I know we've not officially finished the last one, but I wanted to get the link in before we ran out of room!

Everyone welcome - the aim of this thread is to generally chat about church life, or just gossip in general!
You don't have to be a regular church-goer, nor do you have to know what we're going on about!
It's not about debate, it's just about chatting
:)

We did that 'show me the way to shine for Jesus' from that children's society website last year, it's to 'Amarillo', it was brilliant and everyone joined in with gusto, will def use it again in a kind of slightly sad but fun way :)

We always did 'the orange of Christingle' song, anyone know that one, to the tune of the Holly and the Ivy.

Bluetinkerbell · 22/11/2011 14:27

Oh mhd we're doing that one as the final song! trying to look for sheet music for that one... as we only have a backing track for it, but live music would be nicer...

nickelbabe · 22/11/2011 14:30

(this is killing me, you know)
Shock

Bluetinkerbell · 22/11/2011 15:08

We used the backing track, it was good but dh decided to do it live for the crib and it was better, think we have the sheet music somewhere, will just have a look.

madhairday · 22/11/2011 15:27

Ah we only have the guitar tabs, can send that to you if you like?

nickelbabe · 22/11/2011 15:32

ah, if only I were going into labour - it would save me from the rubbish music! Shock

OP posts:
Bluetinkerbell · 22/11/2011 15:41

thanks mhd guitar tabs is a start Wink we actually had a fairly new member of the congregation who volunteered herself to play guitar Grin

DutchOma · 22/11/2011 15:56

I fled from last sunday's morning service even before it started because there was such a lot of noisey music randomlu being piped into the whole of the building.
Then went to Choral Evensong at St Matthews which is probably one of the highest in the country and they were doing some kind of special Benediction.
Talk about bells and smells, my throat was sore from the incense. Serve me right, do you think? But the music was wonderful even though it wasn't their proper choir.

nickelbabe · 22/11/2011 15:58

moisy random music? Confused
oh dear, that doesn't sound good!

still, I like the sound of the church you ended up in, I love bells and smells! Grin

Bluetinkerbell · 22/11/2011 16:03

see we had complaints last time that we were still practising when people came in before the service. so this time finished rehearsal on time, put on a nice Taizé cd, and someone turned the music down! DH wasn't very pleased as he had taken a lot of time to set up the PA system and to adjust all microphones and by turning main volume down it was probably all wrong.

nickel we've had smells, bells and drums on Sunday Wink

nickelbabe · 22/11/2011 16:03

moisy ?????

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 22/11/2011 16:05

drums, pah!

Noone's allowed to mess with our sound system now - it's been such a hassle that they got a proper sound engineer in to sort it, and it's got a huge label on saying "don't touch!"
We've had complaints about being ready on time too - it's really annoying.
It caused me to have a dream about it, where I stood up in the church and ran through all the (unpaid) time DH put into the choir and the music, and that it's insane that after all that, we're 1 minute late for being ready for the service and all we get is moaning!

OP posts:
DutchOma · 22/11/2011 16:24

It was very moisy. It wasn't even the band still practising, it was piped moozak which went through the whole of the building.

madhairday · 22/11/2011 16:58

Ugh at piped moisy muzak Grin Doesn't sound great, I'll admit. I can't be doing with smells and bells though, particularly as my chest can't tolerate incense!!

Blue can you fb me your email addy as I don't have it, will send the tabs over.

Ah yes and people fiddling with sound systems has given dh much stress over the years. Leave them alone Grin
