Or Wiccans. or Pagans? Or anyone who is interested in a magical path or feels some magical stirrings.

A place for support, learning, swapping ideas and magical inspiration.

Am also making an apple crumble this weekend for Mabon Smile

emanresua · 17/09/2021 11:18

Hello,
Many years ago I was interested in witchcraft, and now it seems my pre-teen dd is following in her mother's footsteps :)
Do any of you have any suggestions for books I could buy her that would be particularly good for a girl on the verge of puberty who is interested in witchcraft? Perhaps something vaguely about new life stages?

speakout · 17/09/2021 11:43

emanresua

Welcome to the thread.

Raising children can be a minefield, and we all have different ideas about how much religious/spiritual influence is best.
My own view is to keep my own practice as separate as I can from my kids.
There is a huge amount of media directed toward the teen witch magic, and I question how helpful it is.
Depending on your daughter's interest I would try to steer her towards books about the seasons, nature, cosmos, plants and botanicals, mineralogy and mythology.

Hello. I'm new here and have been lurking for ages but decided it's definitely time to join you all. I hope the sun is shining where you are, it is here in the Midlands.

A warm welcome. Hot tea in the pot and a comfy cushion. The sun is trying its hardest, but lots of cloud around today. The darkness is coming fast now, trying to sort out lamps and lanterns to light the house and make it cosy in the evening. I hope you are having a magical day.

@speakout thank you. I am going to a much-anticipated yoga retreat later today. And 2 cards jumped out of my deck this morning, Queen of Pentacles and The Empress! So apt for a nurturing weekend spent with 8 other women in nature Smile

speakout · 17/09/2021 12:34

MoonlightMedicine your yoga retreat sounds wonderful, I hope it is soul nurturing for you- sounds by your Tarot pick it will do just the job!!

I hope you enjoy.

Hope you ladies don’t mind me joining. I don’t think I am particularly Wiccan or pagan, more have a respect for the seasons and the earthly cycles.
That said I am interested in reading and learning more and have found this thread fascinating. Hope you all won’t mind me continuing to read.
Ps. Pay no heed to the user name, I just picked it from some strong women who’s stories I enjoyed most in the series - they just happened to be witches!

A warm welcome, always wonderful to have new friends join us.
We are an eclectic mix- as you will have discovered. All are welcome here, ocassional posters, frequent posters, lurkers, all adds to our energy.
Tea in the pot as usual- make yourself comfortable.

Glad to be home after a trip to the post office and the local supermarket in my nearest town- it was so busy, it felt a little unsafe and overwhelming.. The town is quite small, just a main street, one supermarket and a few shops, but I am glad I live a little distance away. It feels so peaceful to come back to a quiet place.
About to start some kitchen witchery, fajita prep for dinner tonight, then pack up some orders to post for tomorrow.
Just having some goddess tea to replenish myself.

Afternoon ladies, gosh it's been an incredibly busy time since I last popped by. Work is snowballing into numerous new opportunities and I've been doing a few more things for myself though the powerful energy of the week has crashed rather today and nothing is going quite right today (I see you Aquarius moon) Little one is poorly so about to down tools and sit tight with mint biscuits and a latch hooking task.I'll slowly tidy and get supper started but not feeling partially clever having been up multitasking since 4am.

Glad you're on the mend @Cerridwen83 I hope it doesn't offend anyone in I mention a bone broth. My mother says don't bury anyone until you've given them a bowl as it's miraculous stuff. As an ex vegan I struggle with it but make it and and hide it in curries.

I love home remedy chat: If you have a sore throat make a pack: wrap cold wet cotton round it and cover totally in dry warm flannel/ brushed cotton and go to bed. My grandmother swore by them, they really help.

Spicy food or having a steam is great, that's my dad's go to.

The weirdest one I do is putting onion on socks and wearing them to bed. You can also put Vicks and then socks on your feet too. (OH thinks I'm mad but it works) also put an onion in your sick room.

I picked elderberries off my little tree and added them to a fig and plum crumble. It was more fruit that I should eat but it was so delicious and such a joy.

I think letting your children go out into the world knowing they'll be hurt and you can't solve all their problems is the most horrid feeling, though very important for them.

I also come alive in the autumn, my mother too.I feel sorry for those that struggle with the shortening days. I love it so.

Had other replies but my eyes are closing and my mind is drifting.

Welcome new sisters, I come bearing fallen holly stalks and mint biscuits. Help yourselves

suzyscat · 17/09/2021 15:26

Oh I wanted to add a cautionary note on tumeric, I hope you don't mind. If an of you struggle with iron levels the curcumin in it inhibits iron absorption. Also there is also a lot of scepticism about this benefits of curcumin in the science community (the only positive trial was led by a chap who retired whilst under investigation and hasn't been replicated successfully) but the science community are also sceptical about a lot of things that are important to me so do with that what you will.

Hope that is interesting or helpful and not the proverbial wee on anyone's chips. Tumeric lattes are delicious and a little of what you fancy is never a mistake.

Cerridwen83 · 17/09/2021 15:44

Thank you @suzyscat!

Thank you for that cautionary note. It was me that suggested the turmeric latte, which is something I do enjoy not just as a pick me up but as a treat. I do suffer with low iron, your caution is well received here!

Warm greetings to the new people to the thread, I am looking forward to learning from you.

I have been pushed to the limits this week. My school is going through a bumpy time which is making it extra challenging being an NQT. I need to work into the evening here, but determined to call it a night then relax over the weekend.

speakout · 17/09/2021 20:20

I had no idea about turmeric, although I believe the studies were done on people taking quite large daily supplements.
Like everything I would imagine quite safe taken sporadically and in low amounts. have to say not a huge fan of turmeric, I do use it sparingly in curries and when making sauces etc, the golden colour is wonderful, but I find the taste a little "dusty".
I love aromatic spices, cardamon latte is heavenly too, and good for colds- but wouldn't surprise me if hat had some downside too!!
My oh makes a very wicked hot toddy for colds, not sure the whole recipe, but includes malt whisky, cardamon, local honey, fresh lemon and cloves. Topped up with hot water one little cup sends me into a fuzzy place!! Not sure if it is very healthy though!!

Magical weekend wishes everyone, I'm loving the flow over here and it's fab to see new names too, welcome!

VioletCharlotte · 18/09/2021 10:07

Good morning sisters. Goodness it's been busy here the last couple of days, I need to catch up. Welcome to all the newcomers.

Im feeling uplifted after a day with all my work team yesterday, some of whom I haven't seen since March last year. Although I much prefer working from home to being in the office, it was lovely to see everyone in real life rather than on a screen.

We're blessed with autumn sunshine this morning. I've just been to the fruit and veg market, it's one of my favourite things to do in a weekend morning. They sell pretty much every kind of fruit or vegetable you can imagine and much better quality than you get in the supermarkets.

Blessings to you all for a peaceful weekend 💫

speakout · 18/09/2021 11:17

Lovely to drop in and soak up all the warm sunny energy on this thread- a wonderful antidote to life's challenges!
I am home and started clearing out some things in the garage tha I don;t need anymore, it feels so good to release stuff and clear space.
OH has picked up on the energy and aken over in there clearing and organising a lot of his stuff too. He is a IT network engineer so you can imagine boxes and piles of cables, components, routers, keyboards- it was spilling out and in such a jumble, but he has put on some music and seems to be in the flow! I am inspired to clear my clothes later today, my wardrobe is packed full, lots of stuff I never use.
There is magic in these mundane acts!

We headed off to a festival yesterday, full of excitement. We abandoned ship this morning and came home. It was a bit too lively (all night noise) for us.
We went out this afternoon to watch a seaside carnival instead and would you know it - I found the most perfect little witch shop in this town. I would never have discovered it otherwise and it even had two things I needed! Such a treasure to find!
Home now and incredibly tired after last night's disruption, and a v early morning too. We're all moving at sloth pace, it will be an early night all round.

speakout · 18/09/2021 20:06

queenrollo sorry to hear things didn;t work to plan, but always a brave move realise that and move on. And your rewards sound wonderful- a witch shop and treasure- perfect.
Winding down here with lots of tea.
My mother has been a bit unwell recently- quite elderly and frail, but on the mend and will be back to church tomorrow. I have received an invite to address the women's group tomorrow after the main service ( not the first time his has happened) to share my "positive approach". The church has no idea I am a witch nor of my ideas! Quite amusing really.

Good evening, sisters.

What's everyone doing for Mabon?
I have just moved and I am still finding my feet in the new community (keep telling myself to give it time!). So,this year it's likely to be a solitary practice.

VioletCharlotte · 18/09/2021 22:03

Speakout that did make me smile! I'm sorry to hear your Mother's been unwell, but glad she's on the mend.

Queenrollo it's a shame the festival didn't work out. Was this IOW? I've been to quite a few festivals but don't think I could do more than a day now. I need my sleep! The witchy shop sounds great though.

TheABC I'm not sure yet, I've been invited to a ceremony but I'm undecided whether or not to go. Lately I seem to prefer solitary practice. I might just do a little ritual in my garden. I sometimes like to bake apple cake too.

speakout · 19/09/2021 08:19

VioletCharlotte Thankyou for your kind words- my mother is back at church today after being unwell , so all good. I have declined the invitation to speak at the woman’s group. My mother is a member of a church tha forbids female clergy, so after the main service man and women split into two groups for chat. The woman’s group is called the Relief Society ( sounds like a brothel to me) and they spend time trying to iron out their “disagreeable” parts and work out how best to serve their menfolk it seems.
TheABC will be baking and cookingfor equinox, a simple ceremony, already started decorating the house, perhaps some divination.
A dull overcast day here, brightened by seeing two deer grazing in my front garden this morning and hundreds of geese arriving overhead, triumphantly honking the end of theiourney- such joy.
Sending magical wishes to this wonderful tribe.

Good morning friends,
This thread is sparking with the most wonderful energy, thank you all for generating such a magical gathering. It’s been a busy week here too and catching up with a tea, soaking up the inspiration and comforting like minded talk is a perfect way to ground and wind down.

Welcome to our new friends, it’s a pleasure to have you join us.

I’m enjoying hearing about plans for the equinox, mine will probably be food based too along with a ritual around balance if that feels right.

I’m loving seeing the dewy jewelled fields in the mornings as I go to work, hazy autumnal sunshine and mist in the valleys. There’s something so special about autumn light I think. Although today is turning out to be a balmy late summer day. I’m soaking up some solar strength for the week ahead.

Apologies for my lack of joining in, my tired head can’t keep up at the moment but I love reading everyone’s thoughts, ideas and musings. Love to all for a magical day

queenrollo · 19/09/2021 10:21

@VioletCharlotte no it was a very small one, that was thankfully under an hour drive from home!
The IOW has never appealed, though we did Bestival for quite a few years (child free!) - my husband is from the Island itself so we're regular visitors usually.
We do have a campervan and at most festivals you generally get peace and quiet in the campsites during the evening - but some of the grass roots type festivals attract a different crowd.

I'm well rested after a very early night. I need to go out and so a food shop as we didn't stock up expecting to be away from home all weekend.
My youngest son is very happy at the news I am still claiming his day off school tomorrow rather than sending him in. As DH has also booked it off work we've decided to make the most of the opportunity to spend time together - he tends to be very busy from Sept onwards.

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/09/2021 09:00

Good morning.

I hope this monday morning finds you well and ready for the new week.

I am drawing to an end of an era in my current role and whilst i have mentally already moved on I am still in role. Which is stressful and feeding the feeling of wanting to be done yesterday. 2 weeks left. I am coping by planning a few days away to reset at the end of it.
Just right now I am very much in my own head.

May you find the nourishment and soothing you need to walk through the week comfortably. Equinox is soon upon us. And I hope to be back to hear all your tales and events. They are always so inspiring
