.

dingalong makes an inspiring point about international funding to build up Palestine. I think we all crave peaceful alternatives to the bloodshed that is so heartbreaking to watch. And then PigletJohn pipes up with the hate-filled and fallacious assertion that Israel would try and destroy it.

In fact much of the hospitals and public facilities in the West Bank are Israeli-built. And indeed Palestinians are treated in hospitals in Israel (including the grand-daughter of the Hamas prime minister). After the Israelis withdrew from Gaza in 2005, the Hamas government itself destroyed the infrastructure that was left behind for the Palestinian people's benefit as it was Israeli and therefore hateful to them.

Great article debunking the favourite Israeli myths m.huffpost.com/uk/entry/5624401

Backinthering · 28/07/2014 19:44

runes that is an excellent article. I'm getting so sick of hearing the same old apologist shit.

runes · 28/07/2014 19:53

I know back. It's utterly depressing Sad

scratchandsniff · 28/07/2014 19:54

I've just come across this thread. I have been absolutely sickened by news reports in Palestine. I felt somewhat ignorant about the Gaza strip, Hamas etc and did some research as I wanted to know both sides of the story.

Call me naive or stupid, but from what I can make out Israelis are brought up to absolutely hate Palestinians and basically want to wipe them out. You could say Hamas are no better but would they have come about if it wasn't for this. It seems to me that hamas are fighting for their rights. The Gaza strip is basically an open air prison. Their food, water, electric, borders are all controlled by Israel.

Nothing I have read makes me feel any sympathy towards Israel.

wannabestressfree · 28/07/2014 20:21

Well said sergeantmajor

babbas · 28/07/2014 20:40

I wonder how apologists would feel if their babies were blown apart today?

The whole world is sick of israel. Except apologists like those on this thread. As Jon snow asked the israeli ambassador today (a nasty piece of work) ' how many more deaths until israel decides to stop?'

wannabestressfree · 28/07/2014 20:52

I would feel the same as anyone else who has lost their child. I would be angry with whoever put me in that situation but Hamas share some of that responsibility. I would feel the same as the Jewish mother burying her child.

Jesus that's a pretty damn offensive set of images for an embassy to be putting up! They've lost their minds....

babbas · 28/07/2014 22:01

Wannabe - keep thinking that Hamas have murdered the palestinians if that helps you deal with the atrocities of the regime you stand by.

We all know what's happening. Only israel could turn the whole world against itself and garner sympathy for Hamas. Idiots.

Rhianna1980 · 28/07/2014 22:01

Backinthering, it's a sign of desperation from Israel's part.

Pangurban · 28/07/2014 22:04

Molly was innocuous enough. They didn't give her a rocket, gun or explosives skirt like the others. I knew that Mona's expression was hiding trouble?

WildThong · 28/07/2014 22:08

Just watching the news. Those poor children and their families. It's heinous what is going on.
