Atheists desecrate country church

peasporridge · 19/04/2025 08:12

The perpetrators drew vulgar graffiti on the wall of the church an also wrote "God is a lie".
They also desecrated about 40 gravestones.

This is particularly distressing because a wedding is scheduled today (Easter Saturday)

This clearly demonstrates that Christianity is under threat.from the secular lobby.

I agree. Religion should remain in the domain of family, home and church. Teaching about religion is useful - RE was one of DC1's favourite GCSEs, it also included ethics and philosophy and taught them a lot about critical thinking. But if you want your child taught at school that your faith is the only true one, that should sit within the domain of private education. There should be no state funding for religious schools of any denomination.

OK, well then get together with Curlew Kate and set about changing the system.

Blimey. And they say Christian privilege isn’t a thing!

What a lovely snarky response.

I guess that would be those "Christian values" that we're all supposed to cherish...

There are dozens of activities available for teenagers and young people in the area and around it -

https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractions-g1076986-Activities-Leyland_Lancashire_England.html

https://theactivitypeople.co.uk/en/venues/adrenalin-activities/leyland-lancashire/oTown-21325

Leyland offers a variety of clubs for teenagers, including sports clubs like swimming, football, rugby, and athletics, as well as youth centers and community groups. The Zone in South Ribble offers a range of activities and support, and St. Andrew's Church has youth groups for teenagers.

Sports Clubs:
Swimming: Leyland Barracudas is a competitive swimming club.

Football: Fox Lane Sports Club offers junior football, and Leyland Pirates Football Club provides both recreational and competitive options.

Rugby: Leyland Warriors Rugby Club offers rugby league opportunities.

Athletics: Chorley Athletics and Triathlon Club is a nearby option.

Youth Centers and Community Groups:
The Zone in South Ribble: Offers a variety of activities and support.

St. Andrew's Church, Leyland: Youth groups for teenagers.

Leyland Playscheme (Official): Provides activities and support for young people, including trips.

I live in Leyland. There is very little for teenagers and an awful lot of teenagers hanging around. The sports clubs have to be paid for, require parents to both pay and take you along/support you in getting to away matches etc. which is simply not possible for a lot of the parents around here. There is significant deprivation in parts of Leyland. 1 small youth zone is not enough to engage all the teenagers in town, especially as they get older. Me and my husband are genuinely quite concerned about bringing our kids up in this town but unfortunately all of the much nicer (read more middle class) villages around us are significantly more expensive to buy houses in, unsurprisingly.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Maybe you could come up with some practical solutions to tackle what you are actually aggrieved about?

I have no reason to disagree with you.

However, as the suspect in custody is 30 years old the "bored teenager" angle seems to have been scotched.

We will have to wait for developments.

@peasporridgeCan you explain why you think Christians should have things organised for their benefit in state funded schools in a country where less than half the population consider themselves to be Christians?

MaybeNotBob · 29/04/2025 23:23

What makes you think none of us are campaigning to change things?

The trouble is, your have your bishops in the legislature, and yet you claim not to have any privilege...

I don't have to explain my thought processes to you or anyone else and quite frankly find you belligerent and aggressive. So I won't be engaging any more,.

Tony Blair tried to reform the House of Lords. As you are aware on 7 November 2001 the (Labour) government undertook a public consultation. This helped to create a public debate on the issue of Lords reform, with 1,101 consultation responses and numerous debates in Parliament and the media. However, no consensus on the future of the upper chamber emerged. So it seems it wasn't that popular.

"The trouble is, your have your bishops in the legislature, and yet you claim not to have any privilege".
Well you've got that wrong, I'm RC so they aren't my bishops.

@TalipesmumYep. No one would have to miss out on anything. Nobody would have to be marked out as different. A teacher wouldn’t have to waste time. But there’s no such thing as Christian privilege.

No such thing?

Almost every Christian holiday in this country is a bank holiday.

As always stated C of E bishops in the house of Lords and school assemblies.

Schools paid for by the tax payer.

Priority in admission for your children to many schools.

Acts of violence carried out by Christians are not reported as being because they are Christian. I'm old enough to remember London Birmingham and Manchester (among others) being bombed.

If you give evidence in court the default oath is on your holy book.

Sorry @sashhI’m with you. “”No such thing” should have been in inverted commas! Or in the much needed IronyFont

CurlewKate · 30/04/2025 14:00

@peasporridgeThe problem is that when you’re used to privilege, the mildest challenge feels like aggression.

Still doesn't lend much to your secularist lobby/disgruntled Protestants/false flag theories.

Too funny. Really. It seems you can’t handle a little free speech and discussion if you discover you are in the minority—even for a moment.

When you defend a right for yourself that isn’t shared and equitable with others that is privilege.

You chose the thread title and made your OP. It's a bit rich to accuse other people of 'making a link' when you were the one posting about 'secularist forces'.

Itsnotmyjobtoeducatestupid · 09/05/2025 12:37

The reason why Church Schools both CofE and RC are funded was when the original Education Act instituted free state education it was the Catholic and Church of England Schools that provided the majority of schooling to the poor at a time when only the rich/ middle classes could afford it.

The churches own the land and those school buildings were taken over and swallowed up into the State Education System we now see today.
The costing would be unheard of and unimaginably expensive which no government of any political persuasion would want to touch/ deal with.

My biggest bug bear as a state teacher is that the catchments of community state schools are so ridiculous small. This in turn creates pockets of wealth areas for those who can afford to move to the street of that school.

The Church schools use diocese or parish so opens it up - I would like to see a school swap! So many Church parents don't get their chosen school and so many non Christian or of other faiths/No faith parents don't get their community school.
It could be like House Swap but School Swap!! silly idea I know.
