Old thread here

Welcome to our Gratitudes for 2014! The lovely crescentmoon started last years, and we are running out of space. So, here is our 2014 thread-for little things that go well for us each day.

Any MNer can join in! From any faith, no faith, every day, once in a while, everyone is welcome!

I am grateful for
a New Year and new starts
all my grown up DC having a good time at parties and returning home safely
a warm bath and a glass of wine

Well, I shall try for the third time. I don't know what's going wrong this morning other than my general uselessness.

So glad your back, crescent. I was starting to worry about you - I forgot that you would still be on holiday. How wonderful that your wee ones are excited to be back at school, long may that continueSmile

gratitudes -
good weather is still here
DS2 is all set for going back to uni, all his paperwork is done
DS3 managed to safely negotiate another week at college (except for the night he missed the last bus home!)
BB started up again last night. We had 30 wee boys from 6-11 yeas old. I'm so relieved and v. happy about that. After last year's stramash, I was dreading having no boys at all.
food, water, safety and shelter
and - last but never least - sunny washingGrin

Hope everyone is well and that folks are just on holiday with their wee ones.

You wouldn't really, Annunziata. There are some challenging boys, there always are, but as long as you make clear what your expectations are from the get-go and have a consistent discipline structure, then it normally works out fine after a few weeks when they've all settled down. Having a good number makes it a bit easier, actually, because, noise aside, there's a lot more that you can do with them than if you only have a handful.

gratitudes -
very controversially, I am grateful that the yes vote has a lead in a poll. I actually feel sick at the thought of a No vote.
sunshine
sunny washing - it came of the line yesterday smelling all warm and bakedGrin
the last of my tomatoes and courgettes
food, water, safety and shelter
ceasefires around the world
prayer

Annunziata · 07/09/2014 12:39

I know, Annunziata. it's been going on so long and it's so close. Half the country will be broken hearted on the 19th. I don't see how things can really be the same, whatever the result.

Agreed, crescent, I think that there would be a huge party if there was a yes vote, but I also think that the other side will be really, really down. So many people are afraid of independence, but no-one is psychic, we can't know what will happen unless it happens.

gratitudes -
food, water, safety and shelter
sunshine
DS2 got safely back to uni
medical supplies - DD and DS4 are choked with the cold - not serious, I know, but they feel miserable

I know, crescent. I think that everyone should be quite proud, really. I know that there is a lot of talk about the aggression and bad feeling in the campaign, particularly in these latter stages, and there will always be a few idiots who take things far to far, but by and large, the whole thing has been carried off peacefully and without much incident. In many countries, as you say, there would be war and untold violence. We are so very lucky that we live in a mature, stable country, where democracy is well established now.

It just makes me sad that so many people (myself included, I fear) as going to be heartbroken next Friday. I hope and pray that we can continue in peace afterwards, whatever the result. Our church is having a service of recognition and reconciliation on the Sunday, asking for God's blessing on the decision and His help to accept the result, whatever it may be. I think that we will need His help a lot.

gratitudes -

Glad it's over, too, Annunziata. Am devastated, though. I was sitting at 6am this morning in tears. I just feel as if for a short time, we held our future in our hands and now we've given it away. However, we all have to get on with it now, and make the best of what we have together.

I think that we should be proud of ourselves. We live in a mature democracy and that it what won yesterday. There is no bloodshed or violence - how many countries could do what we have just done as peacefully?

gratitudes -

that the referendum is over
that it passed off peacefully
that God will continue to walk with us regardless
that we can all look to the future now and try to make the best of it together.

Annunziata · 20/09/2014 21:23

Ah you spoke too soon. Eejits in Glasgow making complete arses of themselves as usual :(

gratitudes
nice warm sheets and bedding
lights in these dark nights- it seems like winter already

OP posts:
stressedHEmum · 21/09/2014 08:06

I know, what absolute eejits. it had to be Glasgow, didn't it? I just don't understand some people. DS3 was getting some scary texts from his college friends who were in George Square and that sort of area until they sensibly went home to safety. Thankfully, though, that was the only trouble - the rest of us more normal people are just getting on with it.

gratitudes -
sunshine during the day (I hate dark mornings and nights)
lovely line dried washing
fluffy socks
food and water
warm cuddles from the childrenSmile

I need a little gratitude I think - feeling rootless and pointless at the moment.

I am grateful for my lovely family.
I am grateful for my job and the fact it helps me to help people.
I am grateful for food in the fridge and money in the bank.

Thanks Smile
