Well here you are then Smile I don't post often, but just to save Nickel a job...

Am feeling betterish. I had an incomplete mc @11wks just before xmas, ending up with me losing litres of blood, an ambulance ride, emergency surgery and two litres of blood transfusion.

I had a fortnight in bed not doing anything at all, and have been slooooooowly getting stronger and more myself since. I wasn't quite prepared for it to take so long, but having talked to nurses they've made me feel better about still feeling wobbly and tired (they say comforting things like 'after losing that much blood you won't feel properly normal for six months'. Which is comforting really, as I kind of feel I should be feeling normal by now).

I've resigned from work (did three mornings a week tutoring v difficult 14 year old) as I'm not up to it, and he can't cope with having a supply, so I felt it was better if I stopped altogether. They're struggling finding a 'me' replacement, though Confused, and terrifyingly they phoned to ask if I can come and do interviews next week. I'm not grown up enough to actually be an interviewer! Help! I can barely manage an interview myself!

Whoops. An essay.

DutchOma · 25/01/2012 20:35

Dear Marmite, I would witter in your place. You have a lot on your plate. (And not just cabbage). You are always free to witter here and in the other (prayer) place. Would the owner of the house be prepared to wait a while before selling?
I'm sure you will be absolutely fine at the interview and will be of great help to the person you is going to be 'you' to that difficult teenager.

Hi Niminimy. I'm mainly a lurker on this thread, but post from time to time. I've been lurking on the other thread and seen you there and agree with Panda re your and MHD's intelligent posts.

TotallyUnheardOf · 25/01/2012 22:46

Hello... Just popping in. Had a bit of a weird day... Just found out that someone from the place where I am working now (and not someone who copes well with difficult interpersonal situations...) is going to be on the interview panel for the other job I'm going for. Very very weird and complicated, and I haven't quite got my head around it yet. I think it'll be OK, but it just feels so very wrong. (Was MHD passing the Gin earlier on? Grin)

Welcome Niminy... Yes, I was lurking and agreeing with you on the 'women and gays' thread but am too much of a wuss to get stuck in.

Blue... so glad you got in touch with the Vocations Advisor. How exciting! I hope it goes swimmingly when you meet.

Marmite... I am so sorry for your loss. Please don't be too hard on yourself and give yourself time to recover. And, as Oma said, I hope you find someone really good who can help that lad.

No reply yet to my email about dd2 being baptised, but we've waited nearly 10 years, so it's not exactly urgent.

niminypiminy · 25/01/2012 22:54

Marmite, it sounds as if you are going through a really hard time. I think I'd be a gibbering wreck in your position, facing a move and all.

Totally that sounds a bit wrong to me, but I hope it turns out ok!

I'm procrastinating about writing my reflections on the discernment process so far. Have got as far as profound, frustrating, humbling, inspiring. But I think I should probably write more than four words.

Sounds like Gin all round to me.

thanksamillion · 26/01/2012 09:56

Hi all, a quick post and run, I've not abandoned you but I'm in the Uk for three weeks - yay! so I probably won't be around much. It's the first time I've been back for 2 years so very excited, but the DCs woke up at 5.30 this morning as they're still on Moldovan time so excitement slightly dampened by tiredness Grin

thejaffacakesareonme · 26/01/2012 11:29

Hi Everyone

I'm procrastinating too. House looks like a bombsite and there's so much that needs to be done before this baby arrives in 6 weeks. I've been getting really painful cramps though if I'm on my feet for too long so have decided to use it as an excuse to sit and watch the tennis.

nickelhasababy · 26/01/2012 12:21

yes, I'm here, don't worry!
I had a busy day with DD yesterday - couldn't really get her to settle, and kept trying to work, but she needed my attention.
The child's doing a very good job of keeping me from MN! I thought the whole point of having children was that you could justify spending all day here. not so, it seems they prevent you. Shock

I'm also working on the Parish magazine - thank you Mary for the articles, I'll use at least 2 of them. :)
I've actually had quite a few submissions this time round, which I'm really chuffed with, and even some paid adverts!
Just waiting for something from the Church Wardens about the team ministry

nickelhasababy · 26/01/2012 12:23

marmite - i'm sorry to hear that. I hope you're on the way to recovery now, and that you're getting all the support you need.

notevenamousie · 27/01/2012 06:34

Morning all,
Sorry I've not been chatting much. I love this time of the morning - lots to do but no rush, no disruptions, with the company of my 2 performing hamsters and getting caught up on a few things.

Firstly anyone in the North West fancy this - (Keith and Kristyn Getty and Stuart Townend concert in May at the Liverpool Phil) - I haven't booked yet, but planning to, and wondered about company!
I think I might just go for it with the New Wine Day - it does sound great - I guess stepping out and doing some different things is new to me but am going to go for it!
It's the end of week 3 of rehab for me and God is good, I was struggling but a bit stronger now. This keeping it in the day is hard, I want everything sorted, and I am not good at waiting on God. A work in progress I guess. I thought I was often confused, but actually I think it's back to often being frightened.

Sorry to witter - and love to all.

newlark · 27/01/2012 21:15

Just marking my place now I've found you.

notevenamousie - I've just spent an hour on you tube watching Keith and Krstyn Getty thanks to your post - I should be working (marking assignments) Grin. Wish I was close enough to go as I'm sure it will be a fantastic concert. I've seen Stuart Townend in concert and it was amazing.

nickelhasababy · 28/01/2012 10:58

Morning.

Bloody GK tomorrow - shine jesus shine. (drone drone dronedrone)
I told DH that he must go through the correct rhythm with the choir, and drill it into them - because they don't do it minim crochet quaver quaver, they do more of a minim dotted quaver dotted quaver thing - it's wrong wrong wrong and makes them sound (even more) like pub singers!
He couldn't even work out that that's what they were doing!
I swear sometimes he has no hearing - just because he's doing it right, he assumes they are and says he can't hear different.
Then he complains "i'm not a choirmaster" - sorry DH, you are a choirmaster, just because you don't want to be, doesn't mean you're not! Just embrace it and do the best of the job you're given!

madhairday · 28/01/2012 12:37

haha at SJS nickel - enjoy Grin

noteven - yay! Will be so good to meet you - how are you planning to get down there? The concert sounds fab - I love things like that - but not sure I can get up there on a weeknight evening - if I still lived in stoke I might have managed it Sad You should go though. Great news on the rehab, so glad you are feeling stronger.

Marmite - so sorry to hear of all you have been going through.

Sorry not been around past few days - had a small relapse and lungs have been a bit rubbish. Got scared yesterday it was all going south but seems bit better today. Resting up lots. dh is speaking at a conference so out all day and we are having a pyjama day and will get dominoes pizza later :)

lostmywellies · 28/01/2012 13:13

marmite - love the idea of boiling cabbage to put off prospective buyers! We are going to have to move in the summer, but we don't know where yet. Well, maybe we do (Canada) and I just don't want to face it because I wasn't expecting to live in the UK any time soon, so since we came back unexpectedly in October I've been making the most of it and not thinking about leaving again! Now we've settled a bit, bought stuff for the house, got dcs happy in school, it's hard to think about moving on.

nickelhasababy · 28/01/2012 15:02

oh mhd sorry to hear that :(

nickelhasababy · 28/01/2012 15:03

(obv not :( about pizza day Grin)

thejaffacakesareonme · 28/01/2012 15:03

Did Nickel mention that she's singing SJS tomorrow? (stifles a giggle)

I'm sure we could come up with a great list of things that would put off prospective house purchasers. How about persuading the next door neighbours to play really loud music during the viewing? Or cooking kippers under the grill for breakfast?

nickelhasababy · 28/01/2012 15:04

haha.
the junior choir has been warned that if they clap, they will have marks taken away from them (DH gave them that threat! Grin)

Bluetinkerbell · 28/01/2012 17:43

We're singing SJS as well tomorrow! as well as 'walk in the light' and 'at the name of Jesus' and 'I am the bread of life' Grin We're celebrating Candlemas slightly early Wink

marmiteandhoney · 28/01/2012 19:34

Blue - cor! Am jealous of your fabulous music for tomorrow! Nothing like a bit of 80s retro :o DH was writing the candlemas service for this week and he's put in At the name of Jesus. I made him use the 'modern' tune, too, so the organist will not be happy. But if we're not allowed even the excitement of Walk in the light, I reckoned I had to be allowed that. Don't get me wrong- I like choir-y music, but I do like other stuff too. I find a diet of choir-only makes me irritable and unappreciative.

Dh was covering services at a church where the priest and 1/2 the congregation had left for the ordinariate. They had the most brilliant mix of music. I particularly liked when we went from SJS (complete with dancing Carribean ladies) to Joy to Thee, Oh Queen of Heaven :o

TotallyUnheardOf · 28/01/2012 19:45

My dh was once very proud of having used the phrase 'more eclectic than ecclesiastic' in an essay (on the music in Pasolini's 'Gospel According to Matthew'), but that is both eclectic and ecclesiastic.

Nick... do they lose marks for swaying too?

Lost... Canada would be exciting; but the constant moving must be really trying.

MHD... get well soon - take care of yourself, eh?

Have taken up weirdy interview situation with HR, as it just seems so obviously wrong to me!

DutchOma · 28/01/2012 20:12

Nickel no clapping? You spoilsport. Seriously though, it is a bit of a shame not to, since now nobody will like it, not you, not the happy clappers. If you are to have SjS you might as well do it properly in the hope that some people will like it.

OP posts:
SESthebrave · 28/01/2012 20:49

TUO - I think you're right to raise it with HR. I've got a situation at work where I was interviewing for 2 different vacancies with 2 different employers and had the same candidate apply for both. I pulled out of interviewing as I didn't think it was right.

Nickel - I don't enjoy SJS just because it was overdone in it's day but I do agree with DO about doing it full on HC or not at all Grin

I do like a bit of "At the name of Jesus" though Grin
Maybe playing SJS would put off potential home buyers?!

MHD - hope it was only a temporary set back. Enjoy your pizza!

TotallyUnheardOf · 29/01/2012 11:54

Update Talked briefly to the relevant Canon (have forgotten again what his actual job title is... let's call him the Very Lovely Canon M..., for he is! Smile) today and he suggested to DD2 that she be baptised and confirmed at the same time. He didn't feel that 10 was too young for confirmation (especially given that she is asking herself to be baptised, so there is clearly a desire to affirm her faith), and it'll be nicer for her because there will be a group of others doing the course with her etc. She agreed that this was what she wanted, so it looks as if that's what we'll be doing. Hooray for VLCM and DD2! (I'm just worried now that the confirmation will be at Easter, because we're due to be back in the US for a couple of weeks then... but I'll cross that bridge when we come to it...)

We also had At The Name of Jesus today (but, given today's gospel I can see why we've all had it), but no SJS (we had King of Glory, King of Peace, and other things that I can't now remember...). Grin @ playing SJS to put off potential home-buyers.

Thanks for your comments re. interviewing SES. Yes, what I am struggling with is how none of the people directly concerned can see that it's inappropriate. If it were me, I'd immediately withdraw. Even if I were sure of my own ability to be unbiased, I'd be worried about the perception of bias. Oh well, we'll see what they say tomorrow.

SESthebrave · 29/01/2012 12:27

TUO - that's fantastic news re DD2 and VLCM Grin
We have adult confirmations at Easter but the children are all confirmed in June. Hope the dates work out ok for you.
Regarding the interview, exactly !! I knew I wouldn't show bias and in fact the candidate herself said that she was quite happy for me to interview for both but it just could have caused complications and wrong perceptions that it wasn't worth risking it!
