Welcome to our new prayer thread for 2014. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what’s going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of autism in churches, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes;

... Badvoc and her family, as they grieve for her dad; prayers too for her aunt who is seriously ill; and prayers for a good recovery from her gallstones operation;

... BananasForTed, praying for her mental health and for her difficult work situation, and also praying that she was able to go back to her church and that she found support there;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, we pray for her mum's health, and for both her DC to receive the support that they need at school;

... BlessedAssurance, when she feels challenged because of her faith at her place of work; also for her pregnancy and for her eye problems;

... BoxOfDelights, for her to find somewhere good to live and a job;

... bountyicecream, thanking God for her renewed happiness after leaving a very difficult and abusive relationship, and praying that she will continue to grow in happiness and strength in the future;

... CharlotteCollinsisinherownplace, giving thanks for her new home and new job;

... Don'tsteponthemomeraths, thanking God that an MRI has shown her brain to be normal, and for the continued progress of her niece, little Grace, born prematurely;

... DutchOma and Bob, for Bob's health to be as stable as possible and for him to receive good care in the hospice; also praying for him to see some glimpses of light in what is, admittedly, a very difficult situation, so that his outlook may be less 'catastrophic'; and praying for Oma that she may find rest and peace of mind and support at this time;

... Gingercurl, giving thanks for the successful completion of her thesis and praying for her viva to go well; also for Ginger’s MIL who has been diagnosed with cancer;

... HadALittleFaithBaby, for all bugs to leave to Faith household; also for her neighbour who has cancer and for his family;

... JugglingFromHereToThere, for a job which interests and fulfils her;

... Kaykat, giving thanks that she is now settled and happy in her new home with her DS, and praying for her DS to cope well with his new situation and not allow his dad to influence him in a negative way; also praying that she will find a welcoming church community in her new place;

... MadHairDay, thanking God for a Christmas spent at home with her family, and praying for continued health in 2014; praying too for health and love and friendship for MHD’s DD;

... NeverKnowinglyUnderstood, for her relationship with her DS and for support for them to understand his anger and frustration and find ways to avoid it if possible;

... niminypiminy, for happiness in her new home;

... octopusinastringbag, thinking of her as she feels drawn to explore faith in more depth;

... PandaG, for her mum's health;

... PositiveAttitude and her family; in particular, at this time, for DD3, praying for a happy end to her pregnancy with no complications; also praying for PA's parents’ health, for her DD1's finances, for her DS's anxiety, and for PA as she awaits the outcome of a job application and misses her DH and DD4;

... revivingshower, praying for her back pain to ease and thanking God for her family who've been supporting her during this tough time;

... RoomForALittleOne, for her DD3 to stay well and to sleep well too, so that Room can get enough rest;

... RunRunRuby, thanking God that she has come to our thread and praying that her faith may be strengthened;

... SESthebrave, for all that she has to juggle in her life, with work and DC;

... SunshinemMum, praying for her and her family as they look for a new spiritual home after leaving their previous church; may they find the place that is right for them, and may it welcome them with open arms;

... thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, for a more peaceful time now to recover from the hecticness that is Christmas, and for her academic work;

... weegiemum, giving thanks for her own better health, but praying for her stepmum and for Kat, who are both seriously unwell and for all in the family affected by their illnesses;

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors, and those we haven't seen for a while, including: Bluetinkerbell, cloutiedumpling, EasyCompadre, FairPhyllis, fluffieduckie, FriendOfDorothy, GoodbyeRubyTuesday, harbinger and her family, JakeBullet, jan and her DD, ktef, LollipopViolet, MaryBS, notquiteagrownup, PloddingDaily, Soozi, thehorridestmumintheworld, trish5000, youretoastmildred, and zulubump, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don’t post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God’s love.

May God bless us all in 2014.

Hi Jan!!!
Lovely to see you.

BES I hope he woke without too much hassle.

Dutchoma · 28/03/2014 09:34

So pleased to see you Jan. I'm looking forward to the card, it should be ok, as I haven't moved. Grin.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/03/2014 14:18

well we just about got to school on time so that is what counts. had a slight wobble as he wanted to wear dd's trainers... which she needs for sport tonight. go an hour sitting around the school waiting for her to finish.

I have aquired armbands (yay) I need to wrap presents. I could have done with a nap but got waylaid by listening to a friends problems. eek.

ZingSweetCoconut · 28/03/2014 14:59

Blessed

just seen your post yesterday - hope you and baby are ok and either s/he has arrived safely already or will do pretty soon!

how exciting! Smile

BlackeyedSusan · 28/03/2014 15:04

eek off to school to get the boy to hang around for an hour. it loks like it is about to thunder. correction, it is thundering... I hope they do sports inside.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/03/2014 18:10

oh my godness. it was a humdinger but we were safely sitting in our faraday cage before the worset of it was overhead.

ds ran off at the end of school but a child in dd's class helpfully told me he was in the junior playground. with thunder overhead. they have lost ds's homework book.

CharlotteCollins · 28/03/2014 19:45

Jan, how lovely to see you!

Mome - early mornings are a killer. The end is in sight, though - I reckon at about age 7, mine have developed the ability to survive for half an hour or more without waking me. 6.5yo DS has just this week gone downstairs and switched the TV on without forcing me out of bed to accompany him. (Think it'll be a while before he sleeps in his own bedroom, otoh.)

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 28/03/2014 20:41

Thanks Charlotte. I look forward to that. I reckon my DD would do that but it's my crazy gorgeous boy who can't. Working 20-25 hrs a week mixed with kids and my voluntary work makes for one tired Mum.

But it's the weekend. Woo hoo!

Tuo · 29/03/2014 00:10

Jan - it's lovely to see you. You are always a member of the community of pray-ers on this thread (see the OP) even if you are not around much, and we think of you lots. I pray for you tonight: for your mental and physical health, for your parents in thanks for all the support they give you, for your relationship with your H, for your lovely DD, and for your new church. May you find in all parts of your life the love, support and fellowship that you need.

I found this as part of the CofE's order of Compline for tonight:

Creator God,
may every breath we take be for your glory,
may every footstep show you as our way,
that, trusting in your presence in this world,
we may, beyond this life, still be with you
where you are alive and reign
for ever and ever.
Amen

Hello everyone. Dominic Elias finally showed up at 3pm yesterday after i had been in labour for 19hrs. I was trying for a VBAC but he did not come down and was not engaged so eventually had to be taken out by C Section. I want to thank God because i was so against being induced and not only did my labour start on the due date, i got a very painful but relaxed birth unlike my first. He is a dream and we connected right away. It's like he knows me and when I put him in his own little bed he screamed the whole place down. I took him and put him on my chest singing Jesus loves me yes I know and he went quiet. He is lying besides me and is a beautiful 4.1 kg big viking[Viking]. The staff commented on how calm and put together i was during the whole process. All i know is i managed because I had the support of all of you. I managed because i had lovely people behind me cheering me on and praying for me.

Thank you Mumsnet Christian Group Thanks

Bluetinkerbell · 29/03/2014 07:43

Welcome to the world little Dominic! :) what lovely news, enjoy the snuggles.

my interview went well, even though I didn't get the job. :) there is another plan ahead for us, as DH has been shortlisted for his dream job :)
I trust God will lead us where we need to go, even if that means insecurity for a while.
DH and both the girls had a great time, not too much trouble. She woke up around 3am inconsolable and woke up DD1 so they all went downstairs for milk and biscuits and then went back to sleep. By the time I got home on Friday I looked like I had a triple boobjob done Grin

Praying for all

Dutchoma · 29/03/2014 08:34

Thank you Lord for Dominic Elias and for all You have done for BA and her family. Thank you that the delivery went well, even though there were problems and that all is well.
And thank you that Blue's interview went well and that she is not too disappointed at not getting the job. I pray that her dh gets the job he so wants, but more than anything I pray that you will hold the whole family in Your hand of blessing.
And I pray for all on this thread in this Mothering Day weekend: for all who will find this weekend with all its commercial overtones very hard to cope with. Praying especially for Panda, but also for BES and Mome
Thank you Lord.

niminypiminy · 29/03/2014 08:44

Amen!

Kaykat · 29/03/2014 09:36

Congratulation Blessed and hubby and welcome to the world little viking Dominic.

Great to hear from you again Jan are you considering reconciling or is the counselling just to try to improve communication?

I feel homesick all the time and I don't want to any more. Brain says lovely rented home, DS very happy, good location, if I moved back home bad location, angry STBXH. Heart says I just want to go home.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/03/2014 10:33

Welcome Dominic Elias and congratulations Blessed! Thanks

BlackeyedSusan · 29/03/2014 10:41

I finally slept. got to bed earlier than I have done in ages. slept through with the help of the radio... I did wake shortly after one to hear a bit more of the series on obesity on world service... this is the first programme that I have not heard this week...

I woke about 9.30. I have got up to find them playing quietly... ds was wearing black school trousers, a backto front shepherds outfit, black tie, sitting in a pile of polystyrene snow and other clothes/toys detritus

I shall be finding polystyrene for months if the last time was anything to go by.

so lovely sleep... not so lovely awakening. I am wondering about going bananas and having a snow party given that it will not be any messier!

cloutiedumpling · 29/03/2014 11:19

Welcome to the world Baby Dominic! Great to hear you are both settling in well.

Lurking and praying

BlackeyedSusan · 29/03/2014 12:26

agghh. swim party. I am really nervous for dd. first time swimming since she was 1.

madhairday · 29/03/2014 14:25

Welcome baby Dominic and congratulations Blessed :) Thanks

Have prayed as I have read - so many situations, God knows all the ins and outs intimately and loves you all so very much.

Jan how wonderful to see you. Thanks

Feeling fragile here, chest infection still here (6th course of abs in a row), dd has an ear infection and ds has an acute case of tonsilitis - started with sore throat this am then his temp spiked and dh took him to the walk in which was much quicker than dd seeing the gp yesterday who said his tonsils were very inflamed so he is on a 10 day course of abs, dd is on a 5 day course. Poor dh I imagine he doesn't want to go near any of us Grin please pray for some health. feeling so very worn down. DH had been plannign to take us to the seaside in wales tomorrow for the day for a treat as I've been unable to get out but now can't with the dc so ill as well, they will be gutted.

still, there is so much worse i know.

madhairday · 29/03/2014 14:27

BES hope dd gets on ok and loves it :)

amberlight · 29/03/2014 17:16

Reading through, as I do, and praying as I go for each of you. For healing, peace, friendship and love aplenty.

If anyone's praying through likewise, here, we have DH's eye consultant on Monday to find out what's what after his eye operation. Hopefully final signoff.
DS is settling into a part time job at a school after losing his confidence really badly at Uni. We are relieved. But not sure if the school will be able to keep him on for long.
And I have my next breast cancer checkup on Tuesday. That'll be three years and three months after discovering it. And hoping it's still stayed away.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 29/03/2014 21:17

9.30? BES Never happens in my house. However with the clock change tonight I should get an extra lie in. 7.30 I reckon? Ha! We'll see though.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/03/2014 21:52

the consequence of that though is the living room looks freshly burgled and as though there has been a blizzard.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 29/03/2014 22:15

You must be a deep sleeper? In a 2 bed flat I'd be awake at the slightest sound. And actually my son is in my room as soon as there's any issue at all. So fat chance of any sleep once he's awake. So I'm looking forward to age 7 as Charlotte said, as my hope that things will improve.

Hope you feel refreshed for it though BES? It did sound like a broken nights sleep though. I'm off to sleep now myself. So night all.

Tuo · 29/03/2014 22:28

Praying tonight in particular for Blessed and her family as they welcome Dominic Elias to the world. Thanking God for his safe - if not simple - arrival and praying that he will have a happy, healthy, blessed life.

Praying too for MHD and family, for them to all feel much better soon, so that they can have a slightly delayed day out at the seaside which they can all enjoy.

Praying for amber too, for the coming week's medical appointments to prove reassuring and for her DS's job to help him build up his confidence and maybe even lead to something more permanent.

And praying for Kay in her difficult situation, that she may know happiness in her new home, and security in her new situation, despite the difficulties. You have come so far, Kay... you can do this!

Finally, praying, with Oma, for all those for whom tomorrow is difficult for whatever reason, including my DH and his sisters.

From the Compline of the Northumbria Community for tonight:

May God shield us;
may God fill us;
may God keep us;
may God watch us;
may God bring us this night
to the nearness of His love. Amen
