@ShodanLives Why are you being argumentative? I wasn't criticising anybody for not being sure - I want people to seriously think about it! (because I care).

@Vincitveritas if you look up the 42 Laws of Ma'at you will find that not only do they have pretty much everything in them that the 10 commandments do, they also date from well before the Bible was a twinkle in anyone's eye. They're a bit repetitive in places, but they place the same reverence to one's god(s) in multiple laws, as well as having some really sensible laws for living that the commandments do not have. The 10 commandments are basically a condensed down version with the human element taken out and perfection demanded. You'll have to forgive me for preferring the Egyptian version. There's really nothing new under the sun, and you'll find the same common laws about how we should treat each other in all major and many minor faiths.

I guess the point I am making is that you believe there is only one right way to do things. I believe there are very many.

MamaDollyorJesus · 15/03/2023 21:04

25-45% chance of getting into Heaven... oh well if I end up in Hell it won't be so bad at least it'll be warm & there will be people I know there!

Vincitveritas · 15/03/2023 21:09

That's fair enough @pointythings but you have to understand from my perspective, that's not going to do you any good at the Last Judgement.

Sorry for the typos - my screen has seen better days!

@Parker231 How can you be so sure? What happens if you're wrong?

It doesn’t make any difference when you die as to how you lived your life - you end up cremated or in a whole in the ground. Everyone is equal in death. Saying that someone will go to hell if they were a ‘bad’ person (who decided what is good or bad? I have no issues with abortion so not anything bad but do consider committing murder as bad ) is just a cruel and meaningless threat.

pointythings · 15/03/2023 21:14

@Vincitveritas if your god is going to get shirty with me over my Jason Momoa fantasies he can once again do one. Basically he sounds like someone I do not want to spend any time with - the best thing to do with a controlling man is leave, block, forget.

Most people do seriously think about it, they just don't necessarily come to the same conclusion as you.

Jesus doesn't decide who doesn't get and who does get in to heaven.

Jesus isn't God.

Jesus didn't die on the cross.

God is the one who decided who goes to heaven and you have to be a good person and worship him.

So, Interesting that people believe that Jesus died for our sins, so you can be a flawed and sinful person. And you can be a murderer and you can be a prostitute or hurt animals but you are guaranteed heaven because Jesus died for our sins.

There is no verse in the bible where Jesus says I am God it where he says worship me.

The bible says you should not have any other God's besides me
Exodus 20.2

The bible also says God cannot be a man.
Numbers 23.19

Jesus is A Man.
And a great one too. But he is not God.

Jesus also said on the bible, I cant do anything except through the will of my father.
John 5.30 he says by myself I can do nothing, I judge only as my judgement is just, but I seek not to please myself but to please the one who sent me

Jesus also prayed on the floor with his face touching the earth.

Just like Muslims
Matthew 26.36 and Mark 14 35

Jesus didn't eat pork. Just like Muslims the bible says don't eat pork. Just like the quran says. Pigs eat their own poo and have tapeworm and hepatitis yet people still love to eat it. Pigs also sweat internally but yet people still love to eat it. Pigs eat their own young and have multiple partners for sexual intersperse yet they love to eat it.
He also only eat clean meats and didn't eat shellfish.

Jesus was circumcised , just like Muslims. Luke 2.21

Jesus washed himself before he prayed like the Muslims

Jesus was never crucified. Instead he was risen to heaven by God before they got a chance to hang him on a cross. If Jesus was God or son of God, do you really think that he would allow himself or his son to die naked weeing and going to the toilet on himself. Its not at all possible.

Jesus himself said in the bible, do not put me higher than my father. Do not worship me. And
that he is a fellow servant. Throughout revelation

Jesus said in the bible, I have come to split mother and son by the sword. This is not true and not something Jesus would say. He also said he wants to turn fathers and sons against each other.
Matthew 10.35

Jesus also told a woman he isn't going to talk to her because she is like a dog. Not true, again. Jesus would never talk this way.

Matthew 15.21 to 28

Jesus also said he was tempted by the devil by a tree on a mountain. Really, God or son of God was tempted by the Devil????
Come on, really???
Matthew 4.1-11

The bible says the first commandment is not go have any other God's before me. Exodus 20.3

So how the heck are we calling Jesus, God???? Jesus is not God. He cannot be God. He never claimed to be a higher God. So when Jesus was praying, are you telling me he prayed to himself??????? When Jesus was able to heal the blind, he didn't say " Guys, this is all down to me! I did this!' No. He said its through God's will that he did it.

So, happy I left Christianity and joined Islam and love Jesus as a prophet and messenger of God. We believe he will come back. We believe he is the truth, that he was truthful, we belive following him is the way, but he is not the literal God. We believe he is a miracle birth through our lovely Mary, who would you believe wears a hijab like the Muslims do- the bible says to shave your head if you don't wear it.
We don't put Jesus or Abraham, moses or Muhammad or Noah higher than God.

God is one. God is just. Its through him, that we go to heaven. Bu doing the right things the quran teaches us like helping the poor and praying regularly, being a good neighbour and paying charity, being kid and gentle and prophet muhammed himself said before he died his last words were be good to your woman. Because he said the best of us are those who are best to their wives.
The quran teaches us to treat animals with kindness and to be equally kind to your non Muslim neighbour as to your Muslim neighbour and do not cut off ties with family. Its amazing. It really opened my eyes. I am so happy to be a Muslim and recognise Jesus as an amazing prophet who delivered the message of the Lord and will come back and fight the antichrist !!!!
Please he is not God. Please. Lets stop this when he himself said in the bible don't worship me.

Jesus has nothing to do with Islam, Islam was invented by a dude about half a millennia later who appropriated existing stories to give his new way of controlling people providence (much like Christianity and Judaism. Islam was largely invented to win power (like most religions).

What I find much more appealing about the 42 laws of Ma’at (in addition to my connection to her) is that they are written in the positive, about things you did rather than being prohibitive thou shalt not.

It is odd isn't it how Christians think they have a monopoly on moral and ethical living?

pointythings · 15/03/2023 21:45

@OMG12 I so agree with you! As you know I am a total atheist, but there is so much in that list that is about living a positive life in terms of how you care for yourself and your fellow human beings.

OMG12 · 15/03/2023 21:48

Well 88% pagan ( there seems to be some kind of mixup with knives and annexes😀) 65-85% chance of going to heaven. I was hoping for A’aru.

I really wish everyone did some proper research on the origins and development of their religion, most religions now followed borrowed so much from others. That way they could follow the framework that they believe in but have more understanding of the vastness of equally valid spiritual practices.

Hawkins003 · 15/03/2023 22:04

As any religion is written by human's for humans translated by human's then edited by human's, I'm not sure which domain I'll be in

baggyblouses · 15/03/2023 22:43

@Hawkins003 - that's a very good description of religion

65-85% chance of getting into Heaven. Not bad for a militant atheist.

85-99% excellent that another atheist has a good chance 😂

You see, I’ve always thought Dante’s first circle of hell sounds great.

missfliss · 16/03/2023 06:48

One thing that has always confused me about gods / religions - why are they ( supposedly) so obsessed by worship? Why does it matter?

I don't get it

PopsicleHustler · 16/03/2023 07:55

Missfliss the point of Islam, is to worship and submit yourself to one God, whi created the world. To give thanks to Allah for giving us life, water, food, health, family, oxygen, animals and so on. How can we be so ungrateful. When we look at beautiful sceneries, waterfalls, trees etc, how can we not say Wow MashAllah, which Muslims say when they see or taste something nice which literally means Allah has willed it/Allah made it happen.

pointythings · 16/03/2023 09:05

@PopsicleHustler or we can just be grateful for what we have without attributing it to a deity who allegedly created it all... Beautiful waterfalls are not evidence of the existence of a god. They are evidence of the existence of geology and physics.

arctica · 16/03/2023 13:33

You wouldn't say that if you knew what Hell was like. It isn't some massive party.

I dunno, the devil does have the best music.

Vincitveritas · 16/03/2023 13:49

@Parker231 So, I ask again - what happens if you're wrong?

@Elphame I didn't make any such suggestion.

@OMG12 Who is Dante to say whether or not Hell has different levels and what they might involve? The origins of religions vary according to the one doing the research and what might have motivated them to carry it out. There's also much conjecture and false information out there.

@Hawkins003 Yes, my holy book was written by humans, but as I've said elsewhere, I believe it to be 'God breathed' and inspired by the Holy Spirit.

@PopsicleHustler Ungrateful would also be the word I'd use.

He was no less qualified than you. Do you get off on threatening people with eternal damnation?

TuesdayJulyNever · 16/03/2023 13:56

It very much depends whether heaven’s gate keeping is by self righteous religious dickheads in which case I’ll be opting for the other gate anyway.
