Here we are!

Roll up and sign in!

Oldies welcome, newbies welcome, anyone welcome!

It's basically a "what happened in church/spiritual life/anything else you want to chat about that's vaguely related (or not) to churchy stuff.

OP posts:

well, I like to take Paul literally (not literally take Paul, that would be a whole other thread Shock), so I'm dressing in my white robes Grin

which, also reminds me of Revelations 7:12-17
"12Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.
13And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?
14And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
15Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
16They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.
17For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."

of which there is an amazing anthem by Stainer - I call it The Choir Anthem, because we have to wash our surplices before Christmas and Easter services - so we have come out of great tribulation (yes, practising singing is very hard!),and have washed our robes and made them white Grin

That's lovely nickel about the white robes and v symbolic. Love love love that revelation passage. So exciting somehow.

I do stick to what I said though that if we really took it literally we'd be in robes the entire time because we've all been cleansed and set free. So in a way we are spiritually in robes the whole time. Will that do? ;)

Can't quite read those scanned in pages but looks a good bible study book, is it a monthly one you can buy? I'm looking for a new one at the minute. I use Living Light which is just the bible verses, it is an ancient copy but it still speaks to me each day, or rather God does through it Grin

MaryBS · 22/06/2011 12:39

You could have "Give thanks with a grateful heart" MHD, as nonchurchgoers will know the tune. Hymns to non-religious tunes, I think, are a good way to go.

Blush, not sure why it posted twice!

madhairday · 22/06/2011 13:33

I would do Mary but whenever we sing that I have the urge to break into 'Go West' by the Pet Shop Boys and strut around with air eighties synth Grin

Think the licensing service will be mainly churchgoers tbh - will be more of a commissioning into the post rather than welcome as there is nothing to welcome to as such, trying to get it straight in my mind.

nickelbabe · 22/06/2011 13:34

mhd - it's a quaterly thing.
argh, don't why you can't read it! Blush
(it must be photobucket doesn't take it at the same magnification)

It is Living Light, but they put the bible verse in, then take a week to discuss it.
you can get it on subscription - I think the more copies you get, the cheaper it is. (our benefice subscribes and then we each pay for our copy at £3.00 each quarter)
here's their website

nickelbabe · 22/06/2011 13:36

or you could do Water of Life (that's to the tune of Rupert the Bear) Grin

I love that hymn (it's a children's one)

madhairday · 22/06/2011 13:36

Can just read it if I squint but my head is already thudding so don't want to try to hard iyswim. will have a look at the website ta

madhairday · 22/06/2011 13:38

? don't know that one

Think we'll be sticking to storming hymns and up to date worship anthems really :) Thinking Be Thou My Vision, Before the Throne of Christ Above, In Christ Alone, with stuff like Praise is Rising, How great is our God, God of this city etc.

madhairday · 22/06/2011 13:41

Oooh thanks nickel have given details for a free copy, will see how I get on with it :)

madhairday · 23/06/2011 09:22

Oooh that brings back some memories

Great organist!

Not for me though Grin

Morning everyone. Have my seekers ladies over in a while, praying for some harmony this morning....

nickelbabe · 23/06/2011 10:24

"not for me" as in on the organ, or "not for me" as in the song?

madhairday · 23/06/2011 13:02

The song Grin

MaryBS · 23/06/2011 13:26

Our choir does a rather good "water of life" harmony, which sometimes gets used at baptisms.

nickelbabe · 23/06/2011 13:29

gah, mhd - no taste Wink

Mary -i'd love to hear that. :)
our choir sounds awful singing it.
but that's mainly because I'm northern, and when they sing "spilling from the baacket as it caames" instead of "spilling from the bucket as it comes" it upsets me.
Blush

DutchOma · 23/06/2011 14:16

The awter of life comes out of a bucket? A bouquet?

DutchOma · 23/06/2011 14:27

water,

nickelbabe · 23/06/2011 14:48

no, it's the busy worker digging in the desert, digging with a spade that flashes in the sun (or saan if you're southern....). Soon there will be water rising from the well-shaft, spilling from the bucket as it comes.

thejaffacakesareonme · 23/06/2011 18:32

I like your choice of songs MHD. In fact, I spent yesterday afternoon humming Praise is rising after reading your post..

thanksamillion · 23/06/2011 22:06

Ha, we need a new well dug as ours is drying out so we're only getting a trickle of water now - so that song resonates!

I love your song choices too MHD. I'd quite like to come along - it all sounds very exciting Smile

nickelbabe · 24/06/2011 10:13

I'd love to go along, too.
but you're proably too far.
I've been to inductions loads of times, but never one like this.
:)

madhairday · 25/06/2011 14:39

Aww would love you all to come! Not sure yet how we're doing it as it's limited seating I think but will put details on FB nearer the time no doubt. Where are you again nickel?

House has completed! Yay!
