I've just printed off our order of service for our new priest's licensing. 200 copies! Took ages, what with all the formatting I had to do! Its now all folded, just needs stapling.

DutchOma · 18/07/2011 17:43

Well done.

MadHairMoody · 18/07/2011 20:10

Well done Mary, want to do ours now? Grin

MaryBS · 18/07/2011 20:38

You can have one I prepared earlier...

MadHairMoody · 19/07/2011 10:24
Grin

Right where is the sun? Beginning to think New wine will be a washout at this rate.
DS came back from Beavers last night and cried himself to sleep :( He was so sad about leaving. It's affecting him more than I had thought it would. He is a sensitive wee soul. Poor love. He also set me off in tears! Get it together mhd!

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 19/07/2011 10:53

:( poor DS.
Is he going upto cubs in september then?
he'll have fun there too!

MadHairMoody · 19/07/2011 19:10

I've been playing on powerdirector again. This is a homemade project as dh wrote this one, obv needs some tweaking and more vocals and backing etc but I like the song and would be interested in what you think?

MaryBS · 20/07/2011 09:09

The song is lovely and has very powerful words. A singer/songwriter to add to your DH's many talents :)

The voice is a bit overpowered by the guitar though (sorry), so its a strain at times to hear him. Also, I am light sensitive, and the rain on water images hurt my eyes :(

gingercurl · 20/07/2011 09:52

Sorry, can I interrupt in for a moment? I have a question I've been wondering about for a while and just want your input if that's OK?
For some time now, I have noticed when I go to a service that there are not always lit candles at the front of the church. I've seen this in both the C of E and in baptist churches and I find it really strange. Even more strange is when there are candles there on the altar (C of E), but not lit. It's almost as if someone has forgotten to light them. Where I come from (Sweden) you always light candles for a service irrespective of denomination (lutheran, baptist, pentecostal, methodist, mission covenant, etc) and you'd never have candles on an altar/table in the front and not light them.
I'm just wondering if it is a high/low church/denominational thing or if it is just another example of the Swedish (Scandinavian?) love of candles. We light them at any occasion we get Wink .
I like the video adn the song, MHD. Agree about the guitar being a bit overpowering at times, especially at the beginning. I really liked the sun on the water Smile but can understand that it may cause problems for some people Sad .

MadHairMoody · 20/07/2011 10:36

Yes we haven't got the vocals/guitar balance right, dh has bought some fiddly software and is playing with it all but it takes some time, would really like to record it with some more instrumentals and backing vocals etc. Sorry about the light on the water Mary! Good feedback :) He's written several songs now and we've used a few congregationally and they work really well. proud of him!

wrt candles ginger, I'd not really thought of it, I think the ones on our altar are always lit in services at least, I am guessing that in high churches more note is taken as such but I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be used as much as possible in any context, I love candles personally and am always using them myself. Not really giving you a great answer there though as to why!!

DutchOma · 20/07/2011 10:36

In our (baptist) church we only have candles in Advent and at Christmas. At other times there are no candles, lit or unlit. Don't know about any other churches.

MaryBS · 20/07/2011 11:26

Not all places use candles. If the candles are on the altar and aren't lit, its usually because someone has forgotten - its happened in our church Blush

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 20/07/2011 13:41

in our church (c of e and quite traditional), we have candles on the altar, and candles that the servers carry to the altar.
these are lit for every communion service, and choral evensong - i'm not sure if they're lit for every service, because I don't go to any other services.

We also have candles on the choir stalls which are only lit for evensong.

A lot of churches will have candles on the altar all the time, regardless of whether they will be used at the service - that's more a matter of not having to keep moving candles around than anything else.

Our sister church has a movable altar, and only has a candle lit for communion servies - they don't have servers in the same way we do, so only have one altar candle (free standing, so it is moved into place every tiem they need it - all of their furniture is movable)

gingercurl · 20/07/2011 13:43

Thanks for your replies Smile . Maybe Swedes are a bit more high church in that respect even when we're low church if that makes any sense. When I was at university I used to work as a caretaker in the cathedral parish in Stockholm. The candles on the altar were always lit whenever the church was open, irrespective of whether it was the cathedral or one of the other churches in the parish.

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 20/07/2011 13:49

It would be lovely to have the candles lit whenever the church is open - I suppose we don't because it would cost too much.

We do have votive candles for when the church is open for visitors - there is always one lit to encourage people to light their own, and then they are kept lit until the church is closed. they're just tealights, though, so a bit cheaper to keep going.

gingercurl · 20/07/2011 13:51

Or maybe it's just that we are more stuck in the mud traditional than other people.

MaryBS · 20/07/2011 16:09

I'm really touched! After our Wed lunch service today (which I have taken, most weeks, during the interregnum), they presented me with a very generous book token to say thank you Blush.

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 20/07/2011 16:38

ah, Mary, that's lovely Grin

don't be embarrassed! you've worked really hard to fill in gaps (i understand - we're having the same problems!)
:)

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 20/07/2011 16:43

I've been spending most of today compiling our benefice calendar - we paid for it in june, but have been having problems getting enough pictures to fill it!
I'm messing around on photoshop so that we can have backgrounds as wellas the pictures.
In theory, the company we've chosen can put up to 4 photos on one page, and arrange them with their software, but I like to mess around first and put them in an order I like.

Have to talk with the other guy helping me out - hes taken loads more photos and we just have to get together to put them all in.

then, when we've done all that, we've got to get permission forms from everyone in the photos, so that we can use them! otherwise we'll have to replace pictures here andthere.

MadHairMoody · 20/07/2011 19:13

That is lovely Mary, and you deserve it! :)

Nickel hope you get the pictures together, I'm a photoshop messer too, what do you reckon to the theory that powerdirector messers are generally also photoshop messers and like making websites and publicity in publisher et al? It's a trend, I feel.

Talking of which, had nothing better to do today feeling ill so made another one, this time a new Tim Hughes song. I made this as a kind of goodbye and keep going to my seekers girls so feel rather emotional about it.

(sorry for bombarding you all with my little vids!)

MaryBS · 21/07/2011 09:46

:)

Can I please ask you ladies to vote on for OC Support?. You'll need to register in order to vote, but it won't commit you to anything.

It would fund the helpline for 18 months if they were to win. I had OC during both of my pregnancies, and the helpline was a lifeline!

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 21/07/2011 10:20

mhd - you're probably right, you know! Grin
It's nice to fiddle around with stuff - i'm generally rubbish at arty things (can't draw to save my life!), but all these computer-programme messy things are great to do stuff I would otherwise find beyond my limit!

I'll have a listen to that video in a minute (customers, you know....)

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 21/07/2011 10:23

I think i've voted - I clicked on the link, and I registered, then it said that i was supporting OC Support, but not that i'd voted... Confused

MaryBS · 21/07/2011 10:32

Hmm... vote count hasn't gone up... (not that I'm obsessively watching! :o ). Try voting again? It won't let you if you've already voted...

NearlyHeadlessnickelbabe · 21/07/2011 10:36

ah, that's better.
It must have been the delay in the website registering my log-in.
I've voted now (it came up with the list and tick boxes)
:)
