I doubt Polly will be selling her Tuscan villa any time soon, but it will be a wonderful day when the BBC's in-house journal gets what it deserves.

Elburro Good analysis. Smile

You might be interested in this blog post on potential future strategies for the Guardian.

"The Guardian needs an intervention. Digital first will not be enough to save it. It needs to remember that although they are supported by a trust, that is not a licence to completely ignore business realities.."

meditrina · 18/06/2011 16:06

All areas of the print media are suffering a decline; some are doing better than others in soft form The "traditionally" left-wing press appears to be doing worse. This is probably a reflection of people wanting to get their news in a form that suits their views.

tethersend · 18/06/2011 16:08

I really do love claig.

And I am one of those malicious loony lefties with the ugly thoughts Wink

claig, I rarely agree with you, but you argue well and I have never seen you descend to kneejerk name calling.

I also love LFN as she is doing a better job promoting left-wing views than all of the Labour party put together Grin

tethers, love you too Grin.
(P.S. The cheque is in the post)

claig · 18/06/2011 16:15

Thanks, StayFrosty Smile. But this is starting to get expensive and the cheque book is taking a hammering.

PelvicFloor0fSteel · 18/06/2011 17:22
I wonder how long it'll be before they have an article on mumsnet causing cancer?

Claig I do respect you as someone who stands up for their beliefs, even though it's not a popular view, I just happen to think you're wrong and the mail is awful Grin. Much better to do that though, than be one of the people who claims to hate it but then posts links to it, it annoys me when I unwittingly click and end up there, at least with you I know it's going to happen!

FridayFanjoFun · 18/06/2011 17:24

OP, you really are quite a vile human being, aren't you?

PMSL at the Mail being 'one of the world's greatest newspapers'.

hahahahahahaha

Okey dokey, then

claig · 18/06/2011 17:34

39.6 million people can't all be wrong.
You are right that it is preposterous to say that the Daily Mail is 'one of the world's greatest newspapers'.

It is in fact the world's greatest newspaper.

www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/apr/19/mail-online-website-popular

FridayFanjoFun · 18/06/2011 18:05

39.6 million people are probably looking at pics of Kim Kardashian's arse, claig.
It is cheaper than OK magazine, that is all.

The 'journalism' is pathetic - badly researched, badly written, often laughable.

Nancy66 · 18/06/2011 19:11

you're confusing the website with the newspaper - the website is hugely popular but it's all about speed - being first to get a showbiz story up - and, yes, the standard of writing is pretty poor. It gets large international traffic and most people are reading the showbiz content. So, effectively, it's an entertainment site.

The standard of writing in the newspaper is not poor though - in fact it's probably the best on Fleet Street - and, yes, I do work there but I say that having also worked for: The sun, News of World , Observer and S.times too.

bibbitybobbityhat · 18/06/2011 19:13

Only had to look at the thread title in active convos to know that the op would be longfingernails.

Do you get pleasure out of being so predictable?

said · 18/06/2011 19:13

Why are you threatened by a newspaper that disagrees with you?

Nancy66 · 18/06/2011 19:14

BTW all newspapers are making job cuts and have been for about three years.

FridayFanjoFun · 18/06/2011 20:13

I'm not 'confusing' anything. I was a journalist for 10 years and read the DM every day as part of my job. Sadly.

The best on Fleet St? I found it had/has a very poor reputation in the industry and does not attract genuinely talented writers. The tabloids have far better subs, too.

Don't get me started on Femail. Vile.

Nancy66 · 18/06/2011 20:22

It absolutely doesn't have a bad reputation in the industry - quite the opposite.

CateOfCateHall · 18/06/2011 20:56

@PelvicFloorOfSteel: Here's another Daily Mail song:Grin

theyoungvisiter · 18/06/2011 21:03

I actually think Longfingernails is a labour party candidate with time on their hands.

As a portrayal of your typical Tory voter it's just too wonderful.

bibbitybobbityhat · 18/06/2011 21:08

I'd love to know who longfingernails is, actually.

I'm not getting the impression s/he is a parent trying to make other parents lives easier Hmm.

S/he contributes nothing to this site other than pro-Tory anti-Labour bullshit.

Would like to see her/him banned, but that's not very realistic.

theyoungvisiter · 18/06/2011 21:11

Bibbity - on the plus side I think she's probably done a lot for the labour vote on mumsnet.

allegrageller · 18/06/2011 21:18

Longfingernails spouts exactly the same bollocks as yer standard Tory Troll on Guardian Comment is Free etc. Blah Labour destroyed country, blah champagne leftie hypocrites, blah workshy feckless tarts etc etc. A number of these types seem to be springing up on here too.

I think rightwingers with time on their hands and repetitive drum beats in their heads are trying to infiltrate digital media to show us all the Truth. And God it's dull.

Riveninside · 18/06/2011 21:23

I saw the Guardian being malicious this week about families with disabled children losing money. They were highlighting how many will be stuck in poverty.
Is that malicious? Or should they be doing what the Mail does and accuse disabled people of being faking scroungers?

But i am impressed LFN managed to get both the Beeb and the Guardian into one sneeering post.

EightiesChick · 18/06/2011 21:30

Cheers, longfingernails, you've made me resolve to buy the Guardian more days a week and subscribe to its membership thingy.

Nancy66 · 19/06/2011 10:47

It's sad if an established, national newspaper goes under no matter what your politics - but I think The Guardian is a long way from that. The Indie, unfortunately, is not.

complimentary · 20/06/2011 11:17

LFN. Keep posting! Your posts are very informative, particularly when you write of the demise of the Guardian! It's losses are only 33 million? I'm surprised this little North London rag exists at all! It only has a readership of some 175.00 a day! compared to the Daily Mails 2.5 million.
Weblette. I don't think the Daily Mails going anywhere do you? LFN. I hope the paper does 'die a long lingering death' It's a pretentious old rag that sneers at the working classes. As I've said before my post office/newsagent only gets 5 copies and there are always two copies left at the end of the day! Long live The Daily Mail, Telegaph and Times!Grin
