Although restoring the link between state pensions and benefits and RPI means recipents will enjoy a 5%+ increase. Clouds, silver linings etc. :)

LidlVoice · 18/10/2011 19:58

Bunch of bastards. Every last one. DH and I are hoping Thatcher's grave will have a dance floor on top of it.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 18/10/2011 19:58

Correction. CPI.. not RPI.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 18/10/2011 19:59

Oh well, it could have been worse. We could have <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=ed+miliband+image&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=vsF&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&biw=1024&bih=578&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=8VQLmSM8WjKCwM:&imgrefurl=blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/iainhollingshead/100055868/ed-miliband-will-strike-a-note-of-humility-well-that-shouldnt-be-hard/&docid=6izK46DwKW6oUM&imgurl=blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/files/2010/09/miliband_1726276c.jpg&w=460&h=288&ei=WsydTpTPCMephAfXgZGfCQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=655&vpy=142&dur=2496&hovh=178&hovw=284&tx=102&ty=197&sig=111483428645666666297&page=4&tbnh=166&tbnw=253&start=34&ndsp=6&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:34" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this man at the helm

ChickenLickn · 18/10/2011 20:15

CES - Nope. The tories changed the link from RPI (higher) to CPI (lower). This means that while prices are rising fast around us, the poorest will have even less money for food or bills. This probably means more riots on the way.

As the poorest spend the largest proportion of their income, its also more BAD NEWS for the economy, but then the tories always are.

LidlVoice - it will have to be a big dance floor - we'll need dave under it as well. Grin

I will be doing a lot more than dancing on the bugger...I will make sure I have a full bladder Wink

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 18/10/2011 20:26

I presume you'll show the same venom towards Tony Blair - after all, his legacy is pretty shameful. That's if his coffin will close on the wads of paper money he's been making since his welcome exit, of course.

claig · 18/10/2011 20:46

Can we try and keep it decent and avoid emotive terms like 'wrecking'?

Inflation is the way out. Provided they can stop the essentials like food, fuel and energy prices from rising too much, inflation is the way to get out of it. Dave held talks with the energy companies in a bid to stop prices rising. The mood is changing. Osborne has recently said something like we won't bankrupt Britain by trying to save the planet over the greens' carbon taxes, and last night Paxman actually said to Labour's Caroline Flint, something like, "so you want to bankrupt Britain to save the world" over the green carbon taxes etc. The mood is changing, the stranglehold of the carbon cowboys is starting to ease. They will no longer be able to bankrupt Britain to "save the planet".

Inflation and devaluation have always been used to escape dire economic crises like these. Inflation decreases the value of the debt that needs to be repaid. It hits savers and capitalists because the value of the pound in their pocket decreases. Quantitative easing is essentially inflation and is a way of trying to stoke demand to get the economy moving. Inflation helps the debtor and not the creditor; it helps the poor and not the rich; no wonder the Guardian piece makes a hue and cry about it.

Dave and the team are on the side of the people, not thq mega rich investors and not the Guardian.

crazynannawitchbitch · 18/10/2011 21:03

Dave and the team are on the side of the people,

Sorry claig...that gave me my 1st laugh of the day,so thanks Grin
As for let's not get emotive...well people will get emotive at the decision to put food on the table or electricity on the meter key,so you really do have to excuse all the emotion. If I saw that dickhead right now,I would spit in his face...emotive enough?

claig · 18/10/2011 21:16

I think a little respect for the 'team' is in order. They are only trying to get us out of teh mess that Labour left behind, along with their note about 'sorry, there's no money left'. The 'team' is trying hard to improve the country's predicament. They will get some things wrong, but they will then change their tack. The fact that they are beginning to stand up to the carbon cowboys shows that they are prepared to change.

Dave and the team want to save Britain and its people; they want to save Gotham City from Labour's Joker, Penguin, Ice Man and Ethical Climate Change Man. The Conservatives want to save Britain from the disaster that it was put into by Labour; Labour gave 'light touch regulation' to bankers, knighted some of them and was interested in 'saving the planet'.

Remember Labour's Andy Burnham chastising the 'team' for opposing cuts to the NHS
'Andy Burnham, Health Secretary has accused the Conservatives of being irresponsible by pledging to reverse cuts and changes to A&E and children's services in the NHS.'

www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/7563481/Conservatives-irresponsible-to-oppose-cuts-to-NHS-Andy-Burnham.html

Fortunately, the team refused to listen to Andy Burnham; they preferred to listen to the people.

claig · 18/10/2011 21:26

'save Gotham City from Labour's Joker, Penguin, Ice Man and Ethical Climate Change Man'

If you are owndering who these characters are; they are part of the opposition front bench.

pinkytheshrunkenhead · 18/10/2011 21:31

Of course they are wrecking the country, they are fucking Tories, that is what they do

claig · 18/10/2011 21:36

But that is the type of thing you might hear from Labour, the party that left a note saying 'sorry there's no money left'. The Coalition are not wrecking the country, they are trying to breathe life into a country wrecked and ruined by Labour. They started by restoring civil liberties, just as Batman would have done to oppose the Joker's plans, and now they will try to restore prosperity. The Joker will sneer and crack jokes from the sidelines, but that won't be able to stop the team doing what needs to be done.

chandellina · 18/10/2011 21:43

the bank of england has missed their inflation target for two years - not really something to lay at the door of the Tories.

crazynannawitchbitch · 18/10/2011 21:52

You know, keeping blaming Labour 2 years in when everything goes wrong is just making the turd cameron look like a twat. Even when asked about Liam Fox's fuck ups,he still wailed about "the mess Labour left" Now seriously,WTF has Labour got to do with Fox and his boyfriend? See...twats.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 18/10/2011 21:55

What are you on about??? Have you had your fingers stuck in your ears for the last 20 years?? We still heard Labour bleating on about Thatcher until very recently - or did that pass you by?!

ChickenLickn · 18/10/2011 21:55

Claig - they left a note saying they had INVESTED all the money. Thats great!

  • much better than the tories who want it all in their personal bank accounts.
OP posts:
Maisiethemorningsidecat · 18/10/2011 21:58

No, the note said "I'm afraid to tell you there's no money left" - a private 'joke' (har, har, how amusing) apparently. Hardly the words of a man who has cleverly invested it all and wants it known, is it?

crazynannawitchbitch · 18/10/2011 21:59

Because it took 20 years to get the nasty taste of the witch out of our mouths, that's why.

ChickenLickn · 18/10/2011 21:59

Its typical to point the finger, but what I have NOT seen from the tories is a sensible plan to sort out all the problems building up here. In fact, everything I have seen from them can only make things worse!

OP posts:
Maisiethemorningsidecat · 18/10/2011 22:01

Well in that case you can't blame Liam Fox (or anyone else) for blaming New Labour 2 years in, can you. We've got another 18 years to rid ourselves of the taste of Tony Blair and his lot.

claig · 18/10/2011 22:02

'they left a note saying they had INVESTED all the money'

I missed that bit, I only heard about the note saying there's nothing left.
If they invested it, can we have it back, can we get a return on their investment. We can't get a return on our gold that they sold at rock bottom, which is now in someone else's hands and going sky high. The British people's gold was sold and is now in someone else's hold.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 18/10/2011 22:05

I think she paraphrased just a teensy bit there, Claig - it was really the only option she had left Wink

ChickenLickn · 18/10/2011 22:05

Gas prices: UP 13%. Electricity: UP 7.5%
