A new Christian prayer thread for 2014

Welcome to our new prayer thread for 2014. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what’s going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of autism in churches, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes;

... Badvoc and her family, as they grieve for her dad; prayers too for her aunt who is seriously ill; and prayers for a good recovery from her gallstones operation;

... BananasForTed, praying for her mental health and for her difficult work situation, and also praying that she was able to go back to her church and that she found support there;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, we pray for her mum's health, and for both her DC to receive the support that they need at school;

... BlessedAssurance, when she feels challenged because of her faith at her place of work; also for her pregnancy and for her eye problems;

... BoxOfDelights, for her to find somewhere good to live and a job;

... bountyicecream, thanking God for her renewed happiness after leaving a very difficult and abusive relationship, and praying that she will continue to grow in happiness and strength in the future;

... CharlotteCollinsisinherownplace, giving thanks for her new home and new job;

... Don'tsteponthemomeraths, thanking God that an MRI has shown her brain to be normal, and for the continued progress of her niece, little Grace, born prematurely;

... DutchOma and Bob, for Bob's health to be as stable as possible and for him to receive good care in the hospice; also praying for him to see some glimpses of light in what is, admittedly, a very difficult situation, so that his outlook may be less 'catastrophic'; and praying for Oma that she may find rest and peace of mind and support at this time;

... Gingercurl, giving thanks for the successful completion of her thesis and praying for her viva to go well; also for Ginger’s MIL who has been diagnosed with cancer;

... HadALittleFaithBaby, for all bugs to leave to Faith household; also for her neighbour who has cancer and for his family;

... JugglingFromHereToThere, for a job which interests and fulfils her;

... Kaykat, giving thanks that she is now settled and happy in her new home with her DS, and praying for her DS to cope well with his new situation and not allow his dad to influence him in a negative way; also praying that she will find a welcoming church community in her new place;

... MadHairDay, thanking God for a Christmas spent at home with her family, and praying for continued health in 2014; praying too for health and love and friendship for MHD’s DD;

... NeverKnowinglyUnderstood, for her relationship with her DS and for support for them to understand his anger and frustration and find ways to avoid it if possible;

... niminypiminy, for happiness in her new home;

... octopusinastringbag, thinking of her as she feels drawn to explore faith in more depth;

... PandaG, for her mum's health;

... PositiveAttitude and her family; in particular, at this time, for DD3, praying for a happy end to her pregnancy with no complications; also praying for PA's parents’ health, for her DD1's finances, for her DS's anxiety, and for PA as she awaits the outcome of a job application and misses her DH and DD4;

... revivingshower, praying for her back pain to ease and thanking God for her family who've been supporting her during this tough time;

... RoomForALittleOne, for her DD3 to stay well and to sleep well too, so that Room can get enough rest;

... RunRunRuby, thanking God that she has come to our thread and praying that her faith may be strengthened;

... SESthebrave, for all that she has to juggle in her life, with work and DC;

... SunshinemMum, praying for her and her family as they look for a new spiritual home after leaving their previous church; may they find the place that is right for them, and may it welcome them with open arms;

... thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, for a more peaceful time now to recover from the hecticness that is Christmas, and for her academic work;

... weegiemum, giving thanks for her own better health, but praying for her stepmum and for Kat, who are both seriously unwell and for all in the family affected by their illnesses;

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors, and those we haven't seen for a while, including: Bluetinkerbell, cloutiedumpling, EasyCompadre, FairPhyllis, fluffieduckie, FriendOfDorothy, GoodbyeRubyTuesday, harbinger and her family, JakeBullet, jan and her DD, ktef, LollipopViolet, MaryBS, notquiteagrownup, PloddingDaily, Soozi, thehorridestmumintheworld, trish5000, youretoastmildred, and zulubump, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don’t post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God’s love.

May God bless us all in 2014.

just a quick cheerful post - DH felt baby kicking for the first time yesterday! yay!Smile

I didn't expect his reaction to be as if it was the first time ever he felt a baby kicking, so it was lovely, he was grinning and got all excited!
aaww!

St Anthony turning up trumps again!! Hope your headache goes away soon and that ds has stopped whining and is fast asleep now.

Tuo · 26/03/2014 23:20

A Franciscan Blessing

I heard this ages ago on the radio, but was reminded of it recently and wanted to share it with you.

May God bless us with discomfort at easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships, so that we may live deep within our hearts.

May God bless us with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that we may work for justice, freedom, and peace.

May God bless us with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, hunger, and war, so that we may reach out our hands to comfort them and turn their pain into joy.

And may God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we can make a difference in this world, so that we can do what others claim cannot be done, to bring justice and kindness to all our children and the poor.

Amen

Praying muser, of course I will pray with you for this little boy.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 27/03/2014 13:32

Dear friends please think of us tomorrow as we gather for my nephew's funeral. We are all still so shocked I think but I pray that it will be some comfort, especially to my sister and her two girls as well as all that loved him, to be with friends and family.

Always like your prayers Tuo x

CharlotteCollins · 27/03/2014 21:47

That's a fantastic prayer, Tuo.

Coming very late in reply to GingerCurl's post from earlier in the week - just to say that your experience at the marriage course sounds so, so familiar. :( Just that, really - can't offer any advice, as I couldn't find a way forward in my case. I might pray that your H stops being such an arse :o

Dutchoma · 27/03/2014 22:03

Charlotte...well...you will probably get away with it, but I wouldn't Grin

BlessedAssurance · 27/03/2014 22:11

Hello everyone. Due date today and i think i am in labour. Contractions every 15minutes so far. I just realised that i have no idea what to do, when to call the hospital. Just glad that this time it is happening natuarally..and it hurts..really painful..

BlessedAssurance · 27/03/2014 22:12

Please pray for me so i can go through this without acting like a maniac.

niminypiminy · 27/03/2014 22:14

Blessed praying for you that God will hold you through this experience. And don't worry labour turns the best of us into maniacs!

cloutiedumpling · 27/03/2014 22:36

Juggling and Blessed - praying

BlackeyedSusan · 27/03/2014 22:43

ooooo live labour thread...

just post in chat or aibu and you will have about 50 million posts telling you what to do.

I swore a lot and told h to get lost but in language that was more colourful...

ermm that is not helping is it.

I went ot the hospital and got sent home as the hospital scared the contractions away...

still not helping...

Tuo · 27/03/2014 23:23

[holds BA's hand down the ether]

Praying tonight especially for BlessedAssurance: may your labour go smoothly and your LO arrive in this strange exciting place we call the world with joy and love and hope for the future. May God bless and keep her/him and you.

Praying also for the little boy known to muser and for his family and all who love and support them, including the medical team looking after him.

And praying for Juggling , her sister, and the whole family, that God will be with them all tomorrow as they say goodbye to Juggling's nephew.

And remembering also all those who've lost loved ones recently (Oma, BES, Badvoc, PandaG, Faith): rest eternal grant them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

Finally, praying for Blue, for her interview to go well and for her DD3 to be OK while she's away.

A prayer from the 8th-century Gelasian sacramentary:

Almighty and everlasting God, the comfort of the sad, the strength of those who suffer; hear the prayers of your children who cry out of any trouble; and to every distressed soul grant mercy, relief and refreshment. Amen

Had a bit of a meltdown this morning at my lovely kiddies. They're larks and I'm an owl. They have a gro clock, a black out blind. But it makes no difference. I keep assuming they're old enough to play quietly if they wake early and let me sleep but I'm wrong. They either start fighting, or keep coming into me etc. I love them so much but sometimes I just want sleep. A proper full nights sleep and to sleep until 6.30. I'm usually woken by one or other in the night too. I even went to bed early last night. I'm so tired. But I shouldn't have got so cross They're only 5 & 6. My son has additional needs. He's never been a great sleeper.

I think it's the long term lack of sleep that's got me to this place. As you know I don't get weekends off, I never have lie ins, I've had no sleep in years. It's the prolonged lack of sleep that gets to me. I get cold sores and my poor body is always fighting them off right now as my immunity is low.

I'm moaning. I need to snap out of it. They're lovely kids. Please pray for sleep and peace for me and to see the positives?

Hopefully normal service will resume shortly. I think I have pmt....

JugglingFromHereToThere · 28/03/2014 07:36

Thanks all x
Please pray for a peaceful journey there and back too, and that I can find some trousers to wear in the next couple of hours, and for us all getting ready this morning Thanks

BlackeyedSusan · 28/03/2014 07:50

jan2014 · 28/03/2014 08:50

hi guys i have missed all of you lovely people. Oma i sent you a card i hope i still have the right address. i feel bad for not being on here but i just couldn't keep up, and i do think of you all

dd is doing great, i am worried that im slipping into depression... there has been some changes in the last while... i joined a new church and still don't know anyone, dh and i started going back to counselling in the last few weeks and he has started communicating, and the whole thing is really draining to be honest. he still doesn't take dd very often because of all his commitments - i don't know where id be without mum and dad. i am having some health problems too.

anyway, i will try to catch up on the thread here and there, but i would love to try and be part of this again, i need fellowship its so important.
