Oldies welcome, newbies welcome, anyone welcome!

It's basically a "what happened in church/spiritual life/anything else you want to chat about that's vaguely related (or not) to churchy stuff.

[tut]
but i bet if i said Stuart Townend or GK, you'd all know immediately Wink

nickelbabe · 30/04/2011 17:25

anyway, DutchOma - jsut asked DH if the God Liveth still is the same one, and he said that BWV641 is a chorale prelude when in the hour of utmost need.
so I told him you'd said about it being the chorale part of it, and he's looked through his music, and said "can't see any part of God Liveth Still here. It's a short organ prelude for use in times of trouble"

I can only assume from that that the one we do at church is a different one.
:( (he would know if it was the same one, because he's got a photographic memory when it coems to music.)
sorry.

Yep Panda we get a house with the job, we have luckily had some say this time as they had to buy it as it's a brand new Fresh Expressions Pioneer post. Understand totally about the meetings downstairs thing - was one of my stipulations too, and luckily there is room in our new house so we don't need to 'banish' the dc every time there is a meeting. Hope you find something quickly - the right one will be out there :)

DutchOma · 30/04/2011 18:01

Sorry Nickel, I got the BWV number wrong; it is 461. It is listed here as Geistliches Lied, Gott lebet noch and it comes with a Choralsatz BWV320.

The two first lines are in German
Gott lebet noch, Seele, was verzagst du noch and two more verses.

I would so love to have a singable copy.

Changing the subject slightly, had to laugh at this:

Anyone know what 25.8069758 is?

Hello again all! Sorry not been around for a while - very busy Easter and then work and then preparing for PILs visit which is this Wednesday for 6 days. Oh and SIL coming for 3 days too in the middle of it all. (It's DS's 2nd birthday :) )

Rutter - thanks ladies for the reminder of how much I enjoy his music. I must dig out my CD later!

PandaG - prayers for you and your hopeful house move. Also that everything goes smoothly for you MHD.

Mary - that did make me Grin

Easter was particularly special for me this year as I was Godmother to a friend who was being baptised, confirmed and receiving first Holy Communion all at the Easter Vigil. It was a gorgeous service and so many people commented afterwards that they hadn't noticed it was nearly 3hrs long! (We had 6 altogether from our RCIA group receiving sacraments!)

I'm hoping to arrange a house mass whilst PILs are over. We moved to our current house 2.5yrs ago and haven't had it blessed yet so thought it would be an ideal opportunity whilst PILs are staying as none of my family are RC.

Anyway, best go and get breakfast ready so we can head off to church. Hope you all have lovely Sundays!

MaryBS · 01/05/2011 08:42

HAPPY BIRTHDAY nickel! :)

And wb SES :)

madhairday · 01/05/2011 14:20

Hello SES - sounds like a wonderful service :)

Happy Birthday Nickel! Hope you're having a great day [csmile]

Mary....all OK?

Feel about the same today - chest still annoying. Church too cold this morning which didn't help. We had a baptsim and church was packed. Shame it's not usually! One of the baptism party sang a song and she had an absolutely amazing voice, talking seriously professional quality, could have listened for hours. I asked her if she wanted to come and sing regularly at church [cwink] but turns out she already does - at her 7th day adventist church!! Not fair, all the good ones taken. dd was sitting in awe then told her she should go on X Factor (she should, too.) Love hearing real talent Envy

PositiveAttitude · 02/05/2011 16:53

Sorry I missed your birthday Nickel, hope you had a good day.

MHD hope you are feeling better today.

A question for you lot...... Do you know of any good retreat places for a person to go on their own for a few days? The one I have heard most about is Lee Abbey, but I didn't want to travel so far if I can help it. I live on the Isle of Wight, so down south, please.

nickelbabe · 03/05/2011 10:32

that's a relief, DutchOma - I was worried about that, and didn't want to sound like I was going "nooo, you're wrong wrong wrong!" Grin

I'll text DH and get him to check that in his Orgelbuch. (won't be til ltonight, though)

nickelbabe · 03/05/2011 10:40

thanks for all the birthday wishes!
we went out for dinner at lunch time, which was lovely - we went to a pub called The Aviator on Sheppey, and they had a live Swing Band playing in the restaurant (loud, but very good). the food was nice, and we had a lovely time.
then we had a relaxing rest of the day, but DH spoilt it a bit by forcing me into a hormone-exaggerated tantrum (it was his fault, he got annoyed and grouchy, and wouldn't snap out of it)
I'm trying to ignore that part of the day..... Hmm

SES, hope you had a lovely birthday for your DS too Grin
your Easter vigil service sounds lovely (although, I would notice if it were 3 horus long! Grin )

mhd sorry your chest is still bad :( (but don't tell anyone)
our church was just the right temperature!

madhairday · 03/05/2011 12:00

Glad you had a good birthday nickel :) Hope dh has stopped being grouchy. I remember times when pg I thought the world was ending and having huge big 2 year old tantrums at dh, tears and screams and flinging myself on the floor and all Grin

PA Ashburnham Place is lovely - in East Sussex, nr Hastings, I worked there for a year so am biased (also where i met dh). It has a wonderful prayer centre, so peaceful and lovely surroundings, lake to walk round etc, and you can stay there alone or with a group - would recommend! Here you go Ashburnham

nickelbabe · 03/05/2011 12:13

yep, that sounds like mine yesterday! Grin
He stopped being grouchy and made it up by being very huggy and kissy.

thanksamillion · 03/05/2011 12:18

Hello all
and a belated happy birthday to you nickel.

I was going to say Ashburnham but MHD got there first. I've only been once on a church weekend away but it was lovely.

newlark · 03/05/2011 13:08

Ooh - I think my church are going to Ashburnham Place for a weekend in the autumn. Hoping to go if I can persuade dh that he'd love to look after the children for the weekend Hmm

hotcrossSES · 03/05/2011 13:32

Hello all! I've had a "productive" weekend with a BFP yesterday so I'm joining Nickel in the upduffed club Grin
I'm a bit apprehensive though as I've had 3 BFPs in my time but lost the first 2 through mmc. Prayers for a sticky bean would be much appreciated!

Ashburnham - I've never been but heard great things

Nickel - sounds like you had a great birthday. Grouchy hormones, oh yes....all comes flooding back.... Glad your DH made it up.
DS's birthday wkend is next weekend and PILs arrive tomorrow!

MHD - hope your chest is behaving itself and you're doing ok?

Hello everyone else :)

nickelbabe · 03/05/2011 13:39

PositiveAttitude · 03/05/2011 18:24

Congrat SES, but the "good shagging" comment, MHD, on a Christian thread! Shock Grin

Thanks for the suggestion about the retreat. I'm off to have a look.
