Welcome to our new prayer thread for 2014. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what’s going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of autism in churches, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes;

... Badvoc and her family, as they grieve for her dad; prayers too for her aunt who is seriously ill; and prayers for a good recovery from her gallstones operation;

... BananasForTed, praying for her mental health and for her difficult work situation, and also praying that she was able to go back to her church and that she found support there;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, we pray for her mum's health, and for both her DC to receive the support that they need at school;

... BlessedAssurance, when she feels challenged because of her faith at her place of work; also for her pregnancy and for her eye problems;

... BoxOfDelights, for her to find somewhere good to live and a job;

... bountyicecream, thanking God for her renewed happiness after leaving a very difficult and abusive relationship, and praying that she will continue to grow in happiness and strength in the future;

... CharlotteCollinsisinherownplace, giving thanks for her new home and new job;

... Don'tsteponthemomeraths, thanking God that an MRI has shown her brain to be normal, and for the continued progress of her niece, little Grace, born prematurely;

... DutchOma and Bob, for Bob's health to be as stable as possible and for him to receive good care in the hospice; also praying for him to see some glimpses of light in what is, admittedly, a very difficult situation, so that his outlook may be less 'catastrophic'; and praying for Oma that she may find rest and peace of mind and support at this time;

... Gingercurl, giving thanks for the successful completion of her thesis and praying for her viva to go well; also for Ginger’s MIL who has been diagnosed with cancer;

... HadALittleFaithBaby, for all bugs to leave to Faith household; also for her neighbour who has cancer and for his family;

... JugglingFromHereToThere, for a job which interests and fulfils her;

... Kaykat, giving thanks that she is now settled and happy in her new home with her DS, and praying for her DS to cope well with his new situation and not allow his dad to influence him in a negative way; also praying that she will find a welcoming church community in her new place;

... MadHairDay, thanking God for a Christmas spent at home with her family, and praying for continued health in 2014; praying too for health and love and friendship for MHD’s DD;

... NeverKnowinglyUnderstood, for her relationship with her DS and for support for them to understand his anger and frustration and find ways to avoid it if possible;

... niminypiminy, for happiness in her new home;

... octopusinastringbag, thinking of her as she feels drawn to explore faith in more depth;

... PandaG, for her mum's health;

... PositiveAttitude and her family; in particular, at this time, for DD3, praying for a happy end to her pregnancy with no complications; also praying for PA's parents’ health, for her DD1's finances, for her DS's anxiety, and for PA as she awaits the outcome of a job application and misses her DH and DD4;

... revivingshower, praying for her back pain to ease and thanking God for her family who've been supporting her during this tough time;

... RoomForALittleOne, for her DD3 to stay well and to sleep well too, so that Room can get enough rest;

... RunRunRuby, thanking God that she has come to our thread and praying that her faith may be strengthened;

... SESthebrave, for all that she has to juggle in her life, with work and DC;

... SunshinemMum, praying for her and her family as they look for a new spiritual home after leaving their previous church; may they find the place that is right for them, and may it welcome them with open arms;

... thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, for a more peaceful time now to recover from the hecticness that is Christmas, and for her academic work;

... weegiemum, giving thanks for her own better health, but praying for her stepmum and for Kat, who are both seriously unwell and for all in the family affected by their illnesses;

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors, and those we haven't seen for a while, including: Bluetinkerbell, cloutiedumpling, EasyCompadre, FairPhyllis, fluffieduckie, FriendOfDorothy, GoodbyeRubyTuesday, harbinger and her family, JakeBullet, jan and her DD, ktef, LollipopViolet, MaryBS, notquiteagrownup, PloddingDaily, Soozi, thehorridestmumintheworld, trish5000, youretoastmildred, and zulubump, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don’t post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God’s love.

May God bless us all in 2014.

here we go. if you listen very carefully you should hear a small nuclear explosion centered somewhere over the midlands when I tel ds he is not able to do the competition.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/03/2014 21:07

The head teacher is moving on to a new school. Hoping the new head has more understanding of ASD and gifted children.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/03/2014 21:23

opps forgot to add... yes pm me here mome.

how are you feeling GC? praying for a good nights sleep.

Badvoc · 24/03/2014 21:27

BES....I haven't heard anything yet! Hope you are ok? I hope the new HT is more understanding of the needs of children with asd (and their parents!) I have also had the cough of doom and it's still annoying me...not so chesty now though.
Thank you for the lovely prayer tuo x
BES...I am like you and am finding it hard to care about church ATM. I am supposed to be doing a reading on Sunday...:(
Poor ds2 is ill AGAIN - ear infection and conjunctivitis. Any tips for getting eye ointment onto a terrified 5 year old gratefully received!!
Ds2 will probably be off school for the rest of the week and it's my aunts funeral on Thursday...maybe dh will have to not go and look after ds? Would that bu? (Dh would be fine with that, thinking more of my cousins etc)

BlackeyedSusan · 24/03/2014 22:12

wrap him tightly in a towel. lay him on the floor. kneel over his chest pinning his arms to his side? ds was a teeth refuser and sometimes this was the only way. better than having to have a general anaesthetic to remove teeth. alternatively someone else wraps him in a towel and sits them on their knee, holding their arms with one arm and dc's head with the other as in the technique for the gp and temperature taking?

need someone who can follow through though. h would let him escape at the crucial moment.

bribery and corruption would be my first solution though.

the cough of doom yes. I am taking cough mixture otherwise I cough so much I go dizzy. not great if you happen to be driving.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 25/03/2014 00:09

Eye ointment? Eek. Drops is hard enough. Bribery and explaining I'd try, but yes I suspect I'd resort to sitting on them if needs be.

Tuo · 25/03/2014 00:59

Badvoc, my technique with eye stuff is to put it in the corner of the eye, rather than aiming for the centre, as it were. Get child to look in the other direction, then put a blob of ointment (or drip a drop of liquid) into or near the corner of the eye away from where the child is looking, ask them to close their eye, and then gently massage the lid to take the ointment into the centre of the eye. Repeat from other corner. Can be used with the towel method if need be. Good luck!

My prayer tonight is for Gingercurl. Know that the collective prayers of the MN prayer ladies go with you tomorrow in to your viva. We may not be able to provide you with the answers you need, but we'll be there in spirit to uphold you and to support you. I pray that you are able to rest tonight, Ginger, and that you feel on top of your material tomorrow, confident in your knowledge and in the significance of what you have found, and able to explain yourself convincingly. May God be with you every step of the way. I pray too for your relationship with your DH, which sounds very fraught at the moment. I pray that you are able to hold onto the love that first brought you together, to communicate effectively, and to find new ways to walk forwards together.

A prayer of Erasmus:

God of love, the true sun of the world, eternally risen and never going down; in your mercy shine into our hearts, that the night of sin and the mists of error being banished, we may, this day and all our life, walk without stumbling along the way which you have set before us. Amen

Badvoc · 25/03/2014 07:54

Thank you for the tips.
I have been taking linctus - which I never normally do - but when the cough of doom strikes it just won't stop :(
Hope I don't start at the funeral on thurs :(

madhairday · 25/03/2014 15:52

badvoc :( DD used to kick off hugely at ear drops, and we had to do the wrap in a blanket thing and chocolate buttons bribery. I feel for you....hope it all gets better soon.

Blessed that's lovely - what a lovely community you have around you.

Well feeling more poorly again today. never ending.

GingerCurl · 25/03/2014 20:28

Hi, I'm back. The viva wasn't a disaster but didn't go as well as I hoped. I got a referral which means that I have to quite a lot of rewriting to clarify things. On the other hand, they didn't actually reject or even question my findings, which I suppose is a good thing. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your prayers. Thanks Thanks Thanks I didn't panic and managed to stay calm throughout. Also, although many of the questions were tough, neither examiner was confrontational in their style(even the lady that tends to make me into a gibbering wreck !), which was such a relief. I felt I got a chance to think and speak and not be interrupted or rushed on. Praise God!

Dutchoma · 25/03/2014 20:37

I'm so glad that you feel you got a result of sorts, Ginger. No disaster, no gibbering wreck, calm and poise throughout. Well done.
When will you have to hand in the rewriting bit. Will you have time and space for it with everything else that is going on?

GingerCurl · 25/03/2014 20:58

Hello lovely *Oma. How are you? I have been thinking about and praying for you.
I am disappointed with the result and will probably feel quite low tomorrow when it has sunk in, but am focussing on the positives and the fact that I haven't really lost, yet. I'll get a letter detailing the changes that they want in about three weeks' time and have 12 months to implement them. The thing is that you only make the changes that they specifically ask for and no more or you can get yourself in a right mess. It will probably amount to two to three months' work.

niminypiminy · 25/03/2014 21:10

Just popping in to ask for some prayers. I'm feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, with too much to do and to little energy to do any of it, and disheartened and low. And there is a massive pile of washing up to do before I can crawl into bed Sad.

any spare prayers would be greatly appreciated.

Dutchoma · 25/03/2014 21:30

Keep looking at the positives Ginger. I am alright, glued to Radio 3 and my knitting. Getting ready for my stay in Yorkshire and then a few days in Holland, just after Easter.
Niminy I wish I was closer and could give you a hand with the washing up. It always goes three times as quickly when you do it with two people. Hope that you can get into your bed soon.

Tuo · 26/03/2014 01:27

Well done, Ginger... you are 90% of the way there now, and you're right - you will now get clear instructions as to what you need to do to complete that last 10%. Hang on in there, don't be too disappointed, and hold onto that feeling of calm!

MHD praying for your health to improve very soon, you have sounded very low recently, so I pray that God will pick you up and fill you with love and life and joy.

Likewise, niminy: I'm sorry that you are feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Praying for love, life and joy for you too. And lovely rest!

Finally, praying for all those with coughs (horrid... lots of sympathy) and for the DC who are not well, especially Badvoc's DS with his eye infection, as I know how horrid those can be.

Praying this, from Psalm 51: 'Create in us a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within us. Do not cast us from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation and grant us a willing spirit, to sustain us'.

BlackeyedSusan · 26/03/2014 09:53

I am a little better this morning. wondering if I am better enough to start tackling the three days of washing up....
hoping not to have a repeat of yesterday when I felt very nauseus at pick up time, struggled to drive and came in and lay on the floor with ds shouting at me for several minutes.

Dutchoma · 26/03/2014 10:00

Maybe just start with stacking the washing up into a manageable pile. I remember being taught to wash up at school (specialist household training school in Holland which does not exist any more, more's the pity).
You did the glassed first, the cups and saucers (mugs), the plates, the cutlery and the pans.

Everything rinsed first. I still do it like that.

GingerCurl · 26/03/2014 11:44

Haha, Oma that is exactly the way my mum taught us to do the dishes. DSis and I both get equally disturbed when at major family gatherings we are paired up to do washing up with "untrained" cousins and in-laws who insist on doing the dishes in the "wrong" order! Grin

Bluetinkerbell · 26/03/2014 13:17

Lurking and praying for everyone!

Could do with some prayers here too... big job interview tomorrow and Friday and having to leave DD3 with DH overnight for the first time... she's still a boobie monster overnight! scared of how it will go and looking forward to a full night's sleep at the same time!

BlackeyedSusan · 26/03/2014 13:31

I have managed quite a bit of washing up. and sorted through a pile of papers, and looked through the post and a bag of post. and still not found an important letter.

please pray I find this letter.

I have found a book that had mysteriously disappeared but not the library book that went missing and I had to pay for.

I am very stressed and can not sleep at night or catch up in the day. really worried about this appointment letter. I remember opening it in the hall.

I even managed to sweep the hall and recycle quite a few papers.

madhairday · 26/03/2014 13:33

Praying for you all. Thanks

BlackeyedSusan · 26/03/2014 14:04

letter found!!!!!!

Dutchoma · 26/03/2014 14:13

Thank you St Anthony. I'll pay him for you when I am in Holland! Now for the book?

BlackeyedSusan · 26/03/2014 17:46

book found!!!

now I have to get book and receipts all together in the library.

BlackeyedSusan · 26/03/2014 17:47
