Lily Philips - can she be a 'true' Christian?

This article made me think about what it means to be Christian especially about the concepts of sin, judgment and redemption.

In my view Lily of course is a Christian being baptised but to not give up a lucrative adult film career possibly does cause angst amongst more traditional Christians.

We are taught not to judge 'Let those without sin cast the first stone' and to accept the universal unconditionally of forgiveness. (We pray every day about the forgiveness of sin) so it is difficult thologically to condemn others.

However does any fellow Christian need to remind Lily she makes money from a profession where many women with less choice are coerced and manipulated for thr gratification of men? Wr have moved away from a less judgmental Christianity but how do you view participation in Christian life with such a job?

LP Baptism

Lily Phillips has been baptised. I pray it's accompanied by change

The baptism of a pornographic actress has caused controversy, but the real question isn't whether Lily Phillips' sins are too great for God's grace - it's whether she truly understands what repentance means, says Lois McLatchie-Miller

Not to that question I asked. I never saw it anyway.

Just checked, and nope. You did not answer that question.

I don't have to answer any questions from you - go and annoy someone else.

Good question....I think with effective abandonment of the premise of hell in modern anglicanism then even the Arch Bishop of Canterbury would find it a challenge answering that one.

Good st Vladimir the Great or St Paul and if these two made it there isn't a problem with Lily at all

Seems a really simple core question to me. But you appear reluctant to answer.

It was @Justmerach who inspired that question in me when they posted that study on attendance. And if I felt inspired to ask it, who knows where that inspiration came from.

It appears an important question to ask given the subject. And I don't think I have seen it asked.

Will you answer ?

Thanks for saying good question.

Will you answer it ? You have added your condition for being with Jesus.

It's all about redemption. My personal view is that redemption is open to all. The Catholic idea of purgatory as a sort of penance might be a partial answer?

Catholic Purgatory is really complex I think.

Whatever Happened to Purgatory? | Catholic Answers Magazine

There seems to be mixed messaging if it exists or not for Catholics these days.

But nope. this is a back to basics question. You said she goes to Jesus forever if she repents. So without even getting into what repent means, what happens to her is she dies without repenting?

Whatever Happened to Purgatory?

Protestants believe that when a faithful Christian dies, God instantly purifies that person. This belief ignores the fact that salvation requires a response on the part of the individual.

As you mentioned the Archbishop of Canterbury , recall my post above replying to @Justmerach on 1 Tim 2:12. Imagine the scenario that Jesus comes back, judges her, and says he was serious about that verse.

Where does the Archbishop of Canterbury go ? It's the same question.

And while @MrsHubbardhasnoshoe complains about me "derailing" and " "hijacking" this thread, I am asking questions that some Christians don't appear to want to answer. And I have just asked the base question.

Where does Lily Philips go when she dies ?

I mean really, I might have been inspired to ask these questions by "something". Who knows?

And this strikes me in a way. Because almost all of my Bible debates online have been with US evangelicals. And they are not shy. I have been called a demon, I have been cursed to burn in hell, I have even been called Satan himself.

But circumstances happed that I started posting on MN. And UK Christians online are very different from the US variety. And it is not because US evangelicals are avid Bible readers and brits are "Cultural Christians" who don't know the Bible. No, Christian posters on here know the Bible. Some know more than me.

So why avoid answering the question?

Where does Lily Philips go when she dies ?

Nobody knows here what will happen to Lily. It is not generally good to judge and condemn other Christians to hell and especially those who do not know their story.
To answer your question unless she is considered very saintly she likely will rest in the ground until the Lord returns. I think when Christ returns if you are a believer you will be taken with him to heaven or new earth.

Whose knows, you know what the Bible says about people who do not believe. I will add though I think that there may be exceptions. Some people may have a profound disability not allowing them to read scripture or to discover Christ and may not able to discover a faith and God may have exception on them. Those who lost their lives as a child may see exception to.

Those who have been traumatised in formative years it may not be so clear cut. Whose knows Lily's story-I don't know if she had abuse in her formative years.
Some believing Christians do not judge themselves as having made it to eternal life yet and some do and they know about the possibility of not making eternal life. .
Saying that I think hell may be quite different in the pit of hell than someone who was good who was quite absent about God in their life. Hopefully life won't look to dissimilar than it may look now for those in that group.

Can't you just say where you think she will go when dead ?

Beyween you and @mids2019 we now have 2 conditions added, and no clear answer. Mids added the "repentance" condition, you added a "when Jesus comes back" condition.

But the question has not been answered.

Parker231 · 09/08/2026 17:36

It amuses me that the Bible says that people who die without faith in god (including atheists) face separation from god. Not sure how that can happen when atheists don’t believe god exists in the first place- yet another Bible inaccuracy.
It all seems a control mechanism for those who do believe - worship me or else!

I cannot judge her, I don't know how she will be when she dies. I can just talk generally. If she is judged as a believer she will have eternal life

(John 6:47) “ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

(Matthew 7:21-23)- " Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

You are not asking a general question. I have written even for myself I wait to find out if I have made it through to eternal life. This is done due to faith and grace. Some Christians think they have got through without being witnessed at the end. Now, I myself try not to worry about it and don't really think about hell much. If i don't think it much for myself-I am not likely to consider her case more than generally. As you said it is her life and she will be determined and I wish her well. Hell is a risk that is there generally and that is biblically what scripture confirms.

You’re going to be mightily pissed off if you end up in hell after all this worshipping and rule following you’ve done 🤣

Jesus said there will be gnashing of teeth at the end of times to and well and a life in hell would be sad. I would be pleased though that they had been a good father to me whilst on earth and that cannot be taken away, I will never regret.

Who had been a good father on earth?

God the father. Jesus has been kind to and so to has the Holy Spirit to me. God approves his Son's decisions on earth. It is Jesus who sends believers the Holy Spirit comforter and the Holy Spirit can walk with you on your journey on earth. They can be known as God on earth to.

I am a bit of a cradle Christian having grown up with the faith since a child so as a young child Jesus I felt acted fatherly towards me to. Someone who is only say 6 you may see someone much older as fatherly to who has such an impact on your life from a young age and grown up with them..

St Paul reached heaven after declaring his faith after a life of condemning Christians and helping stone them. It is therfore obvious that redemption is key to being a Christian and those who have sinned before redemption get eternal life. Sins are forgiven.

The question is in my mind if Lily makes a conscious decision to seek redemption and atonement at 70 when her career (I would think is over) does this not lead to a conclusion that in a practical leading a moral life does not lead to benefit (in terms of ascension to heaven etc.)
