lmao DO. Grin

We're going to see HP7 part 2 tonight :) It's our 14th anniversary. DH completely surprised me this morning, he put an anniversary card on my pillow, it felt rather heavy and I thought he'd put in chocs or something (could've been large Dairy Milk or similar as flat and thin) but opened it and it was a Kindle! Have been hankering after one for ages but so wasn't expecting it. So have spent the day downloading free books, and trying not to get too tempted by paid books, will need a budget methinks. Honestly, I was so excited, like a kid with a new toy. He's a sweetie really :)

Panda...looking forward to meeting you too! Kids are getting incredibly excited now (well so am I) :)

nickelbabe · 26/07/2011 17:48

ah, you're here.
I was wondering when you'd come and tell us this story.
I have ignored the fact that it's a K*le and am rading the word "e-reader" in its place. Grin

fab pressie though.

did you see my comment on your feed about checking its viability for a hymn book?

and Happy Anniversary

DutchOma · 26/07/2011 17:59

Happy Anniversary MHD.

PandaG · 26/07/2011 18:09

yes Happy Anniversary MHD Smile

I like the HP books, I think there is plenty to discuss in them. We are just rewatching the later films to decide if they are suitable fo rthe DC - they watched 5 the other night, I'm doubting we will allow the later ones yet.

Regarding robes, they are just so not part of the way I worship, but I appreciate they are important for some people. Even the vicars at our church rarely wear a dog collar, usually in chinos and an open-necked shirt. I do sometimes wear jeans and t-shirt myself, but ofetn make a bit of an effort, perhaps as a remembrance of the 'Sunday best' of my childhood, but more likely it is one day of the week when I am unlikely to get covered in playdough or glue so can wear something slightly smarter!

MaryBS · 26/07/2011 19:54

YAY on the kindle :). Had to LOL at the service last night, when I had to say "kindle in them the fire of your love". Couldn't help thinking of my kindle! :o

thanksamillion · 26/07/2011 20:55

Happy anniversary MHD! And yay on the kindle. DH has one and I've been thinking about pinching it as I read much more than he does - or at least a lot more novels. He reads Romanian language textbooks and theology Hmm

Our anniversary is on Saturday . It'll be 11 years this year! Most people here assume we've been married for 7 years as DD1 is 6 and it's 'normal' to have your first child as soon after marriage as possible!

Out of interest how old were your DCs when they first read HP? I'm trying to remember the first one and how difficult/scary it would be for DD1. I think it's probably still beyond her at the moment although we could read it at bedtime. We're currently reading the Secret Garden but I bought an unabridged version and it goes on and on!

MaryBS · 26/07/2011 22:47

DD is 11 and has been reading them for about 6 months. DS is 9 and has just started to get into them.

Happy anniversary for Saturday, TAM :)

nickelbabe · 27/07/2011 12:44

our anniversary is in 11 days - on the 7th (1 year, so not a long haul! Grin )

I don't think it's so unusual to be married 5 years before having a baby - my own parents waited that long for my big sis. :)

new thread in 16 posts - does anyoen want to think of a good name?

I was thinking "Graham, Gloria and Gossip", but it got vetoed last time, so I don't mind someone else choosing one. :)

MadHairMoody · 27/07/2011 13:45

I like that nickel :)

lol at the Kindle for hymns - yes could try it, dh has already suggested he can preach his sermons on it, told him hands off, it's mine Grin

Starting to pack for new wine while simultaneously sorting the house for the move. It's ermm....chaotic.

MaryBS · 27/07/2011 15:04

How about "Choirstalls and other places where angels fear to tread"?

(its the subtitle of a very funny book I have "hearts to heaven and tempers raise")

nickelbabe · 27/07/2011 15:06
Grin

i like that one.

MadHairMoody · 29/07/2011 18:03

A quick goodbye for now, off to NW early tomorrow, yay. All packed I think.

dh and ds have been down to the new house today to get some flooring delivered, say it's looking fab (been decorated) ds is treating us to a slideshow of very blurry photos of it on his DS Grin

nickelbabe · 30/07/2011 12:44

oooh, an exciting week/end (?) for you then. Grin

glad the house is going well - that's one thing you don't have to worry about :)

nickelbabe · 30/07/2011 12:47

I'm steaming ahead on our benefice calendar.
I've completed 9 pages, and then I've got to get permissions for putting the photos in. technically, I don't have to - cos of the copyright law, but it's always better to get permissions, especially from parents. (it's a mine field!)
I just hope not too many people say "no" because I've not got that many spare pictures to use! Shock

I've still got to get photos of certain bits of each church to fit in backgrounds and stuff, and I have hardly any pictures of Winter (for January!)
might have to stage a couple - like candles against pictures of epiphany anthems etc. and I haven't got any pictures of St Mary's in the snow, but loads and loads of st michael's!

newlark · 04/08/2011 17:19

Does no-one want to use the last 10 posts? Grin. Perhaps everyone is on holiday. Church is very quiet at the mo with people away and no toddler group/bible study etc.

nickelbabe · 05/08/2011 14:41

it's weird isn't it!
Our church has been busy, and it's "business as usual" during August, but I know lots of people have now gone on holiday.

I'm reluctant to start the new thread, though...

Helloooooooooooo!

Thought I'd come home to a sparkling new thread?

Come on girls!

So, had an awesome week at new wine. Had big time encounters with God. Was amazing, and I feel so uplifted and fired up for the new adventure now, if a little scared and stressed by the week ahead.

Met PandaG and she was absolutely lovely as I knew she would be :) You meet some people who you know you'd get on with straight away and that's you Panda, would love to talk more, good old fb and mn. You inspired me actually to get back on some of the more 'challenging' mn threads, so pray for me Wink

Having a pottering day sorting and washing, tomorrow though we will have our final farewell service. It feels weird actually because I feel I have already said goodbye, and going to New Wine somehow helped me move on, so going back feels wrong, and I know I will melt down once again. But will be good.

nickelbabe · 06/08/2011 11:50

We all seem to be avoiding the thread!
maybe it's because noone dare start the new one?
maybe it's because we've all become boring? Wink

I'm glad you had a lovely time. :)

It's always hard leaving old places, but you have so much to look forward to in the new place!

DH pulled out a Vicar's Annual Report from when Francis Turner left our church. It was only 16 years ago, but reading it felt lovely - I never knew him, but DH and a lot of the congregation were very fond of him, and DH was very chuffed to have found the report.

Maybe you and your DH could write one of those?
Basically highlighted all the lovely things about the parish, all the things he hoped it would achieve, and thanking everyone for the 20 years he'd spent there.
