Christian Prayer thread for late Autumn - keep praising when the leaves are falling and it isn't Christmas

A week or so ago there was a post in the prayer thread from TinkerbellesMum which I quote here in full because I think she has something important to say:

"I don't normally post in this section or this thread, but I wanted to share something that my sister's Pastor said a few months ago at a Dedication because on a regular basis I'm logging into MN and seeing it come to truth again and again.

He said that the devil has started an attack on children.

If you look through this year you will see so many children have died in really horrible circumstances, we've not seen anything like this happening before.

Please when you pray can you include our children in general, ask God for His protection over our own, each others' and the unknown child. Ask for Him to send His angels to fight against this attack."

We've only got to remember Baby P to know that terrible things are happening and that the only weapon we have against the forces of darkness is prayer. That is a strong weapon and a weapon that will bring results for the safety and security of our own children but also as TM says "the unknown child".
So can I encourage you all to praise God for our children and to set side a few moments to ask His protection on them, but also to pray protection over the millions of children which don't have the quality of life that they should have.

We then pray for our unborn children:- Swaliswan's, Boffinmum's and of course Tinkerbellesmum's own baby. Also for the other children in those families.

We remember those with health problems:
Belgianbun's sister recovering from an operation. OJ who goes to hospital on Monday to have a lump investigation - please God, no more trouble.
Zipadisuzy's dh who fell off a ladder and has cracked ribs and for Suzy who is picking up his workload.
NSFN struggling with depression, praying that this will not continue all winter.
And we give thanks for M44's ds2 who is on the mend but pray for dd1 who is still struggling with a broken arm.

We pray for those who are struggling with various issues:- CaptainDippy, Peachy, FAQ (praying that her babysitting problems can be resolved to enable her to continue as church organist) and CaptainCaveman.

And so to all of us who are part of this small community and who will always pray for one another:- MaryBS (continued prayer for BIL and MIL), Amber, Jentlydoesit (good news at the eye hospital) Myjobismum (good news about ds's behaviour at preschool), NowWeAreFour (continued prayer as requested for her nanny, PandaG and NotQuiteGrownUp (will she ever?)
Also we remember RevJustabout in her work with the Reluctant Worshippers.
And so we come before our Heavenly Father Who hears all our prayers and answers them in His own way. Thanks be to God

Oh Mary, what fab news, it wasn't all wishful thinking then. God is truly good and answered our prayers. And just before Christmas too. Is he being looked after?

Gosh I'm slightly in shock, can we have some prayers for our Vergers wife. Rang my vicar to discuss something totally different (like the fact I'm not playing for midnight mass tomorrow night because my good friend who was going to come and sit with the boys is leaving for London early Christmas day to be with the 7yr old daughter of a close friend of hers who died 2 weeks ago -so prayers there for that family).

And was told that our Verger died on Sunday night/Monday morning. Went to bed and never got up.

He was the one I had a run in with over several things with the music, he a hardcore traditionalist, me more liberal and modern (with a bit of tradition thrown in where appropriate). The last run in was over whether, with a congregation of about 10 the psalsm should be said or sung - I won that one - with the support of the congregation.

However, beneath the surface he was a lovely man. And when at the last Evensong we had I had to take the DS's with me, and juggle trying to keep DS3 quiet and playing the organ he came up to me afterwards. I expected him to moan about the noise they'd made - but instead he put his hand on my shoulder and said "thank you" and I could tell that the way he said it was a genuine thank you for playing, even thoug you had to contend with the boys and could easily have said you had to leave and go home.

MaryBeWaiting · 23/12/2008 22:36

FAQ, that's really sad

DO - yes he is being looked after, there is a community supporting him.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 23/12/2008 22:41

It is,I've never really got on with him, quite a personality clash really - he left the choir not long after I took over as he didn't like the way I did things. But I do feel very anad shocked that he's gone.

He was often quite unpopular with his attitudes, but behind the scenes he did an awful lot and he's going to be really missed.

He appointed himself verger lots of 's around the church at that. But he's the one that changes the altar front for each season/occasion. Moved the chairs around for sservices and when the schools use it. He setsup for the 8am Commmunion on a Sunday morning, took Evensong once a month, managed the bookings for the church and acted as "steward" at virtually all the funerals held in the church. Oh and he was the one that would show the children from the local Infant/Primary schools around the church telling them all about the church history and what various bits of the church were for.

So very active "out of sight.

Praise God the oven is fixed!

Merry Christmas lovelies! May God bring you joy and happiness in 2009.

Mars

amber32002 · 24/12/2008 07:07

FAQ, prayers for you all. Goodness me...and at Christmas, too.

Mary, brilliant news!!

I think we're nearly ready for Christmas. Wrapped presents aplenty yesterday, hubby tried to get last bits in the shop (mostly sold out - drat), son returned from all night party with his teenage mates, dogs keep looking hopefully at the boxes that have chocolates in them (safely out of reach after the Incident two years ago ). Starting to feel Christmassy now.

Prayers for everyone who's stressed out, fed up, wondering what it's all about, dreading the arrival of Great Auntie Doris etc, fearing that something's going to go wrong, trying to entertain irritable overexcited children, or realising that the turkey's still firmly frozen.

notsofarnow · 24/12/2008 07:47

morning all. ds driving me nuts already and he only been up 45 mins. Need to go out carolling with the band in an hour so better get a wiggle on me thinks. Then it will feel really christmasy.

Just finished christmas shopping was a bit close there for a moment, 3dc without pressies Thank you God for steering me to Asda after hunting high and low for a digital camera for dd

Twins really excited now, we've just made the Reindeer food (oats, glitter & sequins) then we scattered them on the lawn, so rudolph will find his way and have something to nibble on stockings hung, table laid, now to make the star of bethlehem with the dts then pressies to wrap and bed! after of course a christmas movie. Love Christmas Eve so much.

Well Merry Christmas to you all, and most importantly...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!

MaryInLabour · 24/12/2008 17:43

Eek! Sooz!

DD wants to go to midnight mass tonight - she has just said she'll go to bed now... I've told her if she's asleep by 7pm, I'll wake her and take her...

We've just been to a really lovely crib service, am starting to feel Chrismassy (but am also fighting potential flu symptoms...

Love and prayers for all on this most JOYOUS of nights!!!

CaptainDippy · 24/12/2008 20:58

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.

What on earth happened CD? Will you tell us in your next Christmas letter. Wow, that was a labour of love, how clever of you to remember, I never can.

Hope your service was good Amber and that your sister was well enough to come.

I'm afraid I took my cold to church this morning, but still managed to sing the descant to "Sing all ye angels.." Only went to church to sing the last verse of that hymn:
Yes Lord, we greet Thee...

No attachment parenting or co-sleeping for Mary though:-
She wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger.

Whizzing in - Oliver poorly with bronchiolitis. Just spent 2 hours at emergency gps with him. Bless him, he really is well in himself but sounds like an ex-miner puffing on 50 per day! Prayers much appreciated.

Also, dsis' ex-p arrived on Christmas Day to visit his dd (my dneice). He shoved my dsis in the stomach then tried to 'kidnap' dneice. Dsis called the police but he left before they arrived, and took all of dneice's christmas presents with him . Dsis and dneice came here for lunch as planned, and have gone to mum and dads for a few days. So at dneice's dad for being so childish. Dsis reckons her ex-p suffers with PMT - pre maintenance tension because he always causes an argument the week maintenance is due!

Love and blessings to you all x

amber32002 · 27/12/2008 08:46

NoroomattheCaveman, I'm about what's happened for your dsis. Heck...is there anything the police can do, though? Prayers for Oliver too. Goodness, you'll be needing another holiday to get over this one...

Prayers for all here

DutchOma · 27/12/2008 10:47

Caveman,Did dsis cope? Without hitting the bottle? Would be massive improvement if she did. Your poor niece though, she is the real loser in all this, isn't she? Prayers for Oliver, bronchiolitis is awful, Z had it last year, I know dd had a really hard time with it. We had a wonderful day with them yesterday, he's just the sweetest little boy ever.
