Christian Prayer thread for late Autumn - keep praising when the leaves are falling and it isn't Christmas

DutchOma · 15/11/2008 20:55

A week or so ago there was a post in the prayer thread from TinkerbellesMum which I quote here in full because I think she has something important to say:

"I don't normally post in this section or this thread, but I wanted to share something that my sister's Pastor said a few months ago at a Dedication because on a regular basis I'm logging into MN and seeing it come to truth again and again.

He said that the devil has started an attack on children.

If you look through this year you will see so many children have died in really horrible circumstances, we've not seen anything like this happening before.

Please when you pray can you include our children in general, ask God for His protection over our own, each others' and the unknown child. Ask for Him to send His angels to fight against this attack."

We've only got to remember Baby P to know that terrible things are happening and that the only weapon we have against the forces of darkness is prayer. That is a strong weapon and a weapon that will bring results for the safety and security of our own children but also as TM says "the unknown child".
So can I encourage you all to praise God for our children and to set side a few moments to ask His protection on them, but also to pray protection over the millions of children which don't have the quality of life that they should have.

We then pray for our unborn children:- Swaliswan's, Boffinmum's and of course Tinkerbellesmum's own baby. Also for the other children in those families.

We remember those with health problems:
Belgianbun's sister recovering from an operation. OJ who goes to hospital on Monday to have a lump investigation - please God, no more trouble.
Zipadisuzy's dh who fell off a ladder and has cracked ribs and for Suzy who is picking up his workload.
NSFN struggling with depression, praying that this will not continue all winter.
And we give thanks for M44's ds2 who is on the mend but pray for dd1 who is still struggling with a broken arm.

We pray for those who are struggling with various issues:- CaptainDippy, Peachy, FAQ (praying that her babysitting problems can be resolved to enable her to continue as church organist) and CaptainCaveman.

And so to all of us who are part of this small community and who will always pray for one another:- MaryBS (continued prayer for BIL and MIL), Amber, Jentlydoesit (good news at the eye hospital) Myjobismum (good news about ds's behaviour at preschool), NowWeAreFour (continued prayer as requested for her nanny, PandaG and NotQuiteGrownUp (will she ever?)
Also we remember RevJustabout in her work with the Reluctant Worshippers.
And so we come before our Heavenly Father Who hears all our prayers and answers them in His own way. Thanks be to God

You're welcome .

Still no news on FIL... he is still being kept under sedation, I presume to give him chance to get rid of the pneumonia. I HOPE no news is good news, its difficult to know - DH and his family couldn't find anyone to ask yesterday.

JDI - I don't think my DH gets it either

MaryBeWaiting · 20/12/2008 13:11

hello all, happy 4th Sunday in Advent!

continuing to pray for you all - thanks for updating on me CD!

will be offline for most of the hols, so if I am not back before then, wishing you all a very happy CHristmas and peaceful New Year

Clockface · 21/12/2008 17:33

Hello all!

Ds much better today, thank God! . He slept really well last night so I think that's helped no end. Amd again, thanks be to God, the rest of us haven't succumbed to whatever it was, so that is a real blessing.

Praying for your FIL Mary.

I preached this morning on the angel's visit to Mary - four hours' preparation for a 10 minute sermon! . I had lots of nice words from people afterwards. Now I've just got to do the crib service on Christmas Eve and the Christmas Day family service and other than that it's time for a well earned rest! as I am having a week off with the dc between Chritmas and New Year. I am not on here much these days so if I can't get back on, merry Christmas to you all and a happy new year!

(I like these festive smilies!)

CaptainDippy · 21/12/2008 18:41

So glad DS is much better CF Festive smiles are goooood

notsofarnow · 22/12/2008 08:18

morning all. Just popping in to say I know I don't post enough but never forget you. xdh came to carol service last night first time he's been to church (well our church) in two years. It was hard for him but he's done it. Also brought the new family which was really nice we took up a whole row lol.

Right off to take dog to vets he's licked himself raw and its driving him nuts.

Then off on the great turkey hunt. Can't believe i've not had one sat in freezer for weeks.

God is good

CaptainDippy · 22/12/2008 08:42

Hey nsfn - glad XH came to the service

I'm off to my mum's in an hour or so - will be there til Christmas Day after lunch so I'll wish you all a very Happy Birthday to Jesus now Please pray for us all as we stay iwith my mum, we don't have the greatest relationship and apparently she's going Flu. The Joys!!

Hope you all have lovely Christmasess

NoroomattheCaveman · 22/12/2008 10:34

Sorry for lack of posting, I never seem to get a minute to myself.

Thank you for your prayers for Peter, our church warden, sadly he passed away last Tuesday . I found out when I went to church yesterday. Brilliantly though, I could really feel Peter's happy spirit in church, like he was there with us. Does that sound odd? I didn't know him well at all, just to say Hi to and exchange pleasantries.

Praise God for the beautiful sunny day we have here today

notsofarnow · 22/12/2008 13:46

praise God for being able to feel Peter's spirit and no that doesn't sound odd at all. We've had a beautiful morning here dc have been out in the garden playing and i've been vacing up yet more leaves - oh the joys. Its drizzling now but thank God for the lovely morning.

M44 · 22/12/2008 18:01

Christmas greetings to you all! Have been reading all your posts and praying!
Really busy in M44 land- do watch out for the daily telegraph front page on Wednesday- angelic children with Christingles- one of them is mine!!!

Have a peaceful Christmas one and all.

P.S. Very excited about the New Year- have a place on retreat for the first weekend of the year- God's timing is fabulous!

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 22/12/2008 21:26

DutchOma THANK YOU so much for the lovely surprise I got this morning.

Knock came at my door at 9.15. Opened it and vaguely recognised the person standing there, but not totally, she then went on to say that (your RL name) had given her this stuff on Saturday and asked her to pass it on for me and the DS's for Christmas.

I said thankyou and took it inside, and as if all the lovely goodies inside the bag weren't enough the contents of the card were a lovely gesture too.

I was actually waiting for a taxi when she came, to go to the station to take the DS's to London for the day, so the contents of that card were added to our treat money for the day -

THANK YOU (again)

And you know what, I was going to buy some Stollen on Saturday when I went shopping (as I absolutely love it) but didn't as I didn't think the ones in Morrisons looked that good for the price. And now I have some gorgeous looking Stollen cake to munch on

DingdongZIPPILYonhigh · 23/12/2008 09:04

Love to you all at this beautiful time of year, (alongside lurgies)

Prayers for all of our dc to enjoy their pressies, still havent got mine better get a wriggle on, prayers for something to spring to mind

Fab name FAQ

amber32002 · 23/12/2008 10:44

Prayers continuing for everyone. Had a phone call from an old friend today thanking me for being a lovely person, which has really made my day. Praise God for lovely friends!

ChristMarsSleighdy · 23/12/2008 11:44

Hey all, Mars here (racing through as usual).

Okay. First praise!

My client is doing very well. Had a wonderful birth. So praise God and thank you all for your prayers.

Second: requests

I have another client due and I really don't want her to go into labour before her EDD and especially not on Christmas day.

My oven isn't working. The company couriered over a part and an engineer is coming this afternoon. Please let it be the right part and my oven be fixed otherwise the turkey will be a wee bit pink! lol

Thank you. Now to take DT2 to the doctors to have his wounds checked. He headbutted a glass door and lost! He's fine. Cut forehead and arms but Praise God nothing serious.

Mars xxx

DutchOma · 23/12/2008 12:33

Glad you enjoyed it FAQ. The stollen actually came from Lidl's and I think it was marvellous value for the price. Hope you had a nice day in London.
I am feeling a little sorry for myself with a cold that thankfully waited till all our singing was done on Sunday and a bit of a sore tummy, but that may be the onions in the spaghetti bolognese we had for dinner.
Dh is doing my stint in the shop.
Prayers for your clients Marsy and for you and your dt2. Silly boy.
My nephew and his wife have just had dtwins, boy and a girl. I saw pictures last night and they are sooo yummie.

Prayers for all.

OP posts:
goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 23/12/2008 12:37

it still looks nicer than the Stollen in Morrisons

I was a little confused until I opened the card as she said your RL name, and I don't really know her that well, just seen her in passing once or twice so couldn't really figure out who she was/who it was from.

But was a lovely thought, thank you (again).

I bought a load of packs on value biscuits, but hadn't yet got round to putting them into the biscuit tin, so they've now gone into the cupboard until after Christmas and we'll have the nice biscuits over Christmas instead .

DutchOma · 23/12/2008 13:05

She is my son's mother-in-law and helps your vicar with her cleaning. We had dinner with them on Saturday and very nice it was too.

OP posts:
goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 23/12/2008 13:07

yes I knew she was my vicars cleaner, I remember you explaining when you gave her that card to drop in to me in the summer - I just couldn't place her at the time (being in a mad panic to make sure I caught my train and all that ).

JentlyDoesIt · 23/12/2008 14:47

FAQ - what a lovely surprise and I hope you had a good time in London...

Just dashing by to wish you all a very Happy Christmas from the Jently household. Hope you all have a lovely time.

Will post again after Christmas now.

Much love to you all and many thanks for being such a lovely and supporting bunch of people in 2008.

J and brood. xxxx
