Welcome to our new prayer thread for summer. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what's going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... ALittleFaith, for her dad to recover well after his recent operation;

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of the ways in which we can work to make life easier for our autistic friends, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes;

... Badvoc and her family, as they grieve for her dad and for her aunt, and also for her decision about her DS's schooling, and for his health;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, we pray for her mum's health, and for health for both her DC, and for her to feel welcomed, accepted and supported at her church;

... BlessedAssurance, for her life with her new baby, for her relationship with her MIL, and for her family who are far away;

... Bluetinkerbell, for her DH's training to go well;

... CharlotteCollins, for her new life as a single mum - may she be happy and fulfilled and supported in it;

... DidotheDodo, thanking God for the safe arrival of her granddaughter;

... DontstepontheMomeRaths, for her life as a single mum, for her finances, for bullying issues around her DD, and for the wonderful work she does through her church supporting people going through separation and divorce;

... DutchOma, as she grieves for Bob, that she may find peace of mind, love and support at this time; also praying for her relationship with her DD, in particular;

... Gingercurl, for her brother who has been out of contact - may be be safe and well, and may he be in touch with Ginger or her sister soon;

... Iwantdogger, for her pregnancy - may her little one hand on in there and grow and develop strong and healthy;

... jan2014 for her decision to split with her DH, and for health and energy for her; also praying for her brother and his family, for his difficulties with alcohol;

... JugglingFromHereToThere, for her sister and her family as they grieve the loss of Juggling's nephew;

... Kaykat, continuing to pray for her and her DS as she goes through the stressful and painful process of divorce;

... MadHairDay, for health for all in the MHD household, and for less stressful times for her DC

... PandaG, as she and her family grieve the loss of her mum;

... PositiveAttitude, as she gets used to living with her DH again after a long time apart and for her new work as a Deacon in her church; also praying for PA's parents' health, and for her DDs and DS in their various situations;

... Question of Faith, for her and for her DH - for his depression to lift and for them to rediscover their love for one another and their lives together;

... Roomforalittleone, for her DS who has pneumonia, and for a good outcome from her Reader panel;

... thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, after the loss of a close family friend, and for the work that she does with others who are bereaved;

... tunnocksteacake and her family as they cope with her DH's illness;

... weegiemum for strength to cope with her illness; and for

... ZingWhale as she approaches the end of her pregnancy.

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors, and those we haven't seen for a while, including: boxofdelights, bountyicecream, CheerfulYank, cloutiedumpling, EasyCompadre, FairPhyllis, fluffieduckie, FriendOfDorothy, GoodbyeRubyTuesday, harbinger, JakeBullet, ktef, LollipopViolet, MaryBS, NeverKnowinglyUnderstood, niminypiminy, notquiteagrownup, PloddingDaily, revivingshower, saintsalive, SchrodingersFerret, SEStheBrave, Soozi, SunshinemMum, thehorridestmumintheworld, trish5000, youretoastmildred, and zulubump, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don't post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God's love.

Calm us, O Lord, as You stilled the storm.
Still us, O Lord, keep us from harm.
Let all the tumult within us cease.
Enfold us, Lord, in Your peace. Amen.

sorry Kay. hoping that ds learns soon.

Tuo · 11/09/2014 12:54

Oh Kay - sorry to hear this, but praying for your and for your DS for peace in your lives and for the truth to be known.

I'm just back from the optician's. There may (or may not - she couldn't see properly) be something dodgy going on in my eyes. I have to go back on Monday so she can have a better look. Feeling stressed about it, but glad I can get the return appointment quickly (flying to US on Tuesday).

Just to let you know it was my uncle's funeral yesterday, it was a sad day to say goodbye but also very happy as the next generation of the family (his grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews) were there to remind us of life carrying on, and to continue the good work of charity and faith that he inspires in us. I sang Be still my soul during communion as it was one of his favourite hymns.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord.
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past
All safe and blessèd we shall meet at last.

Dutchoma · 11/09/2014 14:54

What a comfort to be able to sing that hymn JumpJockey. And so glad the funeral was a blessing to you.

BlackeyedSusan · 11/09/2014 19:03

a that parent update: school have asked that we write in the books they have been reading out of school in their reading diaries... it was issued on Tuesday. I only read this requirement today... so far we have recorded 18 books and that is only the ones we can remember. to be fair she did read rather a lot in the library tonight while ds worked his way through every biff chip and kipper book on the shelf. and I avoided driving in rush hour becasue I find it really scary since the accident

BlackeyedSusan · 11/09/2014 19:04

... and I gradually lost the will to live.

Dutchoma · 11/09/2014 19:05

Definitely a parent to be avoided. Is she a free reader? Zac is 'only' a gold reader.

BlackeyedSusan · 11/09/2014 19:33

they still grade books all the way through KS2 so no free reading in school I think. she is "behind" other children as we have not been playing the game and ploughing through the school books. she reads. I teach reading skills. does not need to be a book from school.

CharlotteCollins · 11/09/2014 21:44

Too true. I still don't know how DS learnt to read, because he more often than not wasn't interested in the school books and I didn't force them. He asked occasional questions about words on packets, and I read to him lots, books that he liked - and then suddenly, he started reading stuff out to me. It felt like a miracle!

CharlotteCollins · 11/09/2014 21:46

(It was well over a year after he'd started coming home with reading books, though - and he always had that look that said, "You and I know I can't read, Mum, but we have to humour the teachers...")

Kaykat · 11/09/2014 23:42

I wouldn't worry about what they read DS read mostly comics and was a top reader right through primary.

Pleased to report that DS was a delight today so maybe he's starting to take all the accusations with a pinch of salt.

Dutchoma · 12/09/2014 07:04

I'm off to see PA this morning. Will be able to read, but not write much. Backson

BlackeyedSusan · 12/09/2014 08:03

have fun

BlackeyedSusan · 12/09/2014 15:02

yay kay. lots of prayer going into it from the board too. seems that your brother may have found a chink in his thinking too.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/09/2014 19:51

another day, another melt down.

SESthebrave · 12/09/2014 20:34

Oh BES , what was the meltdown about?

I'm feeling a sense of achievement as I completed a 17 mile walk yesterday with work to raise money for Macmillan. I am not the fittest person in the world so prayers of thanks to God for getting me through it on time and with no blisters. I am still very achy though so another hot bath beckons tonight!
Prayers for all affected by cancer.

DO and PA - hope you had a good meet up with safe journey.

JumpJockey - what lovely words in that song. I'm not sure I know it so will google it I think.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/09/2014 22:08

they sold out of treats after school. he may have kicked the school door but I don't think he was spotted by staff. it took well over an hour to get him to calm down.

howtoapproachthis · 13/09/2014 07:25

BlackeyedSusan · 13/09/2014 08:59

BlackeyedSusan · 14/09/2014 09:11

it is beautifully quiet here.

I have not had to say... please put the bed away, please do not sit on the end of the bed.. no jumping on the bed, please put the cushions away, please put the duvet away... on repeat this morning. oh the joy. I shall send him out to his house more often.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/09/2014 06:59

please pray. ds was could not sleep. so he was up really late. then he has spent most of the night in my bed. there has not been enough sleep all round.

Tuo · 15/09/2014 10:12

Praying for a quiet day, BES, and for a more restful night tonight.

I wanted to share this Syrian prayer, thinking of Christians under persecution in Syria and Iraq, in particular, but also praying for peace in the Middle East and beyond.

Strengthen for service, Lord,
the hands that have taken holy things;
may the ears which have heard your word be deaf to clamour and dispute;
may the tongues which have sung your praise by free from deceit;
may the eyes which have seen the tokens of your love shine with the light of hope;
and may the bodies which have been fed with your body be refreshed with the fullness of your life. Amen.

Hello, just popping my head round the door after an embarrassingly long absence Blush

Tuo that is a beautiful prayer, thank you for sharing :) I always like prayers and hymns asking God to help us serve. The idea of service is a big part of my faith, and is something I'm thinking a lot about at the moment.

I will echo your prayers for those suffering in Syria, Iraq and throughout the Middle East.

I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers Flowers

madhairday · 15/09/2014 17:06
