I know we've not officially finished the last one, but I wanted to get the link in before we ran out of room!

Everyone welcome - the aim of this thread is to generally chat about church life, or just gossip in general!
You don't have to be a regular church-goer, nor do you have to know what we're going on about!
It's not about debate, it's just about chatting
:)

Hi Jaffa - you are very nice unlike some of us meanies. Really I shouldn't mind mistakes as I'm used to them but I think the difference is if there is lots and it it ust obviously bad and out of time or rhythm etc, if there is a few that's fine and the good thing about a band is they get hidden :) I loved our christmas day service last year, lots of the children played in the service, dd was playing the flute, it was what you might call raw but lovely nonetheless. So I guess it depends on context too....

nickel I got bullied re faith too....just horrible. and it's happening to dd already :(

madhairday · 17/11/2011 13:00

Oh and jaffa - I'm feeling similar. Join in the big group hug we are having here at the minute

Hi all!

Tired, or more like exhausted. been referred by physiotherapist to a back to fitness class to work on my posture, as that is causing my back and hip pain and possibly neck and headaches as well.
so I'm feeling very achy now after this morning's session Blush think I will start with yoga on Monday so that I keep a bit fitter... it might help ttc as well Wink

Just finished our Celebration (all-age) Eucharist booklet for Sunday. We're doing a drama about the prodigal son throughout the service.
Our vicar was very impressed by what I've put together Grin really starting to like putting liturgy together... which is good as I'm about to have a meeting with the DDO to talk about possibilities in training for ordination :)

nickelbabe · 18/11/2011 11:36

aw, Blue - sorry you're still having trouble.
The yoga should help.

madhairday · 18/11/2011 17:34

Oh Blue, sorry your back is being a problem, hope the exercises help. Great about the drama and booklet though. When is your meeting with the DDO? So exciting! :)

Had a great day meeting with friends, we met at Ikea as that is exactly half way from each of us, so had lunch there and just chatted for a couple of hours then tried and failed to avoid buying stuff on the way out Grin

PandaG · 18/11/2011 22:51

praying for your back Blue

Sung 'Restore Oh LOrd' today - with gusto! I chose it as I was leading the Bible study this morning. Was fab! Grin

Bluetinkerbell · 18/11/2011 23:09

Thanks all! Today the pain is even worse, I didn't realise I had that many muscles around my belly Wink!

mhd haven't set a date yet to meet with DDO, need to check with our vicar if they've talked already and then contact him to meet up.

nickelbabe · 19/11/2011 11:36

oh dear. Keep using those belly muscles - that'll help your back no end :)

I skipped choir last night. I didn't mean to, but DH set off for Junior Choir at the normal time, and I lay on the settee to watch a bit of telly. Next thing I knew it was 5 past 8! Shock (choir starts at 1/4 to 8)
I thought, should I struggle getting there late (seeing as I was half asleep and still drowsy) or text and say I'm not going....
Thankfully, the one person that would have made the most fuss about me not being there wasn't there either (something to do with scouts i think)

I feel really tired today - i think i might have overdone this sleep thing.... Grin

DutchOma · 19/11/2011 12:45

Nobody should expect you at choir in your state of pregnancy. You're better off sleeping. And then sleeping some more. Once the baby is on the way out or here, you won't get much chance, so better take it now.

nickelbabe · 19/11/2011 13:02

oh, no, they don't expect me - in fact, they're constantly surprised when they see me Grin
It's just this one man - the one who wanted me to have the baby after the advent carol service - he's one of those people who constantly talk - never has a thought inside his head. he would have gone on and on and on about "oh, has she gone into labour? oh, where is she? oh, hope everything's okay, oh are you waiting for a phonecall to rush home at any moment? etc etc etc" - all out loud, and all interrupting practice.
apparently, no one who was there even mentioned it. :)

nickle with DC2 I was due to play the piano for our worship at college on my due date. I was really late with DC1 and hadn't had any signs of labour at all so on the rehersal the day before I was adamant that I would be there no problem.

Woke up at about 5am clearly in labour. Was trying to work out if I could still do it (service at 11am) but DH said we needed to go to the hospital .

Gave birth at about 2pm so he probably made the right call. But I'm still annoyed that I missed it Grin

SESthebrave · 19/11/2011 17:59

Thanks for all the congrats Grin

Nickel - I agree that you need to sleep whilst you can!

Bluetinkerbell - sorry you are in so much pain
Very exciting about potential meeting with DDO though :)

PandaG - Grin at choosing and singing Restore O Lord with gusto!

Bluetinkerbell · 21/11/2011 12:56

Our service about the Prodigal son went really well yesterday Grin very pleased!
Now preparing our Christingle service.
Quick question... real candles or glow candles? If I would do glow candles, I would put a box with real candles at the back so people can take one home to put in the christingle once the glow candle has faded?
I like the idea of glow candles as you wouldn't have to worry children will burn themselves and they can glow the whole time instead of blowing the candles out after a little while.

nickelbabe · 21/11/2011 13:00

Real candles, no question.

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 21/11/2011 13:01

DH said - you should have a procession round the church, all singing etc, then back into the pews and turn the lights out. oooooohhhhhh.

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 21/11/2011 13:03

and I was bored stiff yesterday - nothing to do after church so spent the afternoon doing nothing.
i'm only comfy when I'm lying down, so I had to snooze a bit too (while DH made the dinner, put the washing out etc)
I did have to clean out the chicken poo, but that didn't take long.

OP posts:
Bluetinkerbell · 21/11/2011 13:06

hehe nickel that's what DH said... he didn't like the idea of glow candles...

we didn't do anything yesterday either... we all had a snooze and watched the tellie all afternoon.

madhairday · 21/11/2011 13:13

Real candles so much nicer. We used glow sticks in our last church because of 'health and safety' issues Hmm and they were crapola. Nothing like candles and just didn't work. Never seen an accident with a candle altho dd nearly singed her hair once but we were near enough to stop it Grin

madhairday · 21/11/2011 13:15

Oh and nickel - get as much snoozing in as you can while you can, is my advice!! Sympathies about being uncomfortable - I just wanted mine out near the end because I just couldn't get comfortable at all esp with ds who seemed to enjoy using my bladder for football practise. started early that one.

So - chill out lady!

nickelbabe · 21/11/2011 13:52

anyway, it's important that children learn how to safely handle candles as soon as possible - otherwise we'll end up with a generation who can't, and that's where fires start.

I'm getting lots of snoozing in!
DH is here at the shop today, learning the ropes. He's got a week's holiday, so the idea is that he'll come into work with me most days (I'm sure he knows this!) and then when I feel tired, I'll go up for a nap and he'll take over the customers.
He's doing very well, so far.

OP posts:
Bluetinkerbell · 21/11/2011 14:16

oooh nickel just had a look at your website... I could quite happily spend hours in your shop! Grin I used to go to a bookshop similar to yours in Belgium and just wander around looking at the books! Pity you're so far, I would love to be your assistant Wink

nickelbabe · 21/11/2011 15:20

Grin thanks!
I would love an assistant - DH has decided he's bored, because there's not much to do except MN inbetween customers- so he's finally getting round to putting an elec socket in for me. (except he can't do much because there's no extension lead spare for the drill, and he can't connect anything until the shop shuts cos he's got to turn the power off! )

OP posts:
madhairday · 21/11/2011 16:36

He'll just have to start MNing then nickel Wink

I can ask him his opinion on GK, organs, floaty 'interpretative' dance and women bishops.

Will be fun!

nickelbabe · 21/11/2011 16:38

He agrees with women bishops - if they're capable of doing the job then it shouldn't be a barrier.
I think he'd probably vomit all over the keyboard if you as k him about interpretive dance! Shock
